I wrote a story about me as a cross dresser for my Creative Writing class. I gave the character a different name which was a good thing since I ended up reading the paper in front of the entire class. One girl in the class says she is basically horrified by my story. I'll admit that it isn't for the tame of heart and the porn and sex toy references probably didn't help. I think the story is too long for here. (several pages) Just wondered what your thoughts about the girl's reaction were. I didn't think it was that big of a deal and nether did the instructor. In fact everyone says it is a good story including the girl that complained about it.

Porn and sex toy references? Good heavens, what kind of "Creative Writing" class is this? :heehee:

I know I've read a few things in my day that kind of squicked me, even though they were well written. The one girl may just have less of a tolerance for the subject matter than other people in the class. Different tastes, is all.

Why was the girl horrified? What did she actually say about the story? We can't really react to the girl's reaction until we know what she said and what you wrote. You need to re-write this thread and give us more information.

Everyone has a sense of what is acceptable. If she was not comfortable with the details either you went to far or she is overly sensitive. Personally, I would have written it above the details of the toys and tried to explain the condition. What motivates you and what attracts you to feel the way you do.

Assuming you went into detail about one aspect of the story I can see some shock setting in.
For a normal college essay sex toys and deviant behavior do not get covered very much.
Originality would have earned you a good mark. It would not have necessarily been a good story.
I know where erotic stories and other devious stories have been taken from the web and made into student films and productions.
They have been successful because, "Sex Sells." :)

That she could picture the character in her mind. To her this was disturbing.

Although I warned the entire class that it may be offensive and to leave if they thought they may get offended. She acted like she was emotionally traumatized in some way. I and the instructor were like it isn't that bad. Maybe she's never seen porn or heard about heard about cross dressing or sex toys. Opps, sorry lady all of it exists. LOL

Hi Kisscoupe! Fancy uploading it in the Writer's Society area? We could have a read and give you more informed feedback! I am also very keen for our 'writers' to express themselves and share!

I don't want to get into trouble with my story. I know there are curse words in it. Which if I read correctly aren't allowed on here. I could have missed something. I was apprehensive about even joining. There seem to be a ton of rules most of which I still need to read. So, I'm trying to play it "safe". Hopefully this post won't get me banned. I know there needs to be rules, but I don't have the time or energy to read through it all. I probably shouldn't have joined and may cancel my membership if I'm not banned first because I messed up on some rule some where that I didn't read.

I took a creative writing class a few years ago thing can get pretty raunchy, even from the professor teaching it some of the excerpts from her book were bad. All in all it a good place to come out with out coming out.

Not to go too far off topic, my Freshman English Lit instructor (a 2 semester class) had a thing for necrophilia. We read 3 books on the subject in 8 months. Still gives me the creeps till this day. I would have loved a nice cross dressing story. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Seems like the story was accepted, even if one individual had issues. Write what you know about.

Well I've never cross dressed in public, but the story was about what if I did so to speak.

Adult situations and profanity in a story should not be an issue, as long as they are integral to the character and the story. Holden in Catcher used the F-word incessantly, but it worked for that character.
