What an awesome experience! My friends refer to me as "her" and "girl" now and it definitely feels great to hear it! I am ready to start down the path of doing my normal life tasks as myself, but I have a couple more years of being deployed before I can really start.
I guess we go through live denying who we really are for so long, that when we get to do trivial things as "us", it feels heavenly. I'm happy for you! :)

Sounds good to me Hon. Did you notice that things sometimes tend to be somewhat anti-climactic once we accept who we are?:)

How wonderful for you! It is a big step in getting where you want to go. Hang in there and it will happen.

What a good first step on your journey. Now you've taken that one, the next one will seem just marginally easier and before you know it, you will be well under way.

Hi Chelsea,
I read this thread and felt both happy for you and sad for no particular reason. I then went on to read your journal and discovered that you told your wife about your feelings on November 1st. I also read about the struggle that you are having in your relationship and I was wondering about the timeliness of essentially outing yourself to others long before you might have had an opportunity go through some process that work through with your spouse. It creates enormous pressures on your spouse because you have indicated that she has no say in this matter. Not even a consideration of what it might mean to her that you allow her no space to reconcile and gain some measure of acceptance.
The crisis, the real crisis is ahead of you, but it seems that whatever the outcome is it is a foregone conclusion that you will transition no matter how she feels. In going out to the podiatrist and other places in your community you have closed the door on going back at least for your spouse.
Sorry to rain on your parade and the good feelings it has brought you, but I have been at these crossroads .....

Chelsea,
What a sweet story. Remembering even the smallest things that bring us joy is one of the keys to happiness. Life is a journey. If we keep our eyes solely on the destination, we miss out on some of the beautiful flowers we may find along the way. Glad to see you're not just reaching toward a goal, but enjoying those flowers on the way.
