I am curious about some of the "nick-names" and short forms of female names that people are using? For example, "Catherine" might be called "Cat"; "Deirdre" might be called "Didi"; "Cassandra" might be called "Cass" or "Sandy", and so on.

(Please do not get into how you choose your female name; there are other threads for that. This is about name variations or what you actually get called instead of your formal female name.)

Lady Catherine

I prefer Catherine, but I get called Cathy, Cate, or Cat. If they have to shorten it I guess I would go with Cat.

Kate Simmons

Kate is my nickname. Katherine Megan Simmons is my full femme name at this time.:)

Jana

My name's already short... but some people have found a way to shorten it further, from Jana to Jan. I prefer Jana, though.

I didn't have a 'girl' name until I came here and it seemed it was expected; I just took the male name I wanted, and used the female version. Then applied a suitable nickname for the 14 year old girl that I, unfortunately, feel like I was supposed to be.

Kaz

I did it the other way. I chose Kaz as a nick-name first - it seemed to fit and began with a K which was convenient. I then decided my more formal name should be Karen. No idea why... never known many Karens... So I am Karen... aka Kaz. It has felt right for quite a few years now.

I am curious about some of the "nick-names" and short forms of female names that people are using...

Friends sometime call me "Liese" instead of Annaliese, if that counts as a nickname. IDK actually...

Paulette

I have one girlfriend that either can't remember my name or just likes Paula better than Paulette.

I have many friends that know me as Stephanie and Scott and some found easier to always just say Steph, and some will address me as Stephanie or Steph and remember Scott if I am in male mode

Jeannie
12-07-2012, 12:47 AM
As you can see I use Jeannie. My email address is Jeannie Smith and it was chosen because it no relationship to my real name what so ever. Not much you can do with Jeannie but Jean or Nie unless someone has any suggestions.

Eryn

Mine doesn't shorten, except as "E." in texting. :)

Beverley Sims

Beverley does get called Bev. A natural shortening of the name.
My wife calls me that a lot irrespective of how I am dressed.

I'm Kath for short here, but usually go by Katharine.

Princess Chantal
12-07-2012, 02:42 AM
I use the short form (Chantal) of what I initially chose (Chantal Leah). Some people that I socialize with locally have used Channy, Chan, Chantilly Lace and Princess

My "formal" name would be Roberta Erica, but I have been called Bobbi (Bobby) since I was a small kid. It just stuck so, why not use it.

linda allen

"Linda" is my name here because that's what my mother planned on naming me if I had been a girl instead of a boy. My wife doesn't know about that name and she won't because there was a Linda in her past who she did not like.

I would like to have my wife call me by a female name similar to my real "boy" name and I've hinted a few times but so far she hasn't taken the hint. She calls me by my boy name.

Tash or Tasha here.

They are logical derivatives of each other, no mystery here.

JD here...I've been called that for 40 years. When I transitioned I continued to be called JD. Down in the south, its not uncommon to call a girl by her initials as well as a boy. I think that helped in the transition as people didn't have to call me anything different. When I transitioned, I did go from the male side of the initials to the fem side (Jennifer Diane) but I can't even remember my wife ever calling me anything but JD.

And yes, if I wasn't called JD most people called my Jenny or Jenn...Jenn I like, Jenny I detest...

I go by Cass to alot of former and current friends in the cyber community.
Some have preferred to call me Cassie as well, but i kinda like Cass the most.

I like the ability of my chosen name to sound either formal and elegant (Cassandra) or girly and young (Cassie) or maybe even a little bit butch (Cass).

I spose i should get around to fixin up a nice little siggy for my name someday.

Nicole Brown

Even though I really prefer Nicole, quite a few friends call me Niki.

Jocelyn Quivers
12-07-2012, 07:12 PM
My wife will sometimes address me as JQuiv, Miss Quivers, or more colorful names which I really should not post on a family friendly forum such as this.:o

Catrina
12-07-2012, 07:54 PM
Catrina, the only girl named I've ever had. Cat is the obvious short version, which I don't mind.

PretzelGirl

I just started out with the short form. Never felt like a Susan. Now my youngest likes to call me a nickname that starts with a H and ends with an O, but she says it lovingly. :D

I don't think I can come up with anything shorter than Jill

You could make it "Jil".

A couple of people have called me "Anna". I didn't break off relations with them, though.

While I prefer Kathryn, I am Kat to some close friends and don't mind that at all!! Better than the drab name!

Jan for short or sometimes been called "Janny".

My daughter wondered why her e-mails to me weren't getting through until she found out that my name on the E was joe, not jo... Well, I couldn't tell her jo was a correct nicker-name for me, she was right the the first time too. Yes, no big deal, I'm Jo for Jodie , simple of course. All who call me JO(E) and I respond, just do not know who they really are talking to...

Angie G
