View Full Version : Fantasize as a CD Celebrity (for a Good Cause)?

Do any CDs fantasize being a celebrity or being on stage as a CD? I mean besides me? For me that would be a way to crossdress in public without actually coming out, because it's long been acceptable to perform as a CD, as long as one doesn't admit to being one. In fact, I did crossdress in several plays I was in during my grade school years. A bunch of other boys did too, though they were all in another group. In my group, I was the only crossdresser, yet no one seemed to suspect that I really liked crossdressing, I guess because I didn't act very girly, like some other boys did. At that time crossdressing on stage was considered funny and I was known somewhat for liking to be funny (but more as intellectual), but my humor was usually dry and subtle. Anyway, I sometimes fantasize about being a CD on stage again. Any birds of a feather here?

So how about we put on a variety show where we can CD in public?

I'm open to any advice or ideas you all may have. Like:
1. What are some funny themes or lines for a CD act or CD emcee?
2. How do you muster the courage to do anything so "ridiculous"?
3. How do you persuade clothing stores etc to lend you nice clothes and a makeup artist for your performance?
4. How do you persuade corporations and non-profits to give you space and maybe funds or other support for your weekly variety show?
5. Where can you get an accurate applause meter cheap - Oh, and also a cheap voice changer?

Last chance to share your urge for celebrity as a CD.

Yep, been there and done that a long time ago in Biloxi. I was onstage several times singing as Stevie Nicks. Made a lot of donations for aids babies :) Had a great time, met some wonderful people and will be doing it again after a long hiatus.

I would venture to say you would need to get a good agent for all of that.:)

I've done my versions of Dolly, Cher, and Marilyn. Too old for that now, I have a hard time doing a convincing impersonation of ME!

I perform frequently already. I don't do drag though, I perform as Lorileah. My idea instead of copying a person is to be YOU. Why be someone else? If you want to perform (even is a drag show where you will lipsync) do it. Around here there are hundreds of karaoke shows and several are at accepting bars. Get up, do your stuff, own it. Start strong, finish strong, no one remembers the middle anyway. You can use it as an "out" if for some reason you decide you are not comfortable being dressed in public. Just say "I did it as Drag...it was a hoot".

BTW, I sang at the veteran's club last week for the Commander's birthday, doing Marilyn Monroe's "Happy Birthday" in my own voice a capella. I wasn't made up as Marilyn, I just sang the song. It was a hit and I spent the next 15 minutes getting my picture taken with others.

Hi Lela, Thanks for sharing the link to this thread. Perhaps a CD fashion show might work as a fund raiser. You would have to find a very accepting venue and a safe place, this may be easier said than done. A weekly show would be a bit much. I also was in a grade school play, I played one of Cinderella's ugly sisters, a part I could probably still handle. I have fantasized about singing at a Karaoke bar and crying while doing it. If the urge to entertain strikes you make a video it's fun. Check out Jessica Who she makes very funny ones and might inspire you. I'll fill out your survey now...Hugs Jaymee

Oops. I deleted the survey form last night, when it appeared that there would be no replies to this thread. Sorry, Jaimee. You can send me a private message, if you want to answer my questions there.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and the sharing.

Probably a lot Lela but here are a few of my suggestions.

1. Image wise a couple of straight? CD's, with a couple of men in dresses.
This takes the audience attention away from the straight CD's who can set up any gag they like.
Get a couple of men out of the audience to dance the hula or imitate strip tease. props can help.
2. Easy you have to be outgoing.

3. Promote their clothing by saying even men look good in their fashions.

4. Now you are getting harder with the options.

5. Just mime a few songs and don't do tasteless jokes. Get a couple of prompters sitting in the audience.
They just clap and cheer on cue when the audience turns flat... And it does.
