View Full Version : Weight loss vs fat redistribution

First, let me apologize if this isn't the place for the following question, and should be moved to its appropriate location.
I read a question posed by a member about exercising and fat distribution that got me thinking. For those of you who have been on hormones for awhile and undergoing your transition, did you try to lose weight before, during after starting hormones/SRS? I read somewhere that females really start developing breasts at around 18-21% body fat to ensure that there is enough for redistribution.
For those of you who have waited till starting HRT to drop some weight, was it more difficult while on hormones?
In my mind, I am semi convinced (based on what I read) that developing breasts while on HRT will be easier if my body fat percentage is higher. Is there any logic or sense in this?
As always, I appreciate your feedback and help.

I lost a good deal of weight before starting HRT. I wanted to lose a little more but I was happy with my weight. Since starting hormones in May I have gained about 15 pounds. I have stayed a size 8 jeans so most of the gain has been in "good" places like my butt and uper thighs/hips. But if I gain any more I am afraid I will have to go up a size in the waist some also. It does seem to be Much harder to lose weight on HRT and if you are not vigilant you may find it easy to gain weight on hormones so in my opinion it is a good idea to lose all you can before starting.

Oh that does make sense. I wasn't aware that the hormones could cause weight gain. Well, there goes my excuse to be lazy after work haha. Good thing I have some new running gear on the way!
Thank you for your feedback :)

HRT destroyed my metabolism and I gained 35 pounds. Most of it is in my butt and thighs... NOT my boobs. And I started at age 26. The older you are, the less of a chance there is of HRT making significant changes.
If you want boobs, get a boob job.

Of course, because going to the areas we REALLY want it go would be too easy :P. I was hoping to avoid a boob job but as you say, I'll end up having to get one if I want boobs. I am currently 26, but by time I get around to getting on HRT, I'll be halfway to 29 :/

Bree..eeee, you should not get a boob job until you have actually been on hormones for a significant period of time. I am 58, 26 month hormones still growing.... so there :tongueout

I noticed that after being on M2F HRT for well over a year I have gained about 10 pounds. The good news is the weigh gain has gone to my breasts, thighs, and hips instead of going to my abdomen. For almost all my adult life I have had an "Alfred Hitchcock" profile, but now I don't have that problem anymore.
[Added later] I now wear 40 B bras, and I will go onto C cup size.

I guess I may be one of the lucky ones. Coming up on 2 years on hrt. Still the same weight I started at (145). Working on a good b cup. And I will be 60 next year.

I'm over 2 years on HRT and still have super tiny boobs. No growth the past year what-so-ever. If I get the money... I'm doing it. But I have other priorities right now. I want to live my life while I can. If I get a boob job, it'll be because I can afford it and I'd be able to afford a reduction in however friggin many years it takes for my pathetic chesticles take to grow if they get THAT big... which they won't.

Every time I get to the I have got to get a BA stage I say to myself just wait a little longer. Mine are actual C but with my frame they should be E. So they look very small.
