Hey girls. I've been on here off and on for years now, mostly just showing pictures of me dressing up as a female(pics are in my other threads. Its never gone beyond that before, but I've finally made the decision to see a gender therapist to try and get on female hormone therapy. I've always felt very female and I'm just so tired of not being myself, and I think this is the right decision. I shudder to think what will happen with family and friends and work but, I have to be me, and that is a female.

I just wanted to let you all know and hopefully I can see somebody soon! Wish me luck, thanks girls :)

Congrats on taking a step closer to being you. I wish you luck and beyond that I wish you happiness.

I've been seeing a gender therapist for a couple months now. It is quite a journey.

What is it like Anna? Does it really help? How long does it take to get hormones? And how did you find one?

It is like sharing feelings. I found out you need to tell them what you want and set goals for them to really help you. Most I hear about go by the standards of care and is 6 months for HRT recommendations but new standard revision may be changing that time frame. I found my therapist by looking up sponsors of local pride festival then researching them and scheduled a meeting (free) to ask questions to see if I wanted to go further. Biggest thing I am learning is be prepared to put in the work and do your homework in order to really meet your goals. The therapist has the easy part really. Make them work for you, you are the one hiring them.

Oh wow 6 months really? I didnt realize there was a time limit exactly. What do you talk about at every session then? I feel like youd run out of things to talk about! I just want to be a female finally lol!

I suggest looking up the WPATH Standards of Care. Many health care providers refer to these standards when assisting you.

As for what to talk about, if it was only so simple. Lol. For me I am working to figure out what I really want and feel about all this first so I had a bit more work to do before deciding on any major transition steps. I suspect mostly you would be discussing things about dealing with change and adjusting as you move forward. I found myself talking about dealing with loss, changes, aging, career, family etc provide many topics to fill the time. I use it more about overall life health than for gender topics. At the end of the day life is really what it is about anyways. Hope some of this makes sense and helps.

Honestly, I think it's a good choice to begin working with a professional. The real you did come through in your pictures... evidence of something more than a hobby.

You should do just fine. Your pictures are convincingly female, and even attractive, BTW.

Your therapist will probably help you through rough spots that might be stressing you, in gender and other areas of life. She may have a list of doctors who can prescribe, otherwise, you will need to search for an endo on your own.

Good for you! You are on the path to learning more about yourself and your needs, wants, and desires.

Congratulations on this step Christina. It is comforting to know that the courage does exist to get you to the point of accepting and desiring to really know. Just be you.
