Thanks to the inspiring posts here lately, I decided it was time to take a chance. I held my breath and forced myself out to the van. I drove to a safe spot and put my fake b00bs and wig on (couldn't risk anyone in the neighborhood seeing me). Then I drove around a while. Went through the Starbucks drive-through. I was sooooo nervous! On my drive home, I stopped at a local abandoned park and actually got out of the van! I went for a short walk, enjoying the freedom and fresh air. Then I drove home, taking the wig and falsies off before I got back into the neighborhood.

I want to make sure that I always remember that feeling of freedom, remember that I had the courage to go out dressed. So I took pics! I'm gonna share two here.

Yay for me!!!

Congrats! I have only been out about 5-6 times in public, but I have been bolder each time. My first time was just a drive around town. Then, a TG meetup at a friendly salon. Then, a TG friendly restaurant followed by a gay bar, where everyone was pretty welcoming. Last time, I even went into Walgreens afterwards to buy something-anything, in fact, just to do it. The clerk said thank you, sweetie, and that made it all worth it!

Way to go Nyssa. Girl, you now own that courage and it will never leave you. You have taken a step you wanted to, and that is what is important, so build on it and believe you can do what you want.

Wonderful, Nyssa! I've had a few small trips out the front door, but you make me want to go get dressed, grab my purse, and do it again! :)

May this be the first of many ventures for you!

I did what you did some years ago.
I had the same feelings and similar experiences to you.
Enjoy the ride and savour the moment.
There is nothing like the FIRST time.
You only do that once.

Thank you for the kind words and support, everyone! Y'all are exactly right: I'm already looking forward to my next time going out! Probably to Starbucks again. (grin) And then to the local gender identity center, I think. Less risky, but still out and about.

I think.........there is nothing so fulfilling as to go out in public as a woman. For me, with each passing day, I get bolder and become more of a woman. In my early days, just wearing a bra and panties (under my "guy" things) was a thrill. Today, I have no problem with going out fully dressed as a women. I happen to live in a part of the country that is pretty liberal to start with. I still wish that I could go to work with a skirt on. Several of my female employees know me for what I am and fully accept me. Now that gay and lesbian marriages are becoming more common, maybe, someday, I can be the woman I really am.
