Why nobody posts photographs dressed in beautiful S.Belle or Civil War dresses?

Could you imagine how much closet space you would need to accomodate those fashions. Although I have a walkin closet I dont believe I would be able to accomodate them.

I would think that for most of the ladies here dressing is a hidden activity. A hoop skirt is hard to hide. And I also think that most ladies here dress to pass. But I'm also sure that most would love to try one. Dear Raili you should post your own pix. Get the ball rolling.

I would love to try one on at least once before I die, but the cost will probably not allow it to happen. Some day for Halloween maybe.

I have a princess style hoop and petticoat wedding dress.
It takes a LOT of closet space, hard to get through doors, too much floorspace taken up in a small room and I ride home in the back of a van when I give it an outing.

Regarding Carrie's reference tro "GWTW"...... do any of you remember the skit by Carol Burnett and Co, wherein she emerges down the staircase to Harvey Corman.... and is wearing drapes, with a drapery rod over her shoulders.... and she sez, "Oh, this old thing.... I saw it in the window and couldn't resist it......."?????

Karen you really do crack me up!

Hi Raili and welcome to CD. I love the style of dresses you talk about. They are incredibly pretty, but as has all ready been eluded to, they take up a lot of space. I have some prom dresses that are of a similar style and I have problems with storage. If you have some pics please feel free to share!

I get kidded once in awhile about liking the styles of the 1960's, let alone the 1860's. I think the dresses are great for Reenactors and period parties. They are not very practical for ordinary daily wear.

Raili, if that's your thing why don't you post some pictures? I think one reason most people don't get those types of dresses is where would you buy them?

Karen, I have to keep telling myself not to read your posts. I just had some minor surgery and nearly tore my stitches when I read your reply to Raili. Lol

and frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

(and the wool of the era is itchy and icky.)

But, as someone else suggested, we'd love to see some pics of you and the dresses. Who knows, you might start a trend. Or a movement. If it's frilly enough, we'll find it sooner or later. ;-)

Best,

Rhonda

(oh, and for those who didn't get the first line, go watch "Gone With the Wind.")

S.Belle dresses are great to wear to costume parties or on Halloween and I wore one to a Halloween party last year and it was great.

I'm hoping to go a couple hundred years earlier than that. With a little luck, I'll be in Renaissance gowns this summer.
