I went to a wig shop. I was very nervous. I told the very nice lady in the shop that I felt uncomfortable being there. She asked me why, and proceeded to help me. When I saw one I liked (which is the one I always wear), she asked me if I wanted to try it on. I took a leap, and told her yes. She escorted me to a private room, and fitted me with the wig. She then took it, styled it to my liking, and made sure I was a happy customer before I left.
The next time I need a wig, guess where I'm going?

I too was a little nervous going into a wig shop, so I went in drab, with a dress on underneath my drab clothes. I told the saleslady that I wanted a wig for myself, what prices I could afford, and she asked what color and who I wanted to look like. I told her I needed one with the same color as my own hair. Slightly pulling up the collar of my dress out, I asked her if the wig would go with the dress. She said no problem and proceeded to show me wigs in my budget...

Angie -- it might help to call ahead to make sure you'll be comfortable. When I went to a wig shop, I called first and asked "Are males looking for feminine wigs comfortable in your shop?" They'll tell you right away. I went en femme.
Tell the sales person what your looking for -- length, casual or dressy style. She or he will can be very helpful in selecting a color to match your complexion and a style to match the shape of your face. They want you to be happy with your purchase and want your repeat business.
Enjoy! Have fun. And remember to breathe! :)

Shop around a bit. The same wig can be priced from $250-600 depending on the wig shop. I became good friends with a girl who owns a wig shop around here. She told me a lot about pricing. She even let me know what some of her prices were. One thing we never did figure out how a wig that she buys for her shop at $200 can sell at an Internet store for $75.
She had opened her wig shop because she found wig buying very frustrating when she was undergoing chemotherapy. She was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 25. She wanted to be more helpful to other women rather than just take their money. She knew where they were mentally and emotionally since she also was undergoing treatment. She was also very cool with TG. Unfortunately, her cancer came back and she wasn't able to survive it. Her mother continues to operate her shop in her memory.
Warm regards,
Christina Nicole
