At my last therapy session, my therapist told me of new law here in Oregon concerning Transgender Healthcare.

I'll provide the link to the website and you can read it for yourselves.

I'd like to hear your take on it and if you think it'll really work the way it was intended.
If it works, it seems like it could be a huge step forward.

Depending on the actual text of the law, it should be helpful for many who are TG.

The downside is that it would appear that the new law requires insurers to take on more risk (from a calims perspective) than they formerly did. That means that rates will increase by an amount comensurate with their perceived increase in risk. Contrary to popular belief, it ain't the insurance companies who are getting rich off of healthcare.

I wondered about the same thing. On the BasicRights website they give three examples (City of Portland, Multnomah county & City of San Francisco) of removal of exclusions in their insurance plans. For the CoP, they estimated an increase of 0.8% and CoSF has had no increase since they enacted it in 2001.

Seems promising.
