View Full Version : The Strangest Person in the World

Hi, Guys and Girls!

I'm a very strange person. I'm not ashamed to admit it. In fact, I've long suspected that I'm the strangest person in the world (and that despite the fierce competition I've got on this forum. What could be stranger than being trans, right?) By way of proof I'd like to offer the dream I had last night.

I know where this dream came from. A couple of days ago I watched the old musical, "Guys and Dolls" with Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine. If I'd known it was 2 1/2 hours long, I probably wouldn't have got into it. As it turned out I was thoroughly bored and was tempted to turn off it at several points. No surprise: I've never been into musicals.

So why was I watching it? Just a bit of nostalgia. When my sister and I were in high school, she had the female lead in the school production of the thing, which I enjoyed immensely. So I thought I'd have a look at the professional version of it.

My mistake. I think the only reason I stuck with it was that I was waiting for the song, "Luck Be a Lady Tonight", which comes near the end--and I was disappointed with that as well. I don't think Marlon Brando did it as well as good old Bobby what's-his-name back in the old days.

But it did inspire my dream. I saw a New York street in the 50's, guys all over the place escorting their dolls up the street, all of them dressed to the nines. This was Vivian Blaine's number. She was walking up the middle of the street, singing her heart out.

I can't remember anything of her song except the last line of every stanza when she'd suddenly whirl about, point her finger at some guy and sing, "Would you... put on a dress?" And sometimes the guy would blush and admit that he would and suddenly, presto! you saw him all dolled up just like the doll he was escorting.

Now--am I the strangest person in the world?

Best wishes, Annabelle

No, usually the last few thoughts you have before you fall asleep influence any dreams you may or may not have. What I found strange was that you weren't the guy she pointed at ;)

Well, but, I wouldn't have been a guy, would I?

Don't sell yourself short. I think you're very strange.

Hah! Youre going to have to do better than that if you want to be the strangest person in the world. Come to Vegas and ride the bus system after midnight or go to Walmart to see what I mean. :heehee:

I'm very disappointed, Andy. But I have to admit I've never been to Vegas.

Oh, sorry. Theres still hope for you. Go to the People Of Walmart website to pick up a few pointers. Maybe go shopping in your underwear or start driving arond with a pig in your vehicle. Maybe put lipstick on the pig.

Thanks. Maybe I'll just stick to my dreams.

You would be boring if you weren’t strange Annabelle. [I can talk]

Actually it was Frank Sinatra that did “Luck be a Lady tonight” best.

Interesting dream. All I dream about is b****y Motorbikes:straightface:

If my dreams are anything to go by, that is pretty normal :)

Some people would prefer boring, though. Isn't that strange?

Sorry, Suzy dear, but it was definitely Brando who did that number. Playing the role of Sky Masterson, he was about to roll the dice: if he lost, he'd have to pay every man there $1000. If he won, they'd all have to attend the Salvation Army meeting. He won. He was trying to get all the guys to the meeting so that his flame, Sarah Brown, the Salvation Army prude, would be happy with him. Frank Sinatra (playing Nathan Detroit) wouldn't have had any reason to make that bet.

You people are really deflating me here. I thought I was onto something.

Well, I'm saying this in all sincerity that you are a little strange ;-)

Welcome,

Cassy

P.S. Of course, I find it strange that people eat at fast food restaurants but I try to be tolerant.

Annabelle, If I just looked at the numbers correctly, there are at least 27,180 forum users who can go toe-to-toe with you on the strange-o-meter. I don't generally dream about 50's musicals; I dream about thermonuclear war and planting pumpkin seeds. And what's wrong with being weird, anyway. I'd rather be weird and raise a few eyebrows than to be boring and uninteresting.

How's the weather over there? I haven't been there in a while and I think your country is beautiful.

Sorry, I've lived in Florida as well as several other states; you don't have a monopoly on "strange"....not sure if that's good or not.......

Ah, that reassures me a bit.

P.S. Of course, I find it strange that people eat at fast food restaurants but I try to be tolerant.

So do I. I mean, to try it once as an experiment I think is valid. But after that--not for me.

And what's wrong with being weird, anyway. I'd rather be weird and raise a few eyebrows than to be boring and uninteresting.

That's my thinking--which is why I've never regretted being strange.

This time of year you've got two choices--mild and raining, or cold and dry. The last couple of months we've had a lot of the first option. Now it's turned a bit colder. We may possibly have some snow. Irish winters are a mess. Especially because it's dark all the time. Not much you can do this time of year but stay in and see if you can get your nails and eyebrows done properly.

Probably a great theme for a modern musical number.
Video clips are like this all the time now.

Fascinating imagination, but not strange or boring. I dreamt about tiling a staircase.

Hey Annabelle. Why be bothered by dreams anyway. I dress up from head to toe like a woman then take it all off and go to work as a man and I am never
bothered by this contridiction..Now how strange is that?

I too love old movies.....dana

Anabelle, Suzy didn't say Sinatra did it in the movie. Rather, he often covered it later as a stage performer, and that is the version she prefers.

Aye, we got that sorted out by PM.
