Let's say something drastic happens in our nation, and hormones and GRS is no longer offered or available.

it could be nuclear war (but with lot's of survivors)
government overthrow
American (or insert other country) infrastructure collapses

so you can't get hormones, there's no GID therapists to see, there's no GRS surgeons available, no hair removal, no breast implants. Packs of people are out killing, robbing, raping, and looting and pillaging and beating people cause they're different, weak, gay, trans, slow, mentally incapacitated

what are you going to do?? where will you go?? how will you cope with your emotional issues?

has anyone actually thought about this???

This thought truly horrifies me. So much so, that I'm actually thinking of getting my lower surgery done first, and then doing my face and breasts later.

I can handle being an ugly girl. I can handle having small boobs (they have started growing!) I don't think I could handle being forced to live the rest of my life with a penis hanging from between my legs.

so let's hear it.

I think it’s all a mater of the likelihood of something that traumatic happening in your country.
To be realistic, the chances are very low indeed.
There have always been groups and individuals that are predicting the end of life as we know it but the reality is you have nothing to worry about.

Now having said that we will all read in the papers tomorrow that an asteroid is going to collide with earth in a couple of months.

Stop worrying Audrey, you will get your knickers in a twist girl.:heehee:

At least for me, if something like that happened, I would be too busy trying just to stay alive to worry about much else.

And Audrey, I agree that something bad is in the works, I don't know what but something is going to happen here.

suzy, I think the chances are actually pretty high in this country. We're either going to have a civil war, or we're going to end up revolting against our increasingly tyrannical government. I'm not worried about it, it was just a thought that occurred to me, and all of us are on our journeys, so I was only curious to see what everyone would do.

I would just live cross gender role. Its what many tolerant cultures allow to their TS and have since long before SRS or HRT. I knew a girl who did this. Just lived her life as a stay at home mom and didn't make a big deal about anything and she seemed pretty content.

My best friend used to say "You have two things to worry about, if you are healthy or of you are ill. If you are healthy, you have nothing to worry about. If you are ill you have two things to worry about, if you live or if you die. If you live you have nothing to worry about, if you die you die you have two things to worry about heaven or hell. If you go heaven you have nothing to worry about. If you go to hell you will be so busy saying hi to your friends you won't have time to worry".

This seems to be one of those things that if something happened, survival and rebuilding your life will be taking far more of your time and what your appearance is would be rather low on the priority list. I was in a discussion on FB with someone who asked what I would do when the world fell apart and all those who have hoarded food and ammo were the ones who survived. I said I would rather not be in that kind of world where it was everyone for themselves. So if this happens, any of my friends here can contact me for any hormones I may have. I am one of those that if I had a whole warehouse of food, I would share. I have faith that those that did survive would pull together. Otherwise, why bother?

Oh wait...is Canada not involved in this apocalypse? In that case, my Canadian friends better have an extra room. I will bring wings.

We're either going to have a civil war, or we're going to end up revolting against our increasingly tyrannical government.

Nothing is 'happening' folks. Life will continue to go on the way it always has. The sun will rise, you will go to work, you will look forward to the weekend, you will pay taxes.

The government will teeter from liberal to conservative and back again for another couple of hundred years at least and then the world may finally be able to live together in peace without silly borders.

The big apocalypse on 12/21/12 was a bust and there's not another one planned that I'm aware of so relax already. Enjoy life.

oh no, i learned that lesson a long time ago, because I got absorbed in it like 4 years ago, and it was pretty ugly...got very depressed. but no, i was watching tv, and the thought just occured to me.

i hear responses, like well i focus on survival, and forget about hormones, surgery, etc....that brings a valid question that I have.

if civil unrest, a global war or economic meltdown can make us forget our gender identity issues, and we're just focused on survival...these things dont just go away, so we're all led to believe. you can't just turn off your GID issues, you can't just turn off the desire/urge/necessity to become a woman.

but the poop hits the fan, and we magically can??? Very interesting.

it can be scary ReineD, but unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there, so caught up in NFL football, sports, money, buying things, houses, jewelry, what hollywood actress/actor is in trouble...and living the american dream, that their vision is tunneled down to where they don't actually see what's going around them all the time. They don't see what's happening right under their noses.

You should read "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. It won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2007. I thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the dark topic and setting, which is the aftermath of an unnamed global catastrophy. There are only a few survivors after all the food on the planet is long gone. There are heart-wrenching, tragic scenes since it shows how desperate humans can be when their survival is threatened, but there's a lot of hope in the end. Here's a preview:

Audrey, I don't think anyone is saying one can "forget" their issues. But, yes, when someone is looking to find food for the first time in days, other matters will move down the priority scale.

Audrey, one of my best friends is a gloom and doom pessimist like you. I'm the opposite. But I like him anyway. He likes me anyway. I worry he will be a friend I will lose upon transition. .

Let me ask you something. If all the above happened would you worry about your social life? Would you worry about the car you drive? Would you worry about anything but living? Gender won't matter when you are building your anti-zombie fort. They eat anyone's brains.

Let's put this in perspective. Transsexualism isn't something that happen with Rene Richards in the 1950's. TS's have been around forever. But the fact that 150 years ago keeping the bears at bay or making fire or even if you lived in an urban setting, earning a living, took the majority of your time so you didn't think about being in the wrong body. I think if something should happen the idea taht you needed surgery would fall to just below eating and keeping warm. But then again, maybe you would seek the one doctor out there who could still do it, trade three cans of lima beans and a bottle of whiskey.

I dearly love how people can twist things around. No one said they would stop being trans, they just said they would concentrate on survival. After all if you starve all the GRS in the world won't matter now would it? Here is a more likely question. The world sees a switch in governments, your apocalypse occurs but the new regime says you have to be straight or you will die. Can you play straight to survive or would you go around telling everyone you are trans? Methinks you would lie like a rug and save your butt. You don't turn it off but then you don't pursue it either

Sorry Lori, but that comes straight from the heart of someone who doesn't know the despair that leads to transition.

Here is a more likely question. The world sees a switch in governments, your apocalypse occurs but the new regime says you have to be straight or you will die.

So the majority of trans folk won't have a problem as they are straight and the outcome for me would be the same as in Audrey's apocalypse.

Can you play straight to survive or would you go around telling everyone you are trans?

What has being trans got to do with whether you are straight?

Methinks you would lie like a rug and save your butt. You don't turn it off but then you don't pursue it either

You might. For those of us for whom it was literally a choice between transition and death, if you eliminate the first choice, then we are left with the second.

I've always enjoyed the post apocalyptic stories but this is real life. If you are educated and do actually read then you know that this government is nothing like real tyranny. Are you starving,? Fear for.your life every day? Try talking to people who lived thru the great depression. Or possibly some of our new immigrants from certain African countries. That's true strife....children having their arms cut off....whole towns slaughtered. Our lives would be heaven compared to that.

People have been complaining about how civilization is running its course and things are just getting worse since history began. The truth is that if we avoid a nuclear war and don't make any stupid mistakes playing with DNA, then we'll all be here tomorrow and the next day. Predicting doomsday is a short term job. Find something more worthwhile to worry about.

And to be clear....I am always prepared to survive. I just don't think its likely that I will ever have to use those skills.
