View Full Version : I don't think I'm a transsexual but...

lately I've been wanting real breasts and a vagina. I recently retook the COAGI test and the result came back as "Probable Transsexual," all previous times I took it I got the result androgynous. I realize that test is unscientific so I guess my question is does wanting to change my sex make me a transsexual and does that make me a woman trapped in a mans body?

Vanessa, you are most likely a transsexual, at least in your thinking. I wouldn't go so far as to say you are a woman trapped in a mans body, since I am not qualified to decide that. But based on what you have said in your OP, you are certainly moving that way.

Transsexuals must have a persistent gender mismatch. How long is "lately" for you?
Data point: I found that I needed breasts. My body wasn't right without them. I have been on HRT for 2 years (gee, already!), and now I have some. And the only thing that looks at all "wrong" about them on me is that they aren't big enough. And yet I don't know if I am transsexual or not. I do know that I am can't "go back" to male, but that doesn't mean I identify as definitely being female: only that I need to be at least somewhere in the middle. Maybe I'll end up as a non-OP TS, maybe not: where-ever I end up, I have to understand that changing my body to more female is not quite the same thing as being female.

I'm a believer in Occam's razor: among competing hypotheses, the one that makes the fewest assumptions should be selected.
Put it this way, how many NON-transexual men want a vagina? You need to see a gender therapist and get focused on your future.

My COAGI test came back with a probably. Nothing else just probably.
Too much trouble to over think these situations.
I agree that you maybe want a different life.
See how things evolve over the next 12 months and if you are going out dressed regularly and seeing a therapist and asking for HRT you may have gender dysphoria.

Hi,
For those who know what they are will know wether they are men or women, regardless of how you look.
Just because you ....wont..... to change your sex does not make you a transexual its knowing with out any doughts what you are inside, , do you think as a woman , are there things that you relate in a way that says ...woman...
The ? that you are asking is really a ? to your self , you dont know, so there are doughts that you have,
Being a woman is very different than ...wonting ... to be a woman .or like a woman,
To be a woman you ...grow... into being a woman . its not a wont, HRT,& SRS dont make you a woman.
Being a female & growing in to a woman sets you apart from men you are different you think differently every thing about you says i am a person who is different & i need to live in a way that is who i am , this is from conception its an imprint on your whole being regardless of our configertion body wise,
Theres a lot of ?s you need to look at & concider & for many trans its not allways a life of , a bed of rose's the answer lie's with you, & only you, If you are a woman in waiting then youll have to find her, no one else can,

The COGIATI gender-identity test is a self-fulfilling test. If you want to be a girl you'll answer the questions as you would ASSUME a girl would answer the question.
It is basically a parlor game played solitaire.

There was a time a few years ago I seriouslly thought about HRT I went to therphy and my doctor was on board but after some intense soul searching for a year I decided not too just dont think I could have gone all the way.

There is no test out there that can really gauge something like this. Your genuine deep feelings are the only real indicator. To verify what they are you need to go through a specific process.:)

I have to understand that changing my body to more female is not quite the same thing as being female.
From what I understand of the Canadian system (maybe it's just Ontario that is difficult?) - wanting to change your body but not "be" female would be a hard sell? Or am I mistaken - is it only SRS that is more difficult to get approved, but HRT is easier / less strict?

For myself, I found that I thought I was a transexual for a couple of years. With some therapy and a lot of soul searching, I came to accept myself for who I am (a crossdresser who has a strong femme side). I discovered that I was trying to justify the desire to crossdress with something that was out of my control; ie: being a transexual. How I felt about my life at any given moment had some influence on how strongly I thought I needed to transition.
I suggest looking at all the factors in your life, and see if anything else is affecting you in this regard. Wishing you luck with whatever path you feel is best for you.

I don't think I am transsexual but as I dress more I think about breasts and a vagina but this is more a case of the icing on the cake to make my look complete. Never used to have these thoughts though.

I'm sort of floating in that nebulous area myself. When I was on hormones -- and I didn't stop through my own choice -- I quite enjoyed the fact that I grew breasts. My desired body image of myself is female, and though I find the notion of SRS appealing it isn't something I feel the need to race towards. It's the social aspects -- living and working as a woman -- I think about the most, and having that ideal body image.
I'm sort of coming around to the idea that I will live as a woman, but SRS may not be necessary. But, then, I don't think everyone fits into neat little boxes either.

And people can tell an inexperienced therapist what they need to hear as well.Especially if someone[an employer's plan or insurance company] is paying the bill.Doesn't matter the counseling issue, people tell stories to therapists in order to "color" the situation.

I have said in the past that I 'transitioned" back in 80 but I have come to 'see the light' as some have said that only a Transsexual "transitions" and I just went "full time". Full time with perky 32C breasts but what the heck.... So many have said "need" and "desire" are two different things. Want to live your life as a woman? go ahead. You say you "need" a vagina. Does that mean you hate whats parked there right now? If so, then yeah your probably moving towards the SRS spectrum of life. "Need" a vagina but don't "hate" whats where it should be? your probably not. That doesn't mean you shouldn't go ahead and start walking down the path. Thats a lot of what a non-op TS is. If I see a really nice car on the road, and its got all the swoopy curves of a Corvette but theres not a 'bow-tie' on it anywhere, I'll bet its still a Corvette. If your a woman on the inside but something on the outside isn't quite matching, I'll bet your still a woman.
We worry too much about labels and packaging these days....

Pls pls pls ...COGIATI test is a game...its basically another way to crossdress..answer all the questions girly and get your answer....its a complete disservice to the crossdressing and especially transsexual community
putting any faith in it discredits you.
as far as wanting a vagina...occam's razor is a great answer, but you have to be more specific about your feelings..
this is really important...fleeting or occasional thoughts are a way to express your female side... wondering what it would be like and mistaking that for wanting to do it is common
its the PERSISTENT And DISTURBING cross gender feelings that mark being transsexual... if you don't feel that way, enjoy your moments...if you are transsexual trust me, it will take root and you will start feeling it as a disturbing and unwelcome thing in your life.....
as jennifer points out as well...many many people end up identifying as transsexuals and don't even have surgeries, but live as women, legally and socially, every day..
so keep doing what you are doing, explore.....feel free to wonder or wish around body parts...and then be honest with yourself...there is nothing at all thrilling, interesting, exciting, stimulating or fascinating about having a vagina or breasts....

COGIATI test is a passtime, like surveys in cosmo. Also, you can't take it twice, cause you'll just put down the answers that will get the result you're looking for.-Celeste

This so-called test has zero credibility and should be seen as no more accurate than a Cosmo quiz.
Professional help should be sought in order to sort through your feelings

My advice is to find a therapist who specializes in gender issues and spend a little money and time to work out what you really want---and then you can better chart your course

Vanessa, for me your thread title says a lot. When I first came here, I didn't want to admit that I am transsexual, but that was very different from not thinking I am.
Without judging what you said, a number of cross-dressers slip into a kind of "pink fog" where they start to think about having what they see as the two ultimate fashion accessories - breasts and a vagina. That does not make them transsexual. In fact for them to transition would be a total disaster.
You may well have some degree of Gender Dysphoria (although you have not said so), but that alone would not make you transsexual either.
You have not said anything to us about how you see yourself and how well that chimes with what you see in the mirror.
I will repeat to you the advice I often give to people in this forum - do not transition unless you absolutely need to.
If there is even one aspect of your life as a man that you are not willing to forego, then you do not need to transition.
If there is anything or anyone you would not be willing to lose in the interests of making your body conform to your gender identity, then you do not need to transition at this time.
Although I firmly believe that you are either born transsexual or you are not TS, I do not subscribe to the club that says you have to have known all your life that this is what was wrong, but I must stress again that just fantasizing about having female body parts does not make you transsexual.

Cogiati or whatever -
The test results are for entertainment value. The stupid crap on there like "If you are in FLA and a bells rings in Cali, would you hear it?" is pointless but some of the Q's can at least get you thinking about stuff.
Yeah it is like those cosmo tests or surveys like "what are his darkest sexual desires" and the answer is something stupid like how he wants his earlobe nibbled on or to cuddle while drinking hot chocolate. YEAH RIGHT. men's famtasies are MUCH more vile than that.
I forget what it told me, something about how I might be a tranny but I should save my money instead of going to see some "therapist" who would sit there and grin and ask dumb questions.

Only as much as wanting to be an astronaut would allow me to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before. In other words, daydreaming is simply indulging an imaginative fantasy.
Or as much as being bitten by a radioactive spider will allow me to climb walls and have "Spidey sense." But wait, that would mean my uncle would get killed by a common burglar and I would bear the guilt for his death and for ruining my aunt's life. Hmm. No thanks, think I'll take a pass on that one.

I wished I was a girl since as far back as I can remember, I just thought it was a ridiculous fantasy. Before puberty i would just dress up in my moms and sisters clothes after puberty it became sexually charged. Almost every time i would fantasize about sex i would imagine myself as the girl with a boy. Obviously i wanted a vagina, i never really thought much about boobs though. This continued unabated until I couldn't take it any longer and had to seek therapy at age 29. The first time I did I struck out big time with a really bad therapist, after like two visits she declared me just a CDer and told me never to show up at her office dressed as a woman. That sent me back in the closet for 4 years, the next time around I found a CD/TS support group, I asked around about a therapist and found a much better one. She was great at the beginning but we started to grow apart mainly on non TS related issues. When she said she thought I'd never be happy until I had SRS I got scared. I thought as a therapist she should be more objective! The moral of the story is just be careful who you pick to be your therapist. Now I have one who is supportive without pushing
I don't think wanting boobs and a vagina makes one a TS. I have read many threads on the CD side about the subject and lots of CDs say they wish they could have boobs and a vagina. Most of these threads have a common fanciful element where by some form of magic or science turns them into a "real" woman effectively bypassing the very real hardships associated with transition.

For what it's worth...ugh...
this is an excellent example of how some people come to this forum "hang out" with the transsexuals..
It's also an example of how people sexualize being transsexual..which is a huge problem for us, and finally it's an example of why the idea of a "tg umbrella" is so wrong
some threads are light and jokey but this is totally tone deaf and clueless

Calling this "tone deaf and clueless" is being gracious. It's just offensive. Perhaps that stuff flies in the male-to-female crossdressing section (I doubt that), but please don't bring that over here.
