View Full Version : The problem with heels...

Walking into my spare room last night, I got the sensation of my heel going into something soft. I couldn't see anything and had a good old prod around with my heel. Nothing found I ventured on and the heel hit a soft spot again. I had a really good look this time and found my heel had gone right through the carpet. On closer inspection I think there has been a knot in the wood of the floor board, and the stiletto heel has popped this out. Luckily it isn't all that visible so I won't have to rush out and buy a new carpet just yet, but I'll be watching where I put my feet from now on.

Don't the builders try to fill all the imperfections in the flooring before the carpet people come in? I know the linoleum people smooth out the floor so the nail heads and knots won't show through the finished job. My apartment has carpeting over a concrete floor. No soft spots.

I prefer flats, maybe I wear them subconsciously knowing I am not "handy"!

The plus side is you know you have soft spots now and didnt actually fall, that could have hurt, badly. If it's first floor, might want to venture into the basement and check your ceiling.

I have several of those knot soft spots in my bedroom. Fortunately, it just makes the sound of crunching breaking wood and I haven't gone all the way through the plywood underneath, .... yet. Yes, tile and linoleum layers always try to level out a floor because the finished product, the hard surface of tile and the smooth shiny surface of linoleum, will show those imperfections. Carpets just hide it all.

Hi Margaret, There's quite a lot of PSI (pounds per square inch) with that tiny stiletto heel
the good thing no broken bones or heel.

To get an idea about how much that is, if you have a cat, just let them stand on your chest for a little while. It seems like they weigh 80 pound and most of it is on those two little fuzzy front paws!

I have 3000 sq. ft. of knotty pine floors. No stilettos allowed. I wear wedges inside, and if I'm going out in big girl heels, I put them on in the tiled foyer.-Celeste

No stilettos allowed in aircraft, and try walking on the lawn.

I've gotten stuck in lawns. Once was at a Soiree en Blanc, so every one was in white formal wear, with big hats, sipping champagne, and there's me, barefoot, prying my shoes out of the ground. A Bridget Jones moment.-Celeste
