For most Americans this week is Super Bowl Week. For me next week is Super Week. You see, tomorrow morning I am dropping my wife off at the airport for a week-long visit to her sister. Because my wife long ago put strict (though acceptable) limits on my dressing, this will be a rare opportunity to have unencumbered access to the pink fog, which my forecasts say will be very dense in my house next week.
In preparation I have spent much of the past two weeks shopping on line to stock up for the occasion. I find it's almost as exciting to shop for and order the clothes as it is to wear them.
Earlier this week I got my first delivery, from JC Penney (which I had sent to a store to prevent interception). In it were: 1) A kimono-sleeve dress that has an outer shell of semi-transparent chiffon with a black inner liner that is essentially a simple slip; 2) A Glamorise long-line bra that gives me a nice girlish figure; and 3) a pair of red strappy 4"-heel sandals with a slingback. I've had a chance to try these on briefly, and they exceed my expectations.
When I return from the airport tomorrow my mailbox will hold (according to the order-tracking information) a package from my favorite supplier on earth, Secrets in Lace. I've ordered: 1) 2 pairs of fully-fashioned nylons, one with a Euro (square) heel and one with a French (pointed) heel; 2) 2 pairs of reinforced-heel-toe (RHT) nylons; 3) an elasticized pull-on garter belt with 6 straps; and 4) (and this is a special treat) a pair of black, over-the-elbow satin gloves.
All of this set me back a pretty penny, and I would have felt guilty about spending so much, but as luck would have it, I was asked by a local company to provide some part-time help (I'm retired), the pay for which more than covered the expense of the goodies. Better to be lucky than good, I always say.
I normally don't have enough time or patience for my dress-up sessions to bother with makeup, but since time will not be an issue this week I've also stocked up on eye liner, eye shadow, eyebrow pencil, foundation, lipstick, false eyelashes, and press-on fingernails. I'm going to spend Saturday afternoon practicing with the makeup in preparation for my first full session on Super Sunday.
I also don't wear wigs, which I find to be too hot and difficult to maintain, but instead I found a nice fedora hat with black lace covering for only $7 at WalMart of all places. I tried it on, and it gives me kind of a European-chic air.
My wife has a great collection of clip-on earrings, bracelets, and necklaces that I'll borrow from to complete my look.
The full-length mirror in our bedroom will be getting a real workout this week. I'll have to remember to vacuum afterward, to eliminate the spike-heel indentations in the carpet. But I also plan to make a high def video that I can use for vicarious enjoyment when my safe window doesn't permit a complete dressing session.
I hope you all have as good a week as I plan to!
