View Full Version : I went out in broad daylight yesterday
Katrina

I had the day off yesterday and I wanted to go see the ducks at the park near my house. I decided to get all done up in "normal girl" clothes and head off to the park at 10:30 am. Well, I did it. The park was completely empty and nobody saw me but I went out in daylight! I then hit the ATM and was going to hit one of the shoe stores where I have bought a few pairs. I got to the parking lot of the shoe store and it was busy. I couldn't see inside the store because it was very bright out and the store was not brightly lit. All I know is the parking lot was very busy. Well, I chickened out. I was so disappointed in myself. If I get my homework done this morning and stop posting on here, I may try take two.

Good for you, dear! Good for you! A walk in the park, literally! Let us know if you go back for the shoes.

Don't be disappointed!! You did something I couldn't do just yet!
Be proud that you went out in daylight. So what if you didn't go in the shoe store... :) It's just the next step.

I've always enjoyed the irony in the term" Broad Daylight" in our case.

Very cool, Katrina! Congratulations. :)
Just as an aside -- I have found it more comfortable shopping in busy stores, rather than empty or near-empty ones. That way I feel as if I'm drawing less notice and scrutiny from others.

Congrads..... Now you do know that now that you have gone out, it will become addictive and it will get easier and less frighting too.
I remember my first time out in the Daylight. My heartrate must have been
150 the whole time, white knuckle, and swear that everyone was looking at me and knew. Now when I go out, heartrate is normal and I'm relaxed and that makes me less noticable.
Remember act as you belong there and no one will notice you.

Thanks for the encouragement everybody.
...Were you thinking of the ducks as you fed them, or was it andrenalin feeding you ?...
Actually, it was very cold out and the ducks were no where to be found. :( I wonder if they will look at me funny like my cats used to...

Hey Katrina,
Don't worry, chickening out is okay, at least you tried and that the most important thing.
I've been out fully dressed twice and both times at night, your thread is encouraging to me, maybe a broad daylight excursion is in store for me soon.
Thanks for the story.

How cute are YOU?!?! That's great. Way to go Katrina.
Aside from being proud of yourself, I'm sure you felt a lot of other emotions as a result of your journey, too. We'd love to hear more about it.

That just proves it:
You go out dressed, people don't read you.
You dress in doors, and your cat knows your doing something differently than most people ;)
They ARE more intelligent...

Good one Brenda, I like that.
Miss Pinchy, I've done lots of things and been out and about but not ever ever in the daytime. Gosh I'm impressed.
I live in suburbia and nighttime is always my cloak for escapes. How did you leave your house? Do your neighbours know?
Can you read envy into this letter?

...How did you leave your house? Do your neighbours know?...
Funny story, "nobody" but my GF knows. I use quotes because I haven't told anybody but if you saw how I've dressed at work - girls jeans on Fridays, girls khakis, girls trousers, longish nails most of the time, women's shoes everyday - you would know. I went out at a time when most of my neighbors were out or at work. My parking lot was empty except for a few cars. The first time I went out to my mailbox enfemme, my neighbor's son was getting out of his car (right next door). He saw me, but I'm not sure he put two and two together. If he did, then that family knows. Heck, they probably hear me clicking my heels on my floor all the time, unless they think I'm the guy that wears clicky loafers around the house. Who knows...who really cares. They are going to see me dressed sometime or they will call the cops on that dark haired chick driving my truck!

One step at a time Katrina... It's a big -- and scary -- step so don't be too hard on yourself.
For what it's worth, I agree with Sharon that it's actually easier to blend in busy, crowded area -- your favorite local tourist trap is a good bet. People are usually not paying a lot of attention, which why pickpockets like those same areas.
One thing that might help is to wear some sunglasses, which is another reason daylight can be easier to blend in. They help conceal a male browline and more importantly they provide good "psychic armor." Plus between sunglasses and wig you're really quite unrecognizable (even if you do get read) which helps put people at ease. (Celebrities do the sunglasses and baseball hat look for the same reason.)

Easy does it Katrina :)
Little steps first, big strides later. I think you did really good for your first time out...much better than me. How about next time you could instead of going into a store, what about a simple walk through the mall (head down if necessary) just walking around in the general vicinity of people.
Anyway, well done for getting out there and beginning to build your confidence up.

Katrina, Going out in daylight is such a rush, isn't it. You've done well taking that step. Many never get to daylight. Don't wait too long before you go out again and each time you go out, just do what you are comfortable with. It will become easier and more addictive.

Good for you, Katrina!
I know most CDs feel more exposed and vulnerable going out in the daytime, but my opinion is that while you might get read more easily, the people you encounter are more likely to treat you with courtesy and politeness. All the teenagers are in school, and there are more retired people and mothers with young kids about. All in all, the daytime atmosphere feels less threatening to me . . . . but maybe that's just my GG brain at work.

Excellent Miss. Pinchy, wasn't the rush amazing? But, be careful Kiddo, plan your moves and work your plan. Know where you are going, check it out first.
To really have fun at this it takes a little detective work, trust me I learned the hard way. Don't let the emotions overpower the good thinking. Sharon made a good point, crowded places are sometimes the best. Just remember to blend in and you will be fine. You look GREAT! You can do this.

I had never been out fully dressed en-femme, until this past Nov.
I was on vacation for a month, and with the exception of about 4 days, was totally femme, be it all most of the time wearing slacks, as this conformed to the environment i was vacationing in.
I took the plunge, and went out with 2 other ladies i know ( one a gg ) and went fully femme including wearing a skirt, and make up.
The freedom to be able to wear a skirt out in public was exilarating, and as far as I could tell was not read at all.
It only took the one day out fully dressed to realize what i have been missing all this time, and did take the opportunity to go out fully femme wearing a skirt on a few occasions after that and it felt so good to finally be fully out of the closet

I've been out alot dressed during the day and it does get easier. Of course I've been doing this all my life and I don't care who sees me I even do my yard work enfemme. My neighbors has seen me dressed and I've even had them come over for coffee at times. So keep up the good work and you will get more comfortable with it
