The first time I went out dressed? I think Lincoln was president and there was a play.....

I don't know if it was exactly the FIRST time, but I was coning home from dinner, sitting at a light when two men stopped next to me. I rolled down the window and they asked directions to a street that happens to be the same as a Blvd. I sent them to the blvd....for all I know they are still lost. I think when I spoke though they were so shocked they quit listening

January 24, 2012. I was in Joplin Missouri and found a gay club that did drag shows. There was no show that night, but I went out, quiet bar, talked to one person. The next night I was in Des Moines Ia. Went to a simular club, had a guy buy me a drink, danced, went there the next night also. Then the 4th nigh in Omaha NE, same senario, went to a flashy gay club, ended up invited into a bridal party and danced.........was quite interesting, but really built my confidence.

Date: 1865 Getteysburg Pa. talking with a Union General while drinking a warm beer.
He asked me is that Hortense at the end of the bar? I said I don't know you want me to ask her?

I wore an ill fitting dress and went into a store to buy a bar of chocolate.
This was proof to my "friends" that I went into a shop dressed.
The girl at the checkout wanted to give me makeup and dressing advice after I explained the situation.
A month later she helped me seek revenge on my friends.
I never looked back.

Went to a CD club in NYC. Got hit on. Didn't know how to handle it. Kept moving away from guy but he kept finding me. I eventually left. That is not why I went out dressed. Took about a year before I made it to the city again. I have long since learned how to deal with guys I am not interested in. :-)

It was over 30 years ago. I don't remember at all what I wore (alrhough it must've been my mom's or sister's clothes) except that I wore a scarf on my head - didn't have a wig.

I went to the mall to go lingerie shopping. As I was going in a woman coming out said, "Better hurry sweetie. They're closing soon."

Other than that, no one said anything.

I cannot recall if my first time out en femme was just driving around or making contact with humans. Therefore, I will limit my respond to the human contact. It was Halloween. After the kids and wife were asleep I dressed, fully, and did my makeup. I wore a knee length long sleeve jade with black accents dress, black strap on heels, beige thigh highs, a green scarf to obscure my Adam's Apple, a brunette wig, and all white undergarments; bra, panties and slip. I walked around a little until I could muster the courage to buy a doughnut at a Winchell's Doughnut House. The cashier was a woman. She complemented me on my presentation. I think back now on that night, and, wonder if I really thought my wife did not realize I was not sleeping beside her. She knew I was a cross dresser. Now, I suspect she knew what I was doing but, just adhered to the DADT policy that was enforced.

January 12, 2013 Rocklin CA at a River City Gems social.

IT WAS FANTASTIC. The girls were more than gracious, very friendly and very supportive and I felt like I had been dressing all of my life.

Thank you Melissa and Debbie

You've got to define "dressed". Years ago I went out in my car wearing a bra under my shirt, then put water ballons in place and drove around where nobody would know me. Is that "dressed"?

Later, I took clothes with me and changed in the car and drove around at night, even got out of the car in a parking lot and took photos. Is that "dressed"? I eventually did the same but in the daytime and walked around an outdoor mall and around the tourist section of the city. I suppose that's "dressed", but I now have a nicer wig, better forms and a complete wardrobe.

I'm hoping for the day when my wife will go out with me (dressed). Nothing yet, though.

Oh, what happened? Nothing bad. I got a few looks, but I think I fooled more people than not. It was a thrill.

My real first time in public was nothing much and I chickened out quickly. It was at a Wal Mart late at night and I was all alone. Then I joined a group and went to a few meetings. My first time really out in public was a girls night out at a very nice restaurant in downtown Orlando. I went with a few other girls and we used valet parking and went inside. The staff was very nice to us and treated us like princesses. Other people there had no reaction to me at all. I went outside a few times alone to smoke on the sidewalk of a busy street with lots of people walking by, and no one gave me much notice. Some would say hi or just nod as they went past. One man even asked me for a smoke. It was wonderful and I have done it several times since. Always have been treated like any other woman they might see. I have never had any kind of bad reaction from anyone so far. Even when shopping at a mall a couple of weeks before Christmas.

Oh my! The really sad thing is that I remember seeing Karren with the dinasour, and Lorileah at the Ford Theater, and as I told Tracii G, I was not tense at all, the Red eye had just not kicked in yet, and I was just worried about passing.

Last May. Got dolled up in a nice black dress, heels, to the nines. Drove around town, went to the grocery store, and filled up the gas tank. Major malfunction with the automatic cutoff, left a gallon of gas on the concrete. Cruised the malls, went home to stop shaking.

The first "meaningful" time for me was when, late one night, I drove a short way from where I lived, exited the car and walked across a park, through a church yard, a few scary paces along the road and back across the park to the car. I was desperate not to come into contact with anyone and if we're rating pass-ability on a scale of 1-10, 0.25. Until this post I'd forgotten how much that experience meant to me and how I should draw strength from it it future endeavors.

1979 - Went shopping at a mall. Got read by the sales clerk, heard the infamous words, " Oh my God!" panicked, and went to another store, bigger in size to calm my nerves. Bought some heels and went home and thought I had just gone to heaven and back. Right back at it the next week.

2009, went with a TS friend to the local gay bar, danced and had a good time. Met someone there from work who didn't care and thought it was interesting.

Halloween 2008. Went to a party fully dressed. One of my wife's friends stood there talking to us for several minutes before she made eye contact with me, and then had a moment of, "holy cow! I know you! I just thought you were some lady I didn't know standing there!" That was awesome. A little bit later another friend and I were standing in the drink line with someone we didn't know. He was talking to us for a couple minutes, and again, it took him a bit but then he looked more closely at me and was like, "Woah!" when he realized he was talking to a man in a skirt. I could've floated away on a cloud. Leaving that party and coming home and getting undressed was the saddest thing ever...

I went for a massage on a rainy day and walked down what is normally a busy street. Just skirt and top but bra and g string underneath, Felt strange but was quite amazing. Massage lady gave a funny look while I was dressing but nothing said. I can't wait for the next time. I would love to get a wig.

April 1972. I was wearing navy blue VF panties, navy blue bra, navy blue girdle and navy blue full length slip. Underneath all that I was wearing Chanel #5 body powder and spray mist. Over that I wore a navy blue dress that I had just purchased in a tall size. I was wearing suntan stockings and covering my feet were some navy blue shoes with a cute little buckle on them. I had on a pearl necklace and pearl clip on earrings. After I put my light tan trench coat on I checked my make-up (all Bonne- Belle) and made sure my hair was done up right. My heart was beating out of my chest when I stepped out of my apartment and walked down the hall to the outside. I walked about half a block to my car and drove around. I walked around a few city streets. On one I was approached by five laughing teen-age girls. They all seemed to ignore me except for one who turned around and stared. Made it back to my apartment and began planning more excursions out.
