Having been in and out of dresses since the 1970's (as far back as I can remember), do we not live in a good time to be a CD'er.

Before the advent of on-line shopping, for some it would of been difficult to put together a good collection of female clothing and accessories.

I remember going to a specialist shop in London, back in the early 90's and paying £15.00 just for their sales brochure!

how times have changed.

I can buy everything from fake boobs to pretty lingerie at the click of a button. All for a sensible price and of reasonable quality for my needs, and without the embarrassment of poking around Marks & Spencer’s lingerie section:heehee:

The only female thing a purchased from a high street store recently was some jewellery, everything else is via the web.

Though I have to say, I'd love to live in a society where I could freely walk into a store, en-femme, and try on new outfits!....which I know some of you already do.

For us 'shy' types...thank heavens for internet shopping:)

I agree the Internet has made purchasing clothing and shoes easier. I am also shy and not out to anyone.

The internet has changed the scene for anyone shy to go out thes days.
I do hope you overcome your shyness, as it opens up a whole new world for you.

2013 - A good time to CD?

You could’ve probably crossdressed more easily back in the 1970’s, at least in this country. I mean, there was a certain amount of willful androgyny going on back then, perhaps basking in the glow of the free love movement, only to dissipate once we lost our so-called “innocence” for the umpteenth time. I don’t know, I wasn’t there, but, if historical images are any indication, I think we’ve stepped backwards AWAY from the brink, the brink being integration of the sexes as expressed by crossdressing...

It’s never been easy, IMHO, and it never will be. Here in the Heartland the genders are quite distinct, and they are kept that way. I assume that is going on everywhere, in various degrees, perpetuated at the expense of any experimentation that could be going on in public or elsewhere. However, in certain ways it IS a great time for crossdressers because you can obtain all sorts of fetishistic objects, previously unavailable, with ease. I operate from my cave (er...closet) here in Kansas, a human anomaly submerged amidst a sea of conformity...

I guess that for people who are satisfied buying clothing items off the net, and/or are afraid of trying on cothes in stores, things are "better" than in the past. But even IF folks have no desire whatsoever to ever leave their house dressed... I personally would never even buy men's clothes off the internet much less women's. I need to see them, feel the material and TRY them on for fit... because every single pair of women's shorts, jeans and heels I have tried on ALL fit a little different. I can't speak for bras, skirts, blouses or anything else but I can only "guess" that it works the same for them? Trying on at least 3 or 4 different ones if not far more is going to GREATLY increase the odds of a good fit in any type clothing?

I am guessing that one day Sally, you will just "bite the bullet" and try something on in a store and find out that neither the store nor Mean Ol' Society cares one bit and then you will kick yourself for waiting so many years. Do you or anyone else think any store cares if it's a man or a woman spending money? Or cares about what they buy?

I would say we live in a good time to be a CD :D Before the net, it was extremely hard for a lot of girls. I personally have never bought anything on the net though. I would do quick fly by the ranks kamikaze missions lol often the end result were a lot of things that did not fit. I think the best way to shop for me now, even with the internet, is side by side with my SO. She's fun to shop with, has a good sense of sizes and run interference if need be but never is.

I will agree on line shopping has made it easier to buy feminine attire. In the past I have bought at brick and mortar stores for my wife and myself, but, the selections and prices are better on line. I will also agree with Freddie with the exception of some cities, it is still difficult to be a sexual minority.

Not only is it a blessing for those who are shy about buying things in person, but it is also much easier to find exactly what one is looking for nowadays. It is also easier to find a great bargain as well, and get what you are looking for cheaper.

I used to buy a lot of stuff online, but I've switched back to regular stores because I got tired of getting stuff that was the wrong size, or just plain ugly. I like to see what I'm buying. It leads to fewer disappointments.

Hi Sally, I'm really with you on this. Unfortunately it is more accepted being a criminal that a non-violent, kind and generous crossdresser. Perhaps we may see this change one day!!

Sorry, went off on a tangent. I buy both online and in store. I'll research online so I know what to get in store and this allows me to double check if I really like the item. It's a shame a chain store couldn't have special nights where us girls could meet in private and "properly shop"! Just imagine how much the could earn!!!!

Libby.

I buy a lot of stuff on the net. A lot of clothes. I have only a very few I did not like or didn't fit. I also buy in stores but the selection is so limited I end up looking on line more than not. In the last year maybe 3 things I bought on line were just not what I wanted. I sent 2 of them back and gave the other away.

The other thing the internet brings us is forums like this. In the 60's and 70's it was hard to find people to share experiences with. The internet has changed that, which also makes it a good time to be a crossdresser.

The world is a lot more accepting of us than you may expect, Sally. While I agree it's a lot easier to acquire the things we want on line, so much easier and more selection than not long ago, I encourage you to overcome your shyness and get out there. It's fine, of course if you choose to remain more discreet. Still, I think you'll really enjoy getting out, once you give yourself the chance.

You gotta man up honey.

You'll never know the feelings of walking into a women's store, and not only getting the deals, but haggling for a way better price.

So many of these shops, will disappear, in a few months anyways.
They don't mind haggling, with just about anyone with a beautiful credit card in their hand.
It's surprising how quick they get wrapped up in the art of the sale.

Naturally, today, is better than the past, and better than some unknown future.
