Has this happened to you

Well, I've my own clothes so I don't rely on my wife's. We were attending a formal dinner at the weekend, so my wife put on her lbd(that in itself was amazing). I knew she was wearing it, so I was looking forward to trying it on. So yesterday I tried it on got myself made up, black opaques tights on. Then came the moment I put it on, rolled it down myself, then looked in the mirror. Shock it looked liked I'd put on a black sack, it didn't look right I don't know why. Any other clothes I wear fitted fine.
Maybe it was the style it just wasn't working, so I changed shame to waste time.

Has that happened to you, looking forward to wearing something that just didn't happen.

Just because a garment is the right size, it doesn't mean that it will look or fit the right way.:straightface:
Sometimes, I will have something on and Jean will look at me and get this....look, sort of head cocked, and she will tell me that something isn't working with what I have on.:doh:

LBDs are the holy grail of dresses (at least to me). To my understanding GGs can spend years looking for the perfect LBD. When the right one comes along, it just fits like a second skin and accentuates the natural curves of the person wearing it. I have researched the LBD and there are many articals about how to select one for yourself. Don't be discouraged about your experience. There is one out there for you.

To answer your question Dominique,
Some clothes we admire from afar just don't come up to scratch when worn.
I have bought dresses I have seen on mannequins in shops and when I took them home, total disappointment.

Personally I tend to stay away from dresses, preferring seperate skirt and top for the simple reason that the male trunk is longer than the female and unless it is made to measure and this fact is taken into account then dresses mostly look awkward as they fit in the wrong places. on many occasions I have looked forward to getting dressed up in a really nice outfit only to be really dissappointed with the results only to get changed into something simple like jeans and a top.

Sometimes something just doesn't fit right or look good on someone and look fabulous on others. Sometimes I'll drool over an outfit at my friends store until I try it on and realize that it just isn't me.

I had donated many dresses to Goodwill until I figured out what looks nice for my body type. Not having the waist a woman would have, I tend to wear sheaths, wraps, empire waists, and similar dresses. Being tall and having no real waist, I look terrible in most, if not all, dresses with a natural waist made for a five foot seven woman.

Because its made for her body, not yours? ...best thing to do is find something that's made to fit your body which probably...takes some work if you watch shows like 'What not to wear' they explain why some things look better on one person vs another.

That's why I always try on dresses in the store before buying. I've found that dresses are way pickier about who they look good on than separates. I've had my heart broken more than once when I try on a dress and then I feel like I look like a linebacker in drag in it.

Yeah, that's happened to me a lot. That's why I quit buying dresses online. Going to the store is a lot more fun anyway.

Oh totally! In the past I've bought lots of dresses that looked so cute on the hanger and I had this image of how I would look when I put it on ... but no, lots of disappointment has made me be very selective on what dresses I do or don't buy. I've learned just what styles suit me and what doesn't. For example, I've only ever found one halter neck dress that looked ok on me.

This is a problem us GGs run into a lot too. Esp with dresses, I have some that when I tried on at the store it looked good but when I went to wear it I looked a hot mess in it!

Oh god yes. I spent a lot of time on my NewYears outfit this year. I bought a winter white Jones NY ladies tuxedo, a silver shimmery top, and some lace over silver metalic Jimmy Choo pumps. I tried everything on as I shopped, but not all together.
The big night, I got back from hair and nails, spent a lot of time on make up. Then I put on my clothes, shoes, pearl necklace and drop earrings and ...voila... I looked like a casino greeter!
I grabbed my nice rhinestone clutch, and headed out. I got compliments, but I never felt that my presentation lived up to my expectations. The suit will probably hang in my closet til I give it to Goodwill. Nice shoes tho'.-Celeste

Why do you think GGs shop so much. They try on and try on and ... try on until they find the lbd. A lot of us feel that we must buy something if a shop lets us try on clothes. GGs try on clothes all the time and don't buy. I used to be like many here and feel obligated to buy, but now I son't buy unless it fits and looks good on me.

I was pretty sick for a month or so and didn't feel like dressing or posting. I lost some ground with my wife while I was sick, but I've gained it back now and a little more. I've hinted about tights a few times and each time my wife would ask my why I needed tights. I would tell her "To cover my hairy legs."

Well, the other night she was cleaning and straightening her dresser drawers and later, I went into the bedroom and found three brand new pairs on top of my clothes at the end of the bed. So now I have tights.

Back to the original post - Different clothes look different on different bodies. Even GGs have to take this into account when buying. I would love to have a one piece tight black spandex dress but with my gut and lack of hips I'm sure it would look terrible on me. Many women can't pull that look off either.

I think most of us do better with skirts and blouses. Even with my padded panties, I'm not really proportional as a female.
