I found out a few days ago that I am going to have to move at the end of March. Although this came suddenly, I am not having much trouble finding a new place. That is the least of my worries. I have no shortage of friends who are willing to help with it either. But here is where it gets interesting. I always here that people need to go along with transitioning at their own pace, and mine is about as slow as a glacier. I am too involved in a job that requires me to not only work as a man, but to be percieved as a man in almost everything else because I never know when i may bump into volunteers or homeless clients away from work. I dont really care about whether there are legal things that can be done about the situation, I signed a contract with a morals clause when I started working there, and quite simply i make too much of a difference there to want to change in the forseeable future. You are probably wondering where all this is going- most of the volunteers of whom I will need several would be from there. My best friend, one of the few people who knows about all this will be running the whole show. I hope we can figure something out, because I have a lot of clothes and even if i stuff all of them in trash bags, i could see a lot of ways things could go badly wrong.... This is kind of a talking it out post, but comments and suggestions would be welcome.

No way around it. You gotta find the time to get the clothes out on your own first. Leave the heavy stuff, the furniture, the kitchen stuff, for the volunteers.

I see we have a new moon March 11. http://www.tutiempo.net/en/moon/phases_3_2013.htm Meaning no moonlight for a couple days. That would be the perfect time to sneak your stuff out under cover of darkness. ;-)

i recently moved, and used smallish boxes with witch room they went in writen on them no other description for some things like my clothes and other private things. I had help from poeple no one had any idea what was in any of the boxes. Trash bags have the problem of even if you can't see whats inside without opening it you can still figure out it is clothes, so the question might come up why do you have so many clothes.

can you afford public storage?? just for a month or two...

start moving stuff in now slowly? do the big move with no issues then get your stuff back...

i think that works well ...just take the trash bags and whatever else and store it..make a bunch of trips if there are lots of bags...maybe even your friend can store it for a couple days???

I know one transsexual that had little money and needed to downsize her apartment after a divorce....she had set up her condo very feminine and was privately and slowly transitioning...starting HRT etc....

when she moved, she had an OH CRAP!!! moment...realizing on a thursday that her buddies were coming on a saturday to help her move...and she had alot of clothes and a very girly bed and bedroom set
i was in california at a course, and her other good friend was just recovering from a surgery......nobody else knew about her....

so she moved the whole set BY HERSELF on friday after work....oh, and it was a 3rd story outdoor walk up...and it was february...she had to store the set for a couple days at her friends house while she recovered.. and then we all helped her move it in the next week....how she got a bureau down 3 flights is beyond me, she said she did it inch by inch ....she said one person (a woman) came by and just said OMG and didn't help..

..she was a union worker and was scared to death...literally..one time people thought she was gay and they held her over a ledge in the 80's....

pretty incredible...

of course people found out months later and thats when her car got shit on, and her windows smashed...

As far as the public consciousness has evolved in thirty years, and certainly with the HR rules in place governing non-discriminatory employment practices, I don't think that would be allowed to happen now. Of course, there will always be yahoos, and not just in unions.

thank you all for the great advice. I have considered public storage, and it is still a possibility.
