Has any one read this book called "In One Person"

John Irving who uses dressing characters is stories like "Garp"wrote this book last year or so ..oneof themain characters is a cross dresser. over all the book deals with gender line stuff. the cover of the book is probably worth a million words- a picture of aperson putting on a bra as viewedfrom the back. i so readily identified with so many parts of this story but the cover really got me. I am such a slow reader < I have been reading this and re reading partssince last summer.
Just wondering if any one had a look too.

I would like to hear your ideas . this book has hit me with rare intensity.

I read it shortly after it came out. I enjoyed it a lot and thought Irving was gutsy, and a little crazy, to write it; but I didn't really relate to any character as just a crossdresser. I could relate in other ways though.

Relating to the book and parts of some characters. The idea of "takes one to know one
' kept on in my head about the author .. I am so happy about this book being in the mainstream , because potentially it can expose this puzzle of crossdressing to a mainstream audience . some passages seen to be mixed ideas.

Yes I agree,

One reviewer finished her piece with this: "We are formed by what we desire," Billy Abbot says early in the novel. If what we desire is acceptance and love, as is the case with Billy, then we are lucky, because Irving has shown us the way in this tender celebration of human sexuality.

Reason enough to read this book.

I saw the book on sale, flipped through it and as it did not raise interest at the time I put it back.
Maybe I had better try and read into it a bit more than just what is on the surface.
