I recently bought a new car and I'm on a mini-trip away en femme and went out last night for the first time dressed in the new car. Well, I quickly discovered that driving a standard with 6" heels is a bit challenging. haha Because the clutch and brake pedal are so close together driving was def. a challenge. Looks like I've got some practice to do.

Maybe some flats for driving? You could change shoes before exiting your new car of corse.

Flats for driving, or just kick off your heels while you're driving the car...

And this is why I don't bother taking anything over a 3" with me in the semi. Just way too much for driving in. Not that I use the clutch, except for starting and stopping, but the angle just kills my ankles.

be careful, I almost got into an accident wearing my 5' platforms. Its hard to judge first time around. so what kind of car did you get ? :daydreaming:

To be completely honest? I wouldn't try to drive my stick shift Porsche in heels. But, all my other automatics? No problem!

its a good way to scuff up the shoes too. I also drive a standard and have recently been wearing heels as i drive. I have a 4" pair I can manage in but any higher its harder to feel the pedals sometimes. Some shoes are meant for walking not driving.

It really is not fashionable driving in heels.
You scuff the back of them and do all sorts of damage.
Especially if they get entangled whilst driving......
As I said they are not fashionable for driving.
Flats are wonderful.
The shoes, not the apartment.

I see 2 options here

(1) don't wear 6" heels
(2) don't drive

I drive an automatic so I hardly have a problem with driving in my heels, though I have only done it a couple of times, I did fairly well. A manual? Never. I would most certainly wear some flats or booties while driving and change them before I got out. In all fairness though, Practice does make perfect ;) Just be careful!

All our cars are sticks and I've found little problem with driving in heels. I only go up to 4 inches, though.

That's why gurls take their heels off when they drive!

That's quite a mental image! Probably something like a SmartCar or a Fiat 500 since other cars would be rather large on nearly anyone.

I am accustomed to driving an automatic while wearing heels and think nothing of it but, like others have mentioned, I have seen damage to some of my shoes. I'm trying to teach myself to change to flats while driving. Probably safer as well.

Hugs,
Persephone.

LOL "Some shoes are meant for walking not driving." and some are not even meant for walking

I don't drive anymore, but I believe I would keep a pair of flats handy in the car for driving.

It’s dangerous, don’t do it. There are other road users out there that you are putting in danger as well as yourself.

So, I figured out what the issue is. It isnt the fact the heels are 6" it's the fact the platform is so large. I wore 5" heels out today with a small platform and had zero issues at all. So, I just can't wear the other shoes out driving. I will have to wear flats or something if I wear those shoes out.

Driving in 6" heels??????? OMG, I couldn't even WALK in them.
Flats or low heels for driving...if just for safety. It's easy to change when you get there.

Myth Busters did a show a year or two back where they tried to see if wearing heels affected driving skills. They didn't find much difference, but Jamie's legs looked especially cute!

For me, 6 inch heels would be like wearing stilts and I drive an automatic. It still would be a challenge to drive with those heels, if that's all I had I would take my shoes off until I got to my destination.
