I WILL BE BEARDLESS.

Eventually. E3K is the best, IMO, but you do realize this will take many sessions to get you where you want to be, right? $1500 is only your first outing!

Do you mean I could have spent $18,500 less? What's E3000?

Michelle I think it takes about 3 full clearings to get all the hairs?

Um, no.

There are about 40,000 hairs in a typical beard. At any given moment about a third of those are active, and those are the only ones that can be treated. Hairs grow on a 6-week cycle, but each hair has its own 6-week cycle. So it's kind of a very tiny game of whack-a-mole until you get them all.

My first E3K session was 18.7 hours at $105.00 per hour. As of today I have a total of 126 hours of electrolysis under my belt (a total face clearing every time I go in). My next session is in a couple of weeks and I already have another one scheduled for a couple of months later.

After 126 hours I can finally leave the house without makeup but I'm not quite hair-free. I estimate another 50 hours or so to really be baby-butt smooth.

What's E3000?

Electrology 3000 in Dallas. Well-known in transgender circles, they get clients from all over the world. The first time I was there they had just finished a girl from Turkey and as I was leaving they had just taken a long-distance call from a girl in Russia.

They're very good at this. They provide a range of services, the most popular being total face clearing each time. They're very careful with the technique and they use insulated probes which cause less skin damage. I've been going to them the whole time I've been in transition and I wouldn't go anywhere else.

...this cost scares me and I'm really, really glad laser worked for me.

I would caution everyone about removing your beard in just 3 sessions. I have been going to Senza Pelo Med Spa in Phoenix AZ and they have done about 170 hours with a complete clearing each time. I am now a hairy lady getting ready for a return trip this week. Whack a mole is a good analogy for killing beard hair. I believe Senza Pelo does the same type of treatment using lidocaine to deaden your face. My treatment sessions run using two technicians working at the same time for up to four full days. There are a couple of trans people on the staff and they always treat the bearded lady as a lady. Feel free to PM for any additional information. Pickles please do not set your expectations to high, you will not be beard free with only 15 hours of electrolysis no matter where you go.

I am surprised to hear all of this about electrolysis. Dont lasers do it now at a fraction of the time and cost?

For some, but unfortunately those of us with blonde/gray/red beard hairs (and in my case, all three!) don't have much luck with laser at all.

Lasers are not considered permanent hair removal but hair reduction. For permanent hair removal you need Galvanic current to the hair follicle. The galvanic current creates a lye substance which kills the follicle if you add thermolisis you can speed up the process but it will take more than just a few hours. I just returned from Phoenix and had about 44 hours of treatment (22 hours using two electrologists working at the same time).

Senza Pelo Med Spa uses a new electrolysis technique called S.I.M.P.L.E., which is an acronym for Sequential Inverted Micro-Pulsed Led Energy, and they have found the results to be amazing. Here is an explanation of how it works:

SIMPLE: The acronym SIMPLE gives reference to how the AC (alternating current) technique is applied throughout the entire follicle starting at the dermis.

SEQUENTIAL: Implies a uniform series of current applications: one immediately following under the placement of the previous pulse utilizing one-piece stainless/non-insulated probes only.

INVERTED: Indicates current commences at the top of the dermis (no hair grows in the epidermis, hence no electrical current should be allowed to affect this surface tissue.) This inverted technique mandates CONSTANT movement of current in a slow, methodical manner allowing for the level to be met.

MICRO: Millionth of an ampere or extremely small amounts of current.

PULSED: Quickness of time in thousandths of a second (quick as the blink of an eye). The formula for micro flash technique is:

Current X Time = Pulses per Millimeter depth

LED: Each pulse follows and is repeated below the previous application while the probe is being moved constantly between each pulse

ENERGY: Refers to the electrical current used.

One of things you always want to do is make sure that you are damaging your skin and the SIMPLE technique is gentler on your skin than some other types of hair reduction methods.
