Its one of the best Christmases ever, I got my new passport in the mail today to :)

I don't think what they did had much to do with my complaint, they were already working on the issue with at least one other trans person.

But it is freaking awesome they (ITD) changed their policy

It was to late in the afternoon when I got the email to go get my drivers license changed today. It will be interesting to see how it goes tomorrow when I get there, I'm sure it will be the same woman that did my name change last May and that denied the gender change a few weeks ago. I'm going back in with all the same stuff only the ITD policy I have now (worded exactly the same as the one I took with me last time!) is dated effective today so hoping not to get any grief from her or resistance to changing. Its kind of embarrassing when you are there trying to do this and everyone listening watching what is going on with you.

I've looked at the passport a few times though, the new one and the old one. Its kind weird looking at the old one with the new one, one identity going away and new beautiful one emerging. Around the house my wife still keeps pictures of the guy I was, but they don't really register much for me, like I don't see they are there or that they are me. When I look at the old passport picture I just wonder how was I ever him? God I hated it. There was so much shame, self loathing, anxiety in that guy, he was so uncomfortable with who he was. How did I ever do it?

Good luck when dealing with the woman. At the risk of stating the obvious, if you are dealing with the same woman, try to be even more gentle with her than you would normally.

Oh! I knew there was something I wanted to add. Try not to look too hung over from your :rave: when you go there for your :gift: (aka new license). :heehee:

Its funny sometimes I was so on cloud nine with the passport and and the news about being able to go get my license -- I'm gonna be a legal girl now yay! then I stop to get gas this morning and someone calls me "he". (I even made myself look extra good this morning for the DL picture!!) .... well back to day to day reality.

Went to the DMV, all documents in hand including the document from the director

and she got on the phone to the capital again, who then sent it to higher ups, who sent it to higher ups and I was told that legal was reviewing my case and they would get back to me.

Party time - got my new license!!!!

There were, just for the record, actually three complaints but thats okay my name stayed out of the news. When I talked to ACLU lawyers they were already working with someone and not sure if they would use my case or not because the circumstances were different. So, I guess they didn't.

All good news - really I am very very surprised that they were able to get the state to change the rule. I was shocked.

I do feel more legit now, between that and my passport. Now to have id that matches and not have to worry about it anymore.
