Here I am, 21 days post-op now. What an experience this has been here in Bangkok. Dr Chett recommends a couple of hotels to stay at. I choose the Dusit Princess, which is a 4 star hotel. The staff here is very friendly and it is clear that customer service is #1 priority.
During my stay here, I met a bunch of other women that were also patients of Dr Chettawut. Throughout the past week, we got to know each other pretty good. We would meet in the dining room and share meals together, layout at the pool, and go shopping together. Across the street from the hotel is Seacon Square mall. This place is huge and almost as busy as the streets of Bangkok. With endless stores and restaurants, we always seemed to find a reason to go there. Walking was difficult at times, and we would find comfort and rest when needed.
The bonding that builds between others that share the same life changing surgery is nothing short of amazing.
While I have only known some for less than a week, the tears are easily at the surface when it was time for good-byes. The severing of togetherness is tougher than one would think.
Of course we all agreed that staying in communication is a good idea, one can only hope that this does hold true.
Five hours from now, I will leave this room that I have called home for weeks now. A comfortable bed that I have spent countless hours in. This room was my safe haven to rest and rebuild from the trauma of surgery.
This will begin the start of my long journey back to Florida. I will fly to S. Korea and then the long portion of the trip is to Dallas. Which is followed by a short flight to Florida. All in all, it will be 28 hrs of travel, of which 23 will be on airplanes.
I am hoping that my Magellan seat cushion will keep me in some comfort.
This was my first time under the knife, and what a huge way to start. Not only was this a physical life changing experience, but mental as well. I have had many emotional times during the past month here as well. The experience of interacting with my new friends was priceless and I will walk away a different because of them.
