Hi girls,

I wonder if any of you would care to share your thoughts about how you chose your girl name? For instance, I chose the name Megan because it fit my initials but I wonder what others considered.

With my bad memory, I picked one close to my real first name. It was also the name of my deceased cat and of my living grand daughter.

Sara Jessica

I picked Sara kind of spur of the moment back in the 1990's. I was checking in at a support group meeting and was asked "so what's your name" to which I replied something along the lines of "to heck am I going to tell you my name" and they replied, "no, a feminine name". Sara being a favorite of mine, I just kind of let it out without too much thought. More thought went into the spelling, no "h" at the end.

Then when I joined here, "Sara" of course was taken so I added another fav, "Jessica" without really being overly conscious that there is a slightly more famous "Sarah Jessica" out there. But one thing her and I have in common is a love of style which I guess makes the name fitting.

Mark my words, I will never change it. It is all me.

I took the first 3 letters of my real name and created a female name. I thought I had something unique until I googled the name. Not sure if I like it anymore but oh well.

Mine was given to me by my ex wife. Before that I had simply been using the feminine version of my male name.

I'm a classic movie fanatic and the name Barbara keeps coming up. There are Barbaras Stanwyck,Hale,Eden,Rush, the list just goes on.Beautiful, classy women. But mainly I chose my name for my very favorite, lovely Barbara Nichols, who I've been in love with since I was a kid.Besides,I just always liked the name.

Just one I liked. My favorite names were already taken by my daughters and wife.

mine was in my baby book Lori Lee. The movie Gentlemen prefer blonds was popular and I think my mom took it from there (lorilei lee)

Like Allie, mine is close to my boy first name. Pretty much a serious lack of imagination on my part.

I chose one that sounded close to my name, It was well though out in case I reacted to someone shouting my name, actually it was probably a bad choice but I'm at an age of not caring to much now

There's a whole 'nother thread (http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?174762-Your-Female-Name) that tells these stories.

Since mine is hard to find in that thread (it was a while back): "Amy Gale" are the names my mother would have given me if I were born a girl. "Ruth" is the name of the original mesh avatar in Second Life. "Tapie" was my (late) maternal grandmother's maiden name.

Hi.

Noel edward, Loch-head to noeleena edwina same last name, though i do have two others as well. mannfried ,Von Reutchthos as part of my history,

No-el / noel is a females name as well so i could have just stayed with that though Jos & i thought it would be good to have more of a female name, as it was i was called noeleen till a nurse from Phuket , said no it has to be noeleena, so every one knows i am noeleena.

noel shows my maleness noeleena shows my femaleness, so you can see why i have stayed with my birth name wether Mom knew i was / am, intersex ill never know,

...noeleena...

My memory might be better, or not, than Allie's, but I also chose a name close to my guy name. I dropped the "arata" as it lost its meaning once I let Miki out of the closet.

As an aside, I was talking with my SO about how people often choose a feminine variation of their male name. This is fine when our activities are crossdressing but can lead to acceptance issues should they go on go become a transsexual. It's a transsexual friend of ours who is encountering some acceptance difficulties with her friends and neighbours who sparked the conversation as we both felt her having changed her name from Stephen to Stephanie left people being reminded of her male past because the names were similar.

In my own case I chose a completely unrelated name based on a short list of ones I liked, narrowed it down to half a dozen and eventually settled on just one. I also changed my last name, though that was for unrelated reasons.

Mine was a derivative of my real name.
Made up by my girlfriends when I was twenty.

I chose the name Suzy because it’s the name of my sister’s dog.
What does that tell you about Suzy:eek:

Guess mine is similar to my porn name (name of your first pet and mothers maiden name) except it's my Grandmothers pet's name and my Fathers birth name!

Erica Marie

The first name I chose because it was different and sounded "cute". After some thinking I changed it to the name I have now. Erica is my middle name with and extra letter and Marie is very close to my first male first name. I guess I made the change because it is closer to the name my parents gave me. Just fits better.

I started out as Anne Ahnimus. I was surprised that nobody had used it before.

As I became more comfortable here that no longer felt right, so I changed to Micheal Salem. I have a GG friend named Michael, and it was a nod to "Michael Salem's Exotica Boutique", a store in the 1970s that catered to crossdressers. But then I found out they were still in business so I changed to Mich. I have been toying with changing it one last time, to the name my mother had chosen if I'd been a girl. I really am more of a Lisa than a Mich, and self-image is what this is all about for me.

I don't usually think of myself by name; I'm just me.

Hi Mbridger, I never really thought about a feminine name till I joined this form so I thought long and hard about a name
I wanted something that had no connection with anybody past or present so I said an Orchid is my favorite flower
and Blue is my favorite color so you can see where this is going now .

So now you know how Blue Orchid came into existence in December of 2008

"Linda" is the name my mother had picked out for me if I had been born a girl. That was back in the days when nobody knew until you were born. She really wanted a girl and I'm thinking that might be part of my crossdressing.

"Allen" is a family name.

I chose mine because I like it and it's something of an homage to my first elementary school crush.
Also, I wanted a name that was not similar to mine in any way and was in no way a derivative of a male name (like Robert/Roberta). I also wanted a name that was not male sounding if shortened.
And here I am...
