View Full Version : I Told My Wife

OK, I told her twenty years ago, but with the rash of reveals and attempted reveals, I thought I'd share. My plan is to go out, probably in San Francisco when we are there for a weekend. Well, I told my wife and she wasn't just accepting, she was thrilled and can't wait. She wasn't quite sure what I meant and wondered if she was invited along and where I wanted to go. She thought I might want to go out alone to a bar:straightface: Uh, no.

My plan is to walk around Golden Gate park, maybe go down to the beaches, walk along the waterfront near the Presidio, maybe get lunch or something. This is my immediate goal. As I've stated before, this is more a hobby for me rather than a lifestyle. We'll see how it goes and how I feel and maybe I'll do more, go to a gathering, whatever.

Marlene,
Do what you intend but if your wife starts to turn, back off.
It sounds like a good idea at the time but if something looks out of place the situation can turn sour.
Whhere you are going is just fine. Great on a sunny day.
I like walking across the bridge to Sausalito.
Don't wait for a bus to Sausalito on the other side they never seem to come.

If you are going within the next month or so then the beaches in San Francisco will probably still be fairly cool and breezy, possibly misty as well. They just don't seem to warm up at all quickly, at least not any time I have visited (which has included mid June and early August amongst other times.) The Presido itself is likely to be notably better than the beaches. But June plus a wind coming across the water can make the beaches unpleasant to be near unless you are dressed for it (e.g., windbreaker, full length pants or skirts, shoes that can get damp)

If you like coastal waters, then I recommend taking the drive up to Jenner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenner,_California) where the Russian River meets the Pacific. At that time of year it is fairly likely there will be harbour seals there, with good views of them -- you aren't right beside them there, but they aren't far off. Jenner is about 80 miles north of SF. I love going to that cove.

Sandra's right, as Mark Twain once said "The coldest winter I ever felt was the summer I spent in San Francisco" or something like that. Take a cute sweater for that walk along the beach. While I haven't been in Jenner in many years I'm sure it's still as pretty a place as ever.

I've been in San Francisco over Memorial Day before. We were staying in San Jose (Sharks Game) and it was 90 degrees. But over on the peninsula it was spitting snow! From Oakland, where it was sunny and warm, you could look across the bay and San Francisco was enveloped in dark clouds. We took the kids one August and stayed in Tiburon. We couldn't see the city most of the time because of the fog. It was like 65 degees and back home it was 100. We still went swimming in the pool and were the only ones. I'm not sure when we are going, we've got too many other trips planned first, probably next spring. Plenty of time to plan, buy clothes, find the right outfit, etc.

My wife is very supportive. We talked about this years ago and when i revealed my new plan, she was excited. She wants me to do it. I plan to have her tag along, rather just spend the day with me like normal, to take pictures and be a second pair of eyes. I used to be terrified of going out and being outed but anymore, I just don't care. A lot of things have happened in our lives, good and bad, that has made each of us eager to push the boundaries. This is just one of the latest. We're not getting any younger.

"If ever you are going .. To San Francisco .. Be sure to wear .. Some flowers in your hair .."

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! You'll freeze your tush off! Wear layers! Remember what Mark Twain said: "The coldest winter I spent was a July in San Francisco!" (Actually, he never did say it, but trust me, he wouldn't have been wrong by much!)

Walking in Golden Gate Park and the Presidio hills and waterfront will be wonderful. Check out the newly built California Academy of Science and de Young Museum. Mostly natives enjoying my town then. The beach, except for two days a year, will be windy and cool. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SWIM as the rip is ferocious. The sand is extremely fine and difficult to walk on and will test the conditioning of your calves. If you head to Baker Beach you'll need to put up with the nude guys hitting on each other.

Stay away from Pier 39 as only visitors go there. Try to get in a Giants game (en femme, we don't give a damn) and it is one of the most beautiful and fan friendly places you'll find.

If you have not chosen a place to stay yet, San Francisco has a lot of boutique hotels around Union Square that are half the price of the upscale places and just as comfortable. I personally like the Handlery next to the theaters and across the street from the St. Francis.

Enjoy one of the best towns anywhere.

We might just end the day at Baker Beach, get nude and join the men, (enjoying the beach not hitting on other men).

We were considering the Argonaut down by the wharf. We enjoy that area and it's right next to the cable car terminal so catching a ride to Chinatown will be easy. Union Square is another option we've considered. We'll be taking our car so we can stay anywhere and we've been to the city enough to know our way around. I was thinking something like the Academy of Science or a museum. Great minds think alike. I want to do stuff, not just walk around. Eat lunch, visit an attraction, wander the Tea Gardens, go shopping. I'm really looking forward to it. Wish we could go sooner but we've got at least four trips planned through next March.
