I just wanted to wish all of our fabulous veterans a happy Memorial Day. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Without you we would not enjoy the freedoms we have, crossdressing among so many others. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Being a veteran myself of the Vietnam war, I always felt that I could do no less in service than those who went before me. :)

As a veteran, i thank you. It was truly my honor to serve. Getting out of the military, what i call the family business, was the hardest decision i've ever made but given my lifestyle, it was one that i couldn't live with any longer.

I served three years, and I agree

I volunteered for a term in the services and did not see active service although I was posted overseas.

I still lift my hat to those that did.

Julie Gaum has posted a video tribute in Media. It's well worth viewing:

Just returned from a Memorial Day service provided by our local cemetery and American Legion post. My daughter always goes with me.

This year, she had a bit different perspective. As the young girl behind the mic told the story of the poppies growing in Flanders fields, my daughter and I recalled passing thru those very fields and the Normandy area on our holiday last year.

It brings tears to my eyes to think of all the young people that have died and continue to die in wars. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost a friend or family member in a conflict. Today, we all remember and think of them. But, u may never forget!

I posted under Sherry's thread "Patriotism.......etc." I'll say it here too! If you have children or a leader in a youth organization, Memorial Day, is a great day to take them to a national cemetery run by the Department of Veterans' Affairs. There is a wealth of information on the grave markers. My wife and I, who both served, go to Tahoma National Cemetery once or twice a year to visit relatives and friends who are interned there. It is remarkable to read the grave markers of those who served in multiple wars. We have had friends who served in World War Two, the Korean War and Viet Nam. It will make the kids appreciative of those who served.

Memorial Day is an observation day for those who have passed away, particularly in service. When Veterans' Day comes in November suggest to your children, if their school is having an observation, that they invite a veteran to the observation. I remember the pride my autistic niece had when she invited her father, a Gulf War vet, and my wife and I to her school's observation.

Thank you for posting, Gretchen! We need to always remember that freedom isn't free - and a lot of veterans have paid for our freedom with their lives, their bodies, their minds, their blood, sweat and tears. Thanks to all of you for your service.

I just wanted to wish all of our fabulous veterans a happy Memorial Day.

I used to work in a cemetery in Massachusetts, and every Memorial Day we placed the flags on the tombstones. My father would point out the graves of American Revolution veterans, many from the Civil War, and also a couple from the Spanish-American War. Of course, there were a lot from WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam…

Next year, 2014, will be the 100 year anniversary of the start of WWI, or the “Great War” as it was known up until 1939. The U.S didn’t enter until April of 1917, of course, but they were definitely OVER THERE. President Wilson presided at the peace talks at Versailles, which led directly to WWII, which then became the Cold War (Korea, Cuba and Vietnam inclusive), and that led to our current state of affairs…

Thanks to the military, I live in Kansas. My sister met an army guy (from Kansas) stationed near Boston on a blind date. They got married, and eventually moved back to Kansas. I visited, fell in love with the place, and, one fine day, I moved myself to the Heartland…
