Ok so my wife and I are thinking about attending the SCC this year in September. I was just wanting to know how many of y'all have attended this event and what y'all think about it. I've only been out dressed one time, at night with my wife and I never really interacted with anyone, so needless to say I'm a little nervous about it.
Thanks

My wife and I have also talked about attending SCC this year. I know she would like to talk with other wives of CDers.
What does everyone think about this? Would SCC be of benefit?

Hi Nikki,

I have never been but am planning to attend next year as a 50th birthday present to myself. I knew a gurl in Columbia (about an hour away) who went and said it's a lot of fun. My old house is less than a mile from the hotel so talk about an extra thrill!

It is expensive though. You have to pay for the conference, a room, food and the excursions out and about. I am going to set aside some of next year's annual bonus and do it up right. Full body wax just before hand, all the outings, lots of shopping and dining, really good mani pedi and the works. For me this will be one and done so I plan to pull out all the stops. I was even thinking about getting a weave so I don't have to worry about wigs.

I hope you and your wife do go and that you have a fabulous time!

I typically go Friday and hang out at the bar to meet old friends and meet new ones.
If you see a girl missing a shoe its probably me....stop in and say hi!

Haven't been to SCC yet, maybe this year. I've been to Esprit in Port Angeles, Wa. twice now. Great fun as long as you're willing to make friends, admire those skillful in the craft, and help those a little who are not. Interaction is the key here. The only time spent in your room is getting dressed and the room parties!

I have been several times before. My first time was in 2010, then 2011 and 2012, and I will be there this year as well. My wife,Snow White on this site went with me in 2010. She had a great time there as well as I did. After my first time there I was hooked for life. Although I had been out of the house a few times at night here in my town, I only went to the drive through to order food. But when I got to SCC for the very first time, I was so nervous to step out of the car. But when I did, all was okay. I made so many friends that I'm still friends with today. I say for anyone going for the first time, don't be shy or nervous. I have found the TG,CD,and TS people are the friendliest people on earth. You will have a great time mingling with other like you and us. I do know that it goes by so fast. And once you get back, you will have withdrawal symptoms from it for a few weeks and will start planning the next year's conference.

My wife and I are going to talk about it more but the more I think about it the more I would like for us to go. Atlanta is not far from home so it makes it more convenient.

I need to say up front I am biased about SCC, being one of the volunteer staff.

The hardest part for CDer that has not been out in public much, or if at all, is the ride down the elevator from your room and the walk across the lobby. SCC has several solutions for that, a First Timer's program, a Big Sisters and Big Brothers program (that is part of the First Timers) and hotel staff that are experienced and comfortable interacting with the trans community. For the spouses, there are private discussion groups for Spouses of MTF and spouses of FTM. If you want observe the environment prior to dressing, the late afternoon starting at 5 PM is a great time to come down to the bar in drab and check the people out, make acquaintances ready to comfort and encourage you and escort you when you are ready to come down dressed.

I can vouch for Randi Franklin, the head of the First Timers program. She still remembers her first time at SCC, and everything she does is with the concern for the first timer. If you want more information, you can contact Randi directly from the SCC Contact Us web page.

I'll be there.
This will be my second time.
It will also be my first time "flying pretty" to Atlanta. .
