Last weekend I went to a garage sale by my work and met some of the best people. The wife told me where the mens clothes were and when I went to the womens she helped me find some of the prettiest dresses. This was after work and I was in drab. The next day I went back (I saw more that day but wasn't sure if the clothes would work for me) and bought more. Not once did I feel judged or beliittled. I was told how much the dress I bought brought out my eyes and how pretty I would look in the clothes I got. Even the husband and I talked. It was sooo great not to feel bad about buying things at a garage sale. I just wanted to share a feel good story and had been meaning to all this week.

That might be a good alternative to the average large Goodwill or other used clothing stores. As a senior man I tend to feel rather conspicuous ambling through the women's sections looking at skirts and blouses where I might be the only male. I worry more about other browsing women taking note than cashiers: "what's that old geezer doing fondling skirts there?". Likely has to do with having a tender skin and being new at the game. Thanks for posting your experience.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were just accepted like that all the time? We can only hope that with more and more of us girls coming out that we will one day not be looked upon in such a negative light. I'm glad you shared your experience, thanks!

People who have Garage sales are very happy that some one is buying.
The do not care what you do with the clothes, Their happy you are buying them

PS: They never sell the Garage, so it is False advertising.

You inspired me. I went to a garage sale, and there was a mink stole there fo $50. So, I asked the seller if it was real mink. He said it was and it would look good on you. He said it in a joking way, so I just ignored his comment. I told him it was kind of expensive just for fun. He told me to make an offer. So, I offered $20, and I'm now the proud owner of, what must be a vintage, mink stole.

I went to a girls night out last night in a private home, and brought the mink stole in for everyone to try on if they wanted. I think the mink was in more pictures than anyone.

On the way from one job site to another I saw a church sale sign. So I decided to take a detour. I picked out a few dresses and was browsing some other stuff when this elderly guy walks up to me and says Sir did you know after 11:00 it will be everything you can fit into a bag for a dollar. I said no I did not know that, it looks like I'll have to stay around for 15 minutes.
I thanked him, and went to go dig through the clothes piles again to find more to fill a bag.
It was only about 5 minutes when they anounced we could go buy our bags and start filling them up. I ended up getting 4 dresses, a pair of silk panties, a pair of denim capris, a lighted make up mirror, a bikini, a long nylon and lace nighty, a sheer lacey chemise, and a few tops. all for a buck.
Not one person judged me for what I was looking at, or buying. Not that I'ver had anyone comment or cause a scene etc In some odd way, it was quite nice that the elderly guy wasn't even bugged out by my dresses and even came up to me to let me know I can get them cheaper if I waited.

Vanessa,
You are obviously handling that situation well, good for you.

Church sales or garage sales are a nice way to look around. I especially like the church ones. The looks on their faces when I tell them I am looking for things for me. Now I don't always do it on purpose or for spite, to get dirty looks. But I just feel safer there than in Walmart. Now if my wife is with me it isn't so bad and most of the time she likes to come along for the sale.
