Just thought I would share an experience I had today. The genie just had to get out of the bottle so I decided I would do a little shopping today. Now, I've shopped enfemme many, many times before but I've never done so this close to home. I did a close shave and applied just my concealer and foundation and walked out the door with one small duffel bag with my necessary items to dress and my trusty lil' black Coach purse. After stopping at a grocery store parking lot to put the finishing touches on my first stop was a GW store that I am very familiar with. This particular GW store is only 6-7 miles from where I work and I go there to look for new items about 2 times a week, but never b4 enfemme. Well, I bit the bullet and shopped there and found a sweet red top that was 75% off! I'm still wondering if they knew who I was! I have no illusions of completely passing 100%, but I do expect to be treated properly.
My next stop was the grocery store where I did my transformation. I browsed a little while before buying a new bottle of eye makeup remover. The cashier didn't bat an eye and was totally professional, even bidding me a nice day. WIN! My last stop before reverting to caterpillar mode was the tanning salon. I've been going to this salon for about 2 weeks now, usually after work when I look somewhat different than I did today! All the girls that work there and the owner have always been very nice to me so I decided I would share Tonya with them today. I walked in and was greeted by a thin dark haired girl that has waited on me many times before. Usually she just types my name in and assigns me a bed. This time she asked for my last name. As she typed it I could see a little light bulb come on above her head and a huge smile spread across her face! When she finished typing it in, she asked me to confirm by using my male name. I said "yeah, that's me! it's my day off! From then on I could tell she was visibly flustered. The poor thing started stuttering a bit before finally telling me which bed to go to. After doing my thing in the big stand up tanning booth I dressed and made my way out. This time she was a little more composed as she bid me a nice day. I gotta work tomorrow and will probably go back in there afterward. I wonder if she will mention it next time I go in there when she is there! I guess only time will tell. Not sure if I will try that again or it was a one time thing. Have any of you ever done something similar with a personal service business?

Ok, after all of that, the question I have is this: Why were you tanning with concealer on? You know there's an SPF rating for it!

I haven't had a similar experience because I haven't tried to pass, or be 100% en femme in any places I go now. But from your pictures, it looks like you're not very far from passing yourself, at least visibly. Pictures say nothing of behavior or voice....

I went to the same nail salon en drab and en femme, but I don't think anyone remembered me. The most conspicuous self outing was when I went to a business meeting last month at an associates office en femme. She said, "this is new", with a smile, and we went on with business.

I have two or three botiques I have tried this on and even when I bought my last ski suit.
I am a professional chicken and do warn them some weeks beforehand.
Each time except one I have had to hint or almost take my wig off before I was recognized.
It is fun doing it that way.

I've done that to people a few times (mostly at parties with ID at the door, but where you can laugh about it). I have this feeling, most people in the world are just flustered because they have a script for how they handle males or females and other people are fascinated because you are different and make their day exciting. But for the ego, its great, its feedback that your are doing well. I think in your case, she thought you were 'the wife' until you told her otherwise...

Good story, Tonya; thanks for sharing. I am usually recognized at Goodwill by the clerks that know me. I say, "How did you know it was me?"

Another time enfemme, I was at a mall and walked up to the counter of a hair salon, and just stood there a moment in my curly blond wig. The girl asked if I " would like a haircut or trim and style." "Not today!" I grinned in my low voice, " I just wanted to give you something to talk about. Does my hair look OK?"

Tonya, a tanning salon?!?! Don't do it. It's a cancer salon.

Generally, I agree with you, Jennifer, but there are some skin conditions that are treated with UV light. In these cases, the benefits outweigh the risks.

I wouldn't visit a tanning salon for anything other than therapeutic reasons and on the recommendation of a medical doctor. Anything else isn't worth the risk.
