Hey,
It looks like I will be stepping out later this week so will probably need to choose a female name to use!
I've not had the need or urge to pick one before as I don't feel like my girl mode is a different personality, but I can't really use my boy name.

When did you start using a female name and how did you choose it?

(For those that don't know Khaleesi is a Game of Thrones reference. I can't really use it or folks will be disappointed by my lack of dragons. Gosh, that sounds geeky.)

I chose my name by using the first syllables of my first and last names "Jo" and "De". The 'Lynn' part I added to soften the sound. I first used it about 10 years ago.

Why don't you just shorten it to khalee (kaylee) that is a nice sounding name.

Or you could pick a name of a old girlfriend or a teacher you liked in school.

I chose Abby about 6-8 years ago. I don't know why it took me so long to choose a girl name. I guess I chose "Abby" because it just sounds like a nice sweet girl to me. What I've been having trouble with is the last name. I've been consider Abby Rhode, as I'm a big Beatles fan. Trouble is, it turns the nice sweet "Abby" name into a porn star name.

Abby, you could always go the Mel Brooks road: Abby Normal ;)

No science in my name choice. It sounds very close to my birth name & therefore when my wife calls to me in public I don't have to think about it. Simple.

I wish I could use Seven of Nine....but it is already taken.

Yes, but then it's so punny that it sounds more like a drag queen name, and from what I've gleaned so far in the short time I've been learning about the CD world, that is a separate crowd and ethos. :/

I thought about it for a while, for years I used Teresa, but I like it, but didn't feel just right, I decided on Stacy, it sound sexy, and free spired girl. good luck, I did like the Kaylee, it sound like a sweet pretty girl name, hugs girl.,

I didn't start using a female name until I started dressing again earlier this year. My mom told me if I'd been a girl, my name would have been Jennifer. Which was a very popular name in the mid-70's if the number of Jennifers I went to school with was any indication. My actual male name is pretty common too, but not quite so bad.

Khaleesi, there's a whole sticky thread (http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?174762-Your-Female-Name) about our femme names and how we picked them, you might look there for lots of details.

Shortening yours to "Kaylee" brings to mind the cute redheaded mechanic aboard the Serenity, played by Jewel Staite on Firefly. And if you spell it slightly differently, as "Kayleigh (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dphpDdfZUGw)," it was the best-known single released by prog-rockers Marillion (on the Misplaced Childhood album).

Me? I think the earliest female name I thought of for myself was "Suzanne." Then, for awhile, I respelled and feminized my middle name as "Jaymie." But then I learned from my mother that she would have named me "Amy Gale" had I been born a girl. She's pleased that I've given those names a home at last.

Thank you Amy for pointing that out. So let's keep this thread as a help suggesting names for the OP and not discuss how others chose their name

I suggest choosing a name that starts with the same letter as you male name... Id and cards will look better, wish I did that...

Sadly 'Kayleigh' is the name of my ex gf's sister who lives down the road from me and I'm still friends with!

I think my favourite at the moment is 'Isabella', I'm a bit of a history nerd and read a book recently about Isabella of Spain. I also think it suits my dark hair.
Tried discussing this with GG friend, but as usual it just descended into bad puns...

I've had a female name for ages, I don't even remember. Choose a name that's meaningful to you. Just look around, options abound (it rhymed :P)... have fun!

Many of us have names that are similar to female names (Bob= Bobbie, Jo=Josie, Bill=Billie, etc.) so that's one possibility. Do this with your first name or middle name. You'll want a last name also so there are many possibilities. I suggest putting a lot of thought into this as your name will be with you a long time.

When I reached that wonderful moment of self acceptance, I knew I needed a feminine name. This may sound crazy, but I decided to listen to my feminine soul until I heard a name. And then, in a whisper I heard:. . . "Norah".

since this is staying with the same subject as the sticky I am closing it. Refer to the sticky on your female name
