View Full Version : NOT so wild about heels

My apologies to Wildaboutheels, Freddy’s like-minded yet misunderstood unofficial friend...
No, I’m not wild about heels, in fact I neither own any, nor have I ever owned any. They simply don’t interest me, and they do not represent first contact, or the curious portal I entered on the way to the wonderful world of crossdressing. I wear flats. Always have. Always will...
Lately I’m wondering WHY I’m not nuts about heels. I mean, what happened? :idontknow:
Well, they seem rather impractical to me, for one thing. Also, I get dizzy VERY easily. Under what circumstances would I wish to be teetering a few inches higher, subject to motion sickness, unstable, and restricted in my movements? I’m tall enough, thanks, tall for a woman my age...
The outfits I wear, which make me look something like a conservative schoolmarm, do not require me to show much leg, OK? There’s no need to make the back of my legs (or higher) look a certain way, to attract people I do not wish to attract. Also, I don’t want to attract any attention as I crossdress within the “zone” I have created, so heels, with their click-clack chatter echoing off of any nearby structure, would certainly defeat the purpose. I AM a very quiet girl, believe me...
I once saw a woman lose one of her heels when she walked over a metal grate in Boston – it just ripped the heel right off the shoe, and the poor woman was left hobbling around, helpless. Heels often look like spiked weapons to me – I can’t seem to forget that scene early in the film Robocop 2, when the two prostitutes cruelly blind a man with their heels. Also, the insistence that women wear heels in porno films, hard or soft, even when they’re wearing nothing else, has (I think) had a real negative effect on me. I understand you may want to make the feet, as well as the legs, look as good as possible on-screen (in the eyes of whoever is making the film), but wearing heels in bed is a little ridiculous, isn’t it?
On the other hand, flats (to me) always look elegant, adorable, and comfortable. When I began to crossdress I knew what I wanted to wear, and, although I’m not a shoe fetishist by any stretch of the imagination, I do enjoy NOT wearing heels. I kick up my heels often, feeling merry as I can be, but my heels are LOW and barely noticeable, part of my chosen anti-sexy presentation...
I know many MtF crossdressers LOVE heels. To each his (or her) own. Are you wild about heels?

Frederique, you are one silly girl indeed. You're not the first CD I've met who doesn't wear heels. I don't understand the other one either! I congratulate you on your ability to make a well written stand against heels for yourself. I'd purge everything and take up model airplanes if I couldn't wear heels. I'm just hoping to get 10 more years on heels before I'm forced to give them up. I'm getting a little old for this you know.

In regards to heels, I see myself as a contradiction. Love em and hate them. Love the way they look, hate the way they feel. Love how I can't help but walk in a certain way while wearing them, but hate how painful over time (which can be minutes) that can be. I've searched high and low for comfortable shoes - spent more money on a pair under the advice that the better they are made, the more comfortable they will feel, but the more they will cost. Doing all the "tricks" - starting off low, to get used to them, to then thinking - bugger it - start off high and work my way down. Trying stilletto, to block heels, to wedges. Have to say, for obvious reasons, the wedges are usually the best (of a bad bunch), but even then I've had my ankles buckle, twist and turn, unexpectedly (and usually when there's a lot of people about to laugh at me).
I've watched women in sky-high heels walk without problem. Not believing that such women are not in pain. Maybe they are, maybe not. Adjustment - getting used to them - knowing how to mask the pain, maybe that's the trick. God knows I've tried. Practiced. And while I still wear them, never has there felt as much relief as when I get home and can kick them off my feet.
I'm thinking of starting a petition. A petition that results in the concrete pavements/sidewalks being replaced by soft, cushioned walkways. With absolutely NO grills in sight. Obviously it'll never happen (the petition that is - I'm just being silly (even in mentioning it)), but still, I go out shopping and can't resist buying a new pair. I guess I'm just silly really! :)

I don't wear heels except for special occasions, such as the Christmas show at the club. Normally when I go to the club to dance. I wear boots or if I'm wearing pumps, the heels are no more than 1 1/2 inches. The reason is if I'm going to be dancing 3-4 hours, I don't want my backside going up into my back. The toes in my stockings take a pounding as it is.:heehee::)

I love heels--the way they feel, the way I walk in them, the way they make my legs look. In fact, I just got a new pair this week. Some outfits to me just don't look right with flats--think lbd. Walking in them is not a problem--lots of practice.
On the other hand, I also love ballet flats--cute, adorable with skirts, shorts, capris, etc., and comfortable. Yes, I love heels, but I'd guess 75 percent of the time I'm dressed, I'm in flats.

I've always liked what is, or was, called the "southwestern look", a moderately long colorful loose skirt and low heeled soft leather boots. Perhaps some Navajo jewelry around the waist and a 'peasant' blouse to complete what to me looks like a wonderfully feminine presentation.

I do agree. Most of my skirts are long and loose, my heels vary but are never more than three inches and I wear Navajo pawn (if I can afford it). I live for half the year in the Four Corners of the US and love that 'SW easy' look. I'll go drap for the Cowboy Gather here next month but my dear wife will dress SW Colorado and look great. Frederique - I was so sad to read your admission about heels and flats. I don't think that flats disease, known as flatcousis, is contagious or fatal. But I believe it to be treatable. Maybe you could see a shoe therapist. Just don't give up. There are worse conditions a crossdresser could have - like the dreaded pantsitis, which is the preference to wear pants. Or braphobia.

Frederique - Like everything else, your parents are most likely to blame if you are not nuts about high heels. Parents are always acceptable to blame. Also, maybe it could be your education. Your teachers might have provided an anti-heel bias within your learning which you are not aware of. Maybe religion. Maybe it could be a vitamin deficiency. Just don't worry - there are many of us who will help and support you.

Are you wild about heels? :
Exactly
Yes I am!!
I am so very thankful I do not have a "dress code for Crossdressers" that I have to live by!! Even though I am, as some would say, too tall to wear heels. Heels slow my gait which is not a bad thing for me. I do not need, or want, to run while dressed and I have found most of my heels to be very comfortable.

OK, I confess... for me, crossdressing without heels would be sort of a letdown... pun intended!
At six feet, I'm already kinda tall. I've noticed most guys are shorter, and even more women. Even so, I absolutely won't wear anything anything less than 2 1/2" heels. I believe they help my posture, keeping my steps shorter, my shoulders back, and my head up.
I just recently bought my first pair of cowboy boots. As a guy, just to look more stylish. My GF liked 'em, as did the saleswoman, who commented, " For a guy in his first pair of boots, you can sure walk in heels!"
I had to refrain from telling her that this wasn't my first rodeo, and that my usual heels had a lot thinner heel than the cowboy boots! :heehee:

Heels slow my gait which is not a bad thing for me. I do not need, or want, to run while dressed and I have found most of my heels to be very comfortable.
I only have a couple pairs of shoes at this point. One pair of pumps and one pair of strappy things with a much thinner although shorter heel. It is much easier to walk appropriately in that narrower heel.

At 5'14" I thought that heels were my enemy. I stuck to flats for everything but CD group events.
One time I was feeling a bit frisky, so I wore some wedges on a mainstream outing. I was surprised that I didn't seem to attract any more attention than usual and perhaps even a bit less. Since then I've worn modest wedges on several mainstream outings that didn't involve a lot of walking. Perhaps people see my height, look at my feet, and then decide that the heel are the cause without doing the math! :)

I love heels as much as anyone else in these pages but at the same time, I can be practical. I adore being able to glide about in a nimble manner in flat sandals or ballet flats with that extra bit of "blendability" that comes with being no taller than my 5'9".

You're letting your logical, practical side take over. But they sent you a world that could be so sensible, respectable, responsible, a vegetable.
I've never been a big fan of heels either. I accept them as formal wear for a girl, and that's pretty much it.

My feet are size 12EEEE so finding femme shoes that fit and look nice id an ordeal, even on line. But I do have a couple pairs I found at Payless and I love them more every time I put them on. At 6ft2 in stockings, I don't need the extra height, but I now see I walk more upright and with smaller steps, even when I am back in my boy shoes. My black 3" high booties and my 2" slides make my feet look just that much smaller, even daintier, if that's possible. On the other hand, my 3" pumps are a disappointment, as they feel like they want to fall apart. So I keep looking.

Well, I love my heels, but do wear flats now and the. Okay, I wore flats on an outing once. I doubt I'd ever really dress if it wasn't for 4 inch heels. Most are NOT COMFORTABLE, but a few of them are I have 4 pair that are 6 inches, but would never wear them out. I usually wear skirtsuits, and 3 to 4 inch heels look the best with suits. In MHO. Just a preference, really. Wear what you enjoy and be happy.

First of all nice pic Freddy, looks like maybe you were dressed for the festival. Festival time in Lindsborg is a lot of fun I regret to say its been a long long time since I've been there.
As for I do like my heels, for me they make me feel more feminine but then it also depends on my mood. If I'm going to be cooking or doing housework while dressed I much prefer flats. Although I'm a poor girl, with big feet, and I don't have many shoes.

Personally, it's a matter of taste. There's no law that says you have to rush out and buy 7" heels to totter around in. In the end it's how comfortable you feel in the footwear you choose. I have a couple pair of flats that I like to wear if I'm going to be running around all day, I have heels in heights ranging from 2" to 4". The 4" I usually wear for my fetish photo shoots. But my 2" heels, I can walk in them all day and feel just fine. But no matter what heel height, my feet are going to be sore if I'm on my feet all day regardless. My feet can get sore even when I'm in guy mode wearing sneakers, LOL!

I thought heels were the only way to go until heels met the soft ground of my back yard. Nothing like sinking into the soft turf. Heels for in the home. Flats for walking in the turf. Also, a nice pair of flats with a silent sole are better for strolling along residential sidewalks in the quiet evening. As a not so passable CD-er heels tend to attract unwanted attention.

If I could buy men's shoes with heels I'd wear them every day. However, I generally prefer my fem heels to be very high and a bit too tite. All hi heels help my posture. I can dance in my ladies heels all nite. Men's flat shoes? Maybe 20 minutes!
Now for me, it's undies! Couldn't care less what kind I'm wearing. Unless it's for "undies showing" lingerie pics! For just those instances I have bags full of them!

I choose my heal height based on the outfit that I am wearing. Most clothes look best with a certain height of shoe, form flats to 4 inch heels. The exception for me would be jeans and then it depends on the look that I am after. Really like wearing jeans with boots that have a two to three inch heel for a dressy look, but flats or runners for a casual look.

I personally believe that each girl here should wear whatever makes her comfortable. We worry so much about blending and not sticking out that we alter our wardrobe from what we want to wear to what we think we should wear just because everyone else wears it.
Hey, if you prefer flats, then by god, wear your flats. I don't think there is anything wrong with not liking heels and you seem to have solid reasons why you personally don't like them. Like you said, to each their own :D
For me, yes, I am wild about heels. I love everything about them. From the moment my foot slides into them to the click clack of them bouncing off the walls lol For a girl that seldom goes out, you would think that one or two pairs would be enough but no, I just passed pair 20 and still look for new ones every time I am out shopping ;) Do I understand why I love heels so much? no, but then again, there's alot about "this" that I don't understand ;)

Another interesting thread I've stumbled on today. You don't need to wear high heels if you don't want to for any reason and you can still be a girl :) Like long hair and big bust, high heels are one of the most obvious differences between a man and a woman so I can see why they are a necessity for most and that's fine of course too. Personally for me, I wear them for a few reasons. One is cause I like to always be learning something, learning how to walk in them, I also like how they make my legs look taller and slender, and lastly the boys love them (& girls), which I try my best to make happy.
Frédérique, you can try wearing low kitten heels maybe something like this? http://i572.photobucket.com/albums/ss161/jpstyle4u/shoes4/IMG_5360_zps1c3178f1.jpg?t=1372606336

Freddie. That woman you saw break off her heel on a metal grate in Boston might have been my ex-wife. She must have done it a half dozen times. I was with her once when she did it, and she tried to hobble on one heel and one flat. I told her to give me the remaining heel, and I broke it off so she had two flats and could walk.
When it comes to wearing heels I fall in the grey area between you and the heel fanatics. I love the 1.5 to 2 inch lift you get with midrange heels. Just enough lift without being tortured by the 5 inch beasts. (I had two pairs of those and they went to Goodwill after weeks of trying to walk in them).

I'm completely on board with gorgeous, lovely heels. Oh.....and no offense.....none at all, my dear Freddy........but I hate flats!
I assumed that! Good on YOU!!! I, however, am a schoolgirl restricted by a self-imposed dress code, so I must obey my chosen fetishes...
You don't ever go to the "promised land" while dressed.
I ONLY dress to go to the Promised Land, in fact I promised it to myself one fine day, making things up as I went along...
That’s another good topic, Wild – what is one’s “Promised Land” of crossdressing?
Now for me, it's undies!
Let’s see, what’s my fetish? Probably pleated skirts. I began with that, and then gradually worked my way through all sorts of femme stuff, including the glorious undies. One thing led to another. I used to get all dressed up and play as a girl on the farm where I once lived – it was a very marshy place, not good ground for heels, so I never really considered them. You had to be there. Over time, Mary-Janes, or variations thereof, became a secondary fetish of mine...
Love heals but rarely wear them. I prefer to blend so I like to not emphasize height. That plus osteoporosis which means a misstep could easily lead to a broken bone. Have you ever looked at the feet of older women to see what a lifetime of wearing heels has done to their tootsies!

I would strongly recommend to start dancing around the house in them and keep on dancing as you build up. I have perfected dancing in 4" heels. I'm afraid that is the most for me:heehee:. Any higher and I'll need to strap on a parachute. Good Luck, cupcake.

Freddy, I'm very impressed you wear flats!
For me heels seem to be important because:
1) I wear flats as a guy and I try desparately to separate my genders as much as possible, being bigendered.
2) Heels have shown to be positive for the health of my back. My lower back injury is directly helped by even just standing in heels!
3) Serious heels force my body to respond without thought to change the way I move, the perception being that the movement is more feminine.
Leaving out #2, I suddenly feel that heels are a crutch to my feminine presentation. Maybe we should all be more that a little jealous that you are quite happy without the crutch...hmmmm. :)

Of the loads of shoes I have, about 1/4 are heels of some kind. But, I'm with you Freddy. I'd rather be in scrunch flats any day. Like anyone else I like to dress "up" sometimes. That's when the heels come out. But most days I'm like most of my gg friends. Comfy.
By the way, these damn Toms are sooo freaking comfortable. Even if they aren't the cutest thing in the world!

I've never found a pair of heels that I could really say felt comfortable.Needless to say, when starting all this I bought them right and left, only selecting them on how wonderful they looked...guess I had to exhaust that avenue.I do think they are incredibly attractive and can greatly affect ones walk, but after forcing the issue for three years,I had to wonder if they were really worth contorting my feet into such an uncomfortable position.
I eventually changed over to heels with some sense of support..a chunkier, lower 2" or 3" heel helps with this and I can handle the slighter angle ok.

For me heels are a sore touchy subject, I would love to be able to wear them more, and for longer periods of time. Unfortunately my ill sized feet Women's 12 on a 5'6" 160 pound frame, along with poor almost non-existent circulation in my feet causes certain problems for me begging with.
A. My foot size causes most types of heels to look closer to boats then actual heels on me. B. Even with the wonderful Pay Less Selection and few options Target has, I've accumulated over the years some of those size 12's are too painful to wear for more than an hour or so. C. More related to the limited Pay Less Selection- If manufacturers and stores seem to have no problem expanding clothing sizes in general, is it too much to do the same with heels at an affordable price and give us big foot girls a selection in actual brick and mortar stores, not just a few websites!!!! Come on Khols, Macy's, Dillards, etc. Basically most clothing store's have a section for Women's Size for clothes indicating there is a substantial market for that, why not the same concept for shoes. D. I will also guess their are a good number of GG's who have large feet (Peggy Hill of King of the Hill Fame) as well, so it can't all just be CD's being the bulk of the large shoe size market place.
Back to the purpose of Freddy's philosophical commentary/editorial on heels. I'm not really a fan of them because my foot size, If I were a size 10 heck even 11, I would be obsessed with them. Since I'm not one of those petit sizes, I look at them as more of a necessary evil to complete a feminine look.
I can’t seem to forget that scene early in the film Robocop 2, when the two prostitutes cruelly blind a man with their heels.
Also Robo Cop 2 was the last great film in that franchise. BOO!!! Thumbs down on that abomination of a re-make that's being made!!! A possible PG-13 Robo Cop?!!!!! Anyone remember Walt Disney like Robo Cop 3 which was PG-13??!!!!

Good on you Frédérique!
This thread is additional proof that gender expression does not come down to two choices or even a spectrum. Instead, it is a myriad of different possibilities and choices, depending on the comfort, desires and internal view of the person.
For me ... I honestly dont know lol. I have tried going shoe shopping (once with my wife, once without) and I didnt a) find something I liked and b) know what I actually liked haha.
This is probably what I am thinking subconsciously:
To me they are just shoes.

Good luck. In other words, don't waste your time...:hmph:
My favorite flats aren't good for walking, that's for sure, but the pain of impracticality is kinda exhilarating. I see it as a kind of delayed penance...

I would love to have some flats or low heels, it i could ever find them in ladies size 15 or 16, at a price i could afford, too. My lowest heels are 2 1/2" and i am six foot eight and a half in those, and about six foot ten, with hair up. I love the sexy look , that high heels create, making the legs look longer, and shapely, but after a half hour, my toes are killing me. But, i am a fool for heels...but would like a have a pair of flats.

Ha ha now that's funny. But they are difficult to learn to walk in at first.

I love heels. I did own a pair of women's tennis shoes that I use to walk on the treadmill with. It was a reason to walk. But heels win. It is great that the styles today are high heels. I think they make my legs look great and my wife agrees. She even helped me pick out my last 4 pair of high heels.

It depends on the heel. I generally like 3-4 inch heels. I've tried to wear 5 inch heels, and honestly I can't even stand in them for more than a minute, and walking in them forget it. Knock an inch off, and it totally changes everything. I can walk comfortably in 3-4 inch heels (albeit only around my living room so far), and love any trendy, sexy, or cute looking 3-4 inch heels. Yes 3.5 and 3.75 inch heels count, and some of my favorite shoes are 3.5 and 3.75 inch boots. In fact I just bought a 3.5 inch mid-calf boots today, and am wearing them right now, and absolutely love them :) I really like boots and open-toe shoes for some reason. Flats are okay. I also don't like pumps because for some reason I feel like I slip easily, making walking in them difficult, or my toes feel scrunched.

Since having a new wooden lounge floor laid I'm banned from wearing my 4" stilettos unless I'm sitting with my feet on the rug so as not to mark the floor. Luckily I have several pairs of low heels, 2.5" or less & not as pointy. They are actually more comfortable & easier to walk in. The floor is a good excuse to more pairs of lower heels !

Ballerinas all the way here. I love the way they look, the way they feel the way they make you walk.

If it must be heels make them cute 1960s kittens.

I love wearing heels, but it is hard to beat a pair of dance/ballet slippers with a split sole for comfort around the house.

I love my flats .. pretty and sooooo comfortable .. they took some finding, too, as I'm a UK size 11 and the specialist tranny retailers almost exclusively sell high heels. I wear my flats around the house even when I'm otherwise in bloke mode.
But I must admit I've recently been thinking about getting some heels, just to see what it's like to wear them, really.
Is the impracticality and restrictiveness of heels (other than as military riding wear) an intrinsic part of their perceived femininity, in the same way as some dresses are really tricky to zip or unzip on one's own .. "can you zip me up, please, Darling" .. the same can go for the fiddly little clips on necklaces, too ?
High heels were adopted by women as part of a fashion for masculine attire, of course .. the girls were and are way ahead of us in crossdressing! :)

Just another example of "we're all different" and we all find different things flattering. Not all dressers are cut from the same mold, to each their own...I love my heels by the way and all the compliments I get when I wear them.

Flats are wonderful, but many of my long skirts and certainly my pant suit pants are sized to wear with heels- they get all dirty and shredded if worn with flats for too long. Oh poor me, I _have_ to wear heels...
I'm guessing you are relatively tall, say, over 5'10? Taller women stay away from higher heels, more than petite women, in my observations, over a long period of time. So, have you thought of it this way: if you are a bit taller, you are actually being more feminine by not wearing the heels- you are following the patten that the majority of (taller) women seem to take?
The occasional times I venture out dressed, my heels are flat to low-mid. I'm around 5'8" (depending on local gravity), I think I fit in better, and were I truly worried about passing, I would think this would help- not calling attention to myself. But were I to wear heels out- I promise you I would have a pair of flats tucked into my bad should I break a heel or the shoes started hurting too much.
At home, I wear flats with casual stuff mostly, but a few elegant or 'holiday' outfits seem to work better with flats than heels. I wear heels with casual stuff less often as it seems to me I am not matching something correctly.
But I do love high heels (more so with boots than shoes actually), 3 of the last 5 pair of shoes I purchased had heels over 4", and that does not count the platform height (1/2 to 1 inch)... I like the way it feels to have to balance on the shoes- the effect is a modicum of restriction on movement- walking, reaching, even sitting. Heels feel more like a restriction whereas boots are more of a light "bondage" feel: this adds to my feeling of femininity as it is something that most women experience, and I get to share that feeling as well.

I have some 5" black "Pleaser" stilettos which make me feel vulnerable and its fun learning to walk in them (maybe downstairs disagrees). This can be scary good or bad but either way there is no quick exit so they only get used in public when I have the bike with me or whilst near the car. Shopping mall trips and in the park its flat unisex street trainers for me.

I'm luckily quite short (160cm or 5'2") so can easily get away with heels. But I don't like ridiculously high heels; 3" or so is just fine. I also can't walk around in them for too long without feeling very uncomfortable.
I currently own only two pairs of women's shoes and they both have high heels. I think I need to invest in a pair of flats for casual days.

I am the total opposite I love heels , they are my biggest motivator for dressing in the first place. If I'm going out enfemm I'm in the highest heels possible ( I own nothing under 4") no matter how much walking is involved. I will gladly tend to my wounded blistered feet afterwards. But that my preference. If you like flats more power to you .cding is all about what makes you feel feminine. Just like with real girls we are have different tastes.

Just as we vary the clothes we like to wear or feel comfortable wearing, so can we vary the shoes. It depends how you dress. Certainly with a short skirt and tight top or a cocktail dress, some heels are going to look better than flats. But if you're going a schoolgirl look you can be practical (i.e. what a school would allow girls to wear!) and wear flats, or go for the naughty look with a heel of any height, though the maryjane style probably works best.
Properly sized high heels can be comfortable to wear and "right" for most outfits, and flats have their place too. But by virtue of being a crossdresser, you are already expressing yourself the way you see fit. So there is no right nor wrong here... do what is best for YOU.
Karen :)

I must say, having been 'in the closet' for about six years, flats are still my 'go to' choice.. I had a shoe wardrobe which consisted of both flats and heels before I married my wife and parted with them (which explains why I've been in the closet)... But I now do own two pair of heels again, which can easily be described as 'sensible shoes' - they're from Naturalizer, and are known as "Deino", which have a 2-1/4 inch heel..
I look to wear them out while I'm either shopping or running errands soon -- let's just say that I'll look like the bank teller who is "shopping while on her lunch break".

heels look great and sexy and are really "girlie" (as opposed to manly), but I would much rather wear a comfy pair of ballet flats or some strappy flat sandals. my ex-wife used to come home from a day at the office barefoot carrying her heels in her hands and complaining about how "she had to wear heels and it was not fair". fair/schmair.....they are great looking but not all that comfortable.

I agree with Lynn Marie....what she said !

When wearing Heels, you don't do the things you would normally do in your sneakers. You would just have too sit there and look pretty and smile.:D
And the problem with that is...?? :heehee:

Sorry I adore high heels. OK, maybe it's a form of madness (I'm 6'1" and love wearing 3+ inch heels and I don't think I'm any sort of exhibitionist) but I wouldn't feel right in flats!
Each to their own though!

high heels are the reason im here, started with my aunties, first low and worked my way up, have many with a concealed platform 6", like wearing a 4.5", don't go out yet so don't need a "practical shoe" yet. heck i do housework in them and they dress up any outfit, was actually looking for some flats to dress down a little and thought better of it, will get when i need.
bart simpson actually taught me how to walk in them, was helping lisa for a beauty pageant, "heel toe, heel toe, heel toe, heel toe"
hmmm... bart is a CD ?!
