View Full Version : Cat calls

Ok, I had something happen to me earlier today that has me with mixed feelings.
I had just left work and I was riding my bicycle through an intersection right there as I left the parking lot where I work.
As I crossed I noticed an SUV with about four men in it.
When I passed in front of the vehicle, the driver honked the horn and they started cat calling at me out the windows.
Now here is why I have mixed feelings.
Number one, I took the situation as a possible complement.
But, I haven't shaved my face in a few days, I had no make up on, and I wasn't wearing anything girly at all and it was literally Noon.
I never acknowledged them because I was much more concerned with the traffic that was in motion around me than I was with someone that was just waiting for their turn signal.
So I didn't turn to show them my stubble or use my natural voice.
I also decided not to destroy the apparent image that they thought they were seeing. Mainly because a 200 pound person on a bicycle doesn't stand a chance against an SUV weighing a few thousand pounds. It was obvious physics.
With their windows down, I could also hear the crude conversations between some of them.
Now for the truly frightening thoughts.
Either all of them need a serious eye exam or they all had been drinking far too early in the day before the weekend and they need to be off the road for everyone's safety.
I thought this entire situation was just so funny, I had to share this.
Love and Lots of Hugs,

Hi Liz
As we all know, there are those who are buffoons, especially buffoons w/ no balls, when in front of their friends. Peer pressure, will always get the weak minded into doing something that they know is not right. Unfortunately , that is the case with a lot of people and not just men. I wouldn't even worry about it. I would just take it as a compliment on your looks.

Elizabeth:
I don't know what they said to you, but I do know that a disproportionate number of drivers of SUVs and pickups have it in for cyclists for some reason. I've had more than a few close calls with aggressive drivers. Could they have been on your case because you were on a bike?

Elizabeth, you have to be lookin' good for those T-poisoned clowns to hoot out the window while you're in drab. I think that speaks to their tenuous hold on their "masculinity." I'll bet they all planned to start growing out their facial hair on the spot, just to be sure. Good for you hun, Ann

I had a similar situation about a week ago. I had just left work (driving). There are several lights close together on the road in front of work and gets backed up easily. I had turned out of the parking lot waiting for the next light when a pick up with three boys in it (late teens, early twenties maybe) pulled up in the opposite direction. I was holding my head with my chin in my hand while resting my arm on the door staring into space. When I focused on the truck for a second, one of the boys made a hand sign meaning I should call him and then another said I should take off my sunglasses so he could see my face better. I just continued to look like I was staring blankly. I ignored them until the light changed and we both went our separate ways. I also had a couple days beard growth and looked pretty beat after a long hard sweaty day at work. I'm not sure what they thought they saw but I sure know I wasn't exactly feeling very pretty just then. I guess you just never know what people think.

SUV and pickup trucks are often called "Penis extensions" for a reason.

Erica, lets just say that the snippet of conversation I overheard was very crudely sexual about tapping that something. I have also had my fair share of run ins with the drivers around here. Around here my experiences with the SUV/Truck crowd has been more positive than negative. I get more flack from those that just don't understand that I do pay the same taxes they do and I do have just as much right as they do to the road.
Now everyone; I am taking it as an obvious complement and I am rather proud of what assets I do have, especially my backside. I know I do have a nice backside because I have been cycling to and from work off and on, mostly on, for the last eleven years.
I have been epilating my legs lately and my wife has gotten over her jealousy of them and how fastidious I am with them.
I just couldn't figure out what they saw. I wasn't wearing anything tight, as a matter of fact my shorts were camo BDU cutoffs that go almost to my knees.
I will admit that I do have some breast growth, up to a D cup that looks like a large B on my 40" chest, even though I'm not on hormones yet. I wonder if a breeze I hadn't noticed pressed my very loose t-shirt against my chest and they noticed that I wasn't wearing a bra.
There will always be a part of me that will wonder what was going through their tiny little minds and exactly what did they see at that moment.

firstly some people are so small minded, and secondly it shows how people dont understand / ignorant. theres too much of this kind of behaviour and all it does it strengthern our resolve to change the way people think and hold each other stronger. we also have to think that people dont understand and that they themselves are not always to blame because of the way sociaty is "educated" and expected how to act on such things. i am not saying what they did is right, but unless the neighbourhoods we live in change individuals wont change.
