I (Diane) applied for a job today. I work full time as a graphic designer. Nobody there knows about Diane. A new Guitar Center opened in home town in February. Since, I have done lots of research on guitars and amps. I bought my first 2 guitars, a Ibanez Bass, and a Ibanez lead. My male counterpart visits the store regularly checking out new products. He has helped make sales by telling what he knows about products. Most of the sales people I have talked to do not know what they sell. My wife has been telling me I should get a part time job there. So, I gave it some thought, and I (Diane) would love to work there. So I applied.

It will be an interesting experience, for sure. Since you're so familiar with the store, does anyone there who might be hiring know you by name and/or know about Diane? Or is this a blind application, so to speak?

When I filled out the "prescreen" on the internet, it asked if I was known by any other name. I put his name. There was a box to check male or female, but there was also a box that asked "I prefer not to answer". Most of the staff knows him. I(Diane) has been in two times, and know one recognized me. I figure the hiring person would have to know because Social Security and legal name. I have not started hormones yet. I have not found anyone to prescribe them. I contacted a endo(not sure on spelling) and I can not call from work, and they are only open the same time I work.

It's a shame if people go to a store named the "Guitar Center" and the sales people don't know guitars. It's a shame that knowing and playing guitars isn't a job requirement.
Long ago and far away there was a very large independent music store where all the sales people were actual working musicians. You got an opinion, but it was an educated one.

I go to Guitar center quite a bit. Most of the sales people are quite knowledgeable about the products in their area. They sell more than guitars, I would love to work there

In the end though, these are sales people. Even knowledgeable ones are going to steer you to the product they make the most commision on.

Problem is if I worked there I would end up owing them money

That would be my problem also. I play the guitar a little but want to learn to play more instruments and that would be bad news because I would be too close to them and buying what I could.

I just wanted to give a update. Diane got a interview for tomorrow, at Guitar Center, but my wife does not want Diane to take it. I will still go to the interview, but inquire about working as my male self.
