Kinda curious on this for our American ladies and the UK ladies who travel abroad.

Within the UK, all of our SRS surgeons are well within a good travelling distance, guess that comes with living on a small island :) That means if we have complications which our normal GPs are not experienced enough to deal with, we can get help within a reasonable length of time.

I have noticed that in the USA some travel quite a distance to get SRS, including Thailand. What I am curious about is how good your post SRS support is, especially if your GP cannot deal with the issue. Did you have to travel for SRS which would then make it difficult for follow ups?

Can't speak for all, Nigella, but if a Chet or Suporn girl needs revisions, then the surgeon pays for the travel. It's happened that way to several girls I know well. I suspect it's covered by the insurance of those two surgeons.

I live in Montreal, a few kilometres away from Dr. Brassard. I can get to his office by metro (subway).

I saw him a few times post-surgery (infection contracted at home and a busted suture point). I also went back to have him remove some excess skin that was obscuring the clitoris. He also removed a small keloid at the same time. He has always been easily available and more than willing to help. None of these interventions cost me anything. Medical insurance paid for the the operating room and his time was free, even though the touch-ups were the solely needed because of the way my body healed.

For those who don't know, Montreal is 30 minutes away from New York State (Champlain, NY).

My follow up consisted of one appointment with my family doctor who removed some lose hanging sutures that irritated me, and one visit twelve months out from surgery which was more an excuse to go see Frances. I have had zero issues.

I went to Thailand (Dr. Chettawut), with the standard 30 days stay. When deciding on who and where for my surgeries, I thought long and hard about the travel probs. In the end what I learned thru my experience there was that the extra long stay in their care after surgery is very important. They watch you like a hawk for potential probs and jump right on them if needed.

I had some issues, easily resolved there. That is one of the reasons they prefer you stay 21 days past surgery - most issues show up quickly. As for care here, my primary doc has been quite able to take care of anything. Even if there were small surgical issues ( such as granulosis ) a good surgeon can take care of them. Other issues of a vagina could be cared for by a ObGyn -- although I would recommend finding someone with experience with "neo-vagina". If I needed to return it would be more expensive than flying to San Mateo for example ( where Dr. Bowers works ). But right now, my flight there would be around $500, and to Bangkok around $1600. However, Dr. Chettawut would do any needed work for free. That is not the case with most US based SRS surgeons. The approx $1100 difference is well below the cost of even a single night in the average US hospital.

When I had questions, and I had many at first, Dr. Chettawut was only a SkyPe call away ( or his staff ) -or- via email. Some friends of mine here have had to wait quite a while to get replies from US based SRS docs to phone inquires about small problems. Others had no probs at all and their docs got right back to them. The best answer for a person seeking this kind of surgery is a balance of many different points, but the travel issues are not as great as they seem.

Thanks for your responses, and Charlene, I hadn't thought about a ObGyn being able to deal with "difficult" post op issues :)

Thanks a lot charleneT, your response had been wonderfull. As someone who is currently looking for srs in thailand, this thread has been extremely valuable.

Yes, it has been a very helpful thread and re-affirming my thoughts that the places to go have SRS done (if I ever should decide to do it) would be with Dr. Brassard in CDN, or with most likely Dr.Chet or one of the other good well respected Thai SRS surgeons.
