Hello
I am sure the questions I have have been covered in some other post, this is really such a caring understanding place. I was wondering just how to approach the medical community about my feeeeeelings...We all know that our condition is not very well received in general but what I was wondering is how to tell/reveal to you doctor or medical professional that I need help. Never mind mind the the people in you life that it could and will affect, how? I have been beside myself trying to figure out how to make myself happy and I just haven't found any answers. I really do think it is within me, myself, my own view of myself. Sorry if I am boring you. Thanks for being here.
Really, thanks for being here.

I would think you would want to start with a therapist first. Going to your GP probably wont help much unless you want them prescribe anti depressants or something for it

Not sure where you live Susan, but many County, some cities and states have public health services, which among other things may be able to direct you to where you want to start. Some places are for low income and some are set up to provide support, which may include the LGBT side of things. Also, if you are near a large university, they often have support services. Even if you are not a student, they still should be able to provide some assistance. Believe me, you are not the first to seek help from them on all this. The other thing would be to Google something like "LGBT Support Services" and see what hits you get. Urnotalone.com will also show support groups where you live if that have registered (joined) the site. It really is surprising how actual support is out there if one only knows where to look. Give it a try and good luck.

I know it is difficult but try to let go of shame, guilt or embarrassment regarding your feelings and talk to a professional. There are thousands of people just like you looking for answers.
I have a list of all the board certified gender therapists in the U.S that follow WPATH so if you want names of therapists in your area PM me with your city and I will send it to you or do a search on Google and it will pop up through another forum that keeps it posted.
Ditto the suggestion to look toward your local university.

here I went to see my doctor and he pointed in in the right direction, a doctor that was more experienced in gender issues and a therapist.

I don't know how to. It is an ongoing struggle for me. Even when there are some in our lives who know, it is still difficult to refrain from being all you can be, whatever that is. I wish you well Susan.

I just decided that if I were to transistion, my family Doctor need to know to. I pay him, which means he works part time for me, Right! He set me up with my endo and the mental health department. scary at first, but no one bit me and if they had I would of fired that Doctor!

I mentioned transition to my GP first. He, of course, was not surprised, as he has only ever seen me en femme. He knew just the endo to refer me to. It was almost easy. Not bad for a small town.
