I have noticed after surfing many girls websites that there is an apparent difference in the way denim is worn here and across the pond in the UK. Denim here is a very casual look while in the UK denim is dressed up much more. The difference is most obvious in the way denim skirts are worn. Denim skirts in North America are worn very casually, usually with bare legs and casual shoes, like flats or sandals, while in the UK denim skirts seem to be dressed up with pretty hosiery and high heels or boots. Just an observation and I'll throw this out for discussion. Would love to hear from our UK sisters on this.

Hi Alannah, I think it's that maybe denim unlike any other skirt can be just that, casual or dressed up, and for this time of year over here girl, you need the tights. I love to wear a nice slip with all my skirts, even though I've read that a denim skirt is one of the reasions slips are in decline, but a slip will always give a better line, and can help keep the chill out.
But as with all dressing, it just depends on the look you want for where you are.

Allanah,
I was thinking it could be a weather thing.
I'm wearing my blue denim mini just now and if I was outside without my patterned tights and boots my legs would be the same colour as my skirt!
But as there are many areas of North America that are as cold (and colder) than Scotland it can't be that.
So I don't know, (personal preference?).

Love Angela XX

Could be something other than just the fabric. Americans just tend to dress rather shabbily. When I was in Europe, I don't remember seeing people as badly dressed as I see here in the US. When one is overseas, one can pick out the Americans by their clothes. That is not a complement.

I run a small company. If I ran a big or huge company, I probably would institute a dress code. I am tired of the unkempt look. Of course, since I work at my clients' offices, I don't get a say in what people wear.

Warm regards,
Christina Nicole

Hmmm--That explains a peculear thing I noticed about UK women when I took a trip to Egypt via London a few years back. I found that i could always pick out the british women in the crowds, by their odd (to me) fashion of wearing blue jeans, while otherwise being dressed up to the nines with heels, expensive tops and makeup etc.

The mixture of casual/dressy seemed a bit jarring to me. So apparently Denim is seen as somewhat of a dressy, luxury item in the UK. where HERE in the US, it is sort of a common place, generic , "scruffy" fabric.---The cheap , tough cloth of the working man(or woman)---

I wonder if THAT is a factor, being that UK is a quasi socialist county.--Socialists tend to stress "The worker" in their philosophy--making denim the chic thing to wear?---just speculating.
