Well been reading hear and was thinking (scary I know). But what is your excuse or answer when someone ask why you are dressed as a woman. Some one you know or some one you don't and for any time of the year. Since halloween is the only time I have been out I tell people.
Well me and my friends are gowing out and all meeting up at a party. We have a bet gowing to see who has the best costume. We have to find/recognize each other at the party and the last one found will win the bet.
That has worked for me.

I have used these with some success.

I dressed in the dark
Laundry day
I went to a hypnotist to quit smoking, and he had a weird sense of humour
My dog ate my pants
Didn't you know Armenian Halloween is May 22?
I feel more comfortable, and it better jives with my inner sensibilities.

You might turn around and ask them if it matters or ask why they want to know, especially if it's a stranger.

For friends or family, you might as well tell them the truth. The "truth" can be different for each of us so tell them your truth.

I agree with Kate, I don't make excuses, but then I don't consider myself a cross dresser any more either, so my view might be different than most. If some one asks, I just tell them it's so that my outside can match the way I feel on the inside.

But what is your excuse or answer when someone ask why you are dressed as a woman.

I've never needed to give an answer to that question so far, but I guess my answer would be: "Because it's fun" or "Because I like it."

I'm content keeping my business to myself but If I were caught out I wouldn't have one. Most people don't make excuses for why they smoke, watch porn or drink all the alcoholic crap that does nothing but rot their liver so I don't see why I should have to provide an excuse for what I do for enjoyment.

Same sentiment!

Wonderful answer and the same I use.

The question doesn't come up much these days. When it did, I would ask them "Why are you wearing what you're wearing?".
Almost any answer they gave for wearing what they were wearing was a good enough for "That's why I'm wearing what I'm wearing!".

When they ask, "Aren't you a guy?", I respond with "Only between the legs, between the ears, it's all girl".

When they say "Takes balls to wear an outfit like that!" - usually something with a shorter skirt and heels, I respond with
"No it takes COURAGE, and it take a lot of COURAGE for women to dress this nicely too".

In general, I try not to give too much information up front. If they really want to know, we can sit down and have a 30-40 minute heart to heart, where I can answer each question in more detail. Often, after about 15-20 minutes, they will tell me their "little secret" - usually that they like to dress up too. They are the ones I have such compassion for. I know how lonely it can be when you feel like you can't tell anyone about something that gives you so much pleasure and satisfaction. I've even had a few ask if we could go out together as two girls. I confirm that this is not a "date" involving anything sexual, and if it is just a shopping trip or coffee, then I'll accept their invitation.

I don't get asked Why.

Oh, wait, that's not exactly true: there is a gay male clothing boutique owner who finds the topic fascinating and doesn't feel comfortable asking his other CD / TG / TS customers but knows he can talk to me. I enjoy spending time talking to him because I know he is truly interested, not judgmental.

When I eventually Go Public in the sense of letting my kin and Old Friends know, I expect a few questions, but not all that many. The ones I am more in touch with, I will probably notify before hand.

I guess no one, besides my wife and therapist, has ever really asked that question.

I dress as a woman because I enjoy it. It is fun and makes me happy. Nuff said.

Never been really asked but I'll be honest. That make me feel better and it's more confortable than my male clothes. My kids saw me with light makeup. I told them that I look better that way. Now it´s not a big deal, like me wearing nail polish.

Very good question, I really like the excuse about the party. But luckily it's the great time of year right now, halloween, can't ask for a better excuse than that lol

I think I have only been asked direct questions on three separate occasions:
Q: "Was it a bet?" A: "No."
Q: "I hope you are going to a review." A: "No, ma'am."
Q: "Are you going to a (I forget what she said, party or something)?" A: "No, I am just weird."

I have had two other women take significant interest and spend significant time talking to me about my crossdressing. If they asked why I do it, and I imagine they did, I forgot about it and don't remember what answer I gave.

Because the law says I can't be naked.

I think maybe two or three people have asked why I do it...well now it is because it is who I am but the answer used to be, "why not? Yeah it seems silly sometimes, why would I take myself out of the most spoiled over privileged group in the US...white middle aged males to do this? Must be inherent." Now let's talk about that shabby worn out dirty sweatshirt you have on...
