I've started switching my I.D. over where I can. With my name change not yet legal (around xmas time) my papers are a bit confusing.
Yesterday I went and bought a new car (yippee, new first brand new car in 17 years). You all know the amount of paper work involved. Of the I.D. needed, this is what I had. In brackets is the name or gender on it.
Visa card (Paula)
Drivers liscence (Paul, F)
Insurance (Paul, M)
Registration of trade in (Paula, F)

You can imagine the confusion, not to mention the dubious legality of some of it.
The dealer finally agreed the best way to deal with it was as Paul, M.
They basically washed their hands of it, and suggested I change it at the DMV at my leisure.
Now, since the new car is registered to the old me, I had to go to the business managers office to pay for it. They announce over the P.A. my male name, and I walk into his office the female me. He had to look at his computer screen a few times. Then he called me (hesitantly) Paul? I corrected him.
Everyone at Kia was very helpful, they just have to dot their i's and cross their t's,
and it was my sloppy I.D. that was the problem.
I must get my ducks in a row. I don't have any two pieces of I.D. the same combination of name and gender.

The last word. I got home, and called my insurance agent, who handles all my vehicles, my business, and my house, with the deets of the new car. She asked me what name, and gender. Paul M. Her response-'Oh crap, Paula, I just switched all your policies to Paula F'.
I can't win. At least I get a new car on Saturday.

This is why my plan is to apply for the name change, and once the judge grants it then get the name and gender all changed at that time. I will take time away from work as a vacation to complete as much as possible as quickly as possible.

I can understand the urge to get started right now and I am fighting that. I just cannot deal with the confusion of a DL with a male name and gender of F

Hence the wisdom legally changing your name before presenting full time. You can go by any name you wish, however for legal purposes you need to use your legal name.

I'm confused now too! But having been borne Kimberly, I've dealt with this for a lifetime!

Wait, who am I? :)

Yes, it can get rather confusing when you at that stage. Then you get old and can't remember squat anyhow.

Oh, how I love that perfect reasoning of "Just a Senior Moment!" I do like your well thought out plan for transition, i.e. doing it your way! Congratulations on the new car and the confusion. When you can laugh at your own mistakes it really means that you are doing more than OK contrary to the "plan, organize and control" crowds from "Do it my way fame".

PS: I just noticed that you changed your site name. I like Paula, dated two before. Though I was very used to Celeste too. I will give it a week and let my senior moments resolve any confusions I am having, because I will then not remember why I am so confused!

While surfing the Ontario governments web site one day about changing bits of I.D., I discovered how easy it was to get an F drivers licence. Jumping the gun a bit, I ran out and got one, mostly for the sake of having SOMETHING that said female other than my Sephora card. So I ended up with a male name, female DL. This sorta started it rolling, and is how I ended up with mis-matched I.D. Yes, to all who said I should have waited and done it all at once. If I transition again, I will certainly heed your advice. LOL.
When my name change becomes legal, I will do it again...properly. Thank goodness I live in Canada, where legal gender is pretty much what I say I am. For most things, all I need is a letter from my Dr.

To those in the process. Visa turned me down for a new card as Paula. I was a little pissed so I phoned them. The nice person on the phone suggested getting an ADDITIONAL card for Paula, and not using the original. Got one about ten days later.
