View Full Version : Crossdressing In Video Games

I have been wanting to ask this for a while - who here plays video games and automatically crossdress within their worlds? This guy. If the offer is there, I do it. I love the Saint Row franchise for example because it gives you the option of becoming a female character, complete with clothing choices. In WWE games, I automatically create a female character first, and before the gender restriction thing(i.e. males cannot hit females, so no wrestling for the WWE Championship as a lady), had won the championship with her many times.

While it obviously doesn't replace real-life crossdressing, it offers an outlet of release...for me, at least. So, any stories or examples?

My avatar in Rockband 3 is named Dana. She has pink hair in a pixie cut. I also have a female character in another game named Giabear. Have multiple char both male and female in the different tabletop rpgs I play.

When I was little I always played (and still do!) MMOs as female characters. It gave me the luxury of being able to be myself without having to go through the annoying process of making sure my makeup and stuff is in tact. I could just wake up log on and be Allison the calm and collected mage. Since I never beg for items or use my gender as an excuse for guys to buy me items in game I never had my gender questioned either.

In a way I like playing online games more than trying to dress in real life. I can just wake up naturally and not have to go through putting on all the makeup and stuff o.e Don't get me wrong it is fun but honestly if I passed naturally I would much rather not wear it all the time. I can just log in and no one gives it a second thought really. I guess I talk or type like a girl (i've been told this so many times :P), I don't try and date anyone, ask for items, I usually am the one helping people really :P and am just treated normally. Haha I've even made some very close friends who just know me as Allison and nothing more :) In a way it actually helps me realize who I am a lot easier and if not for video games I don't know if I would have ever had the courage to realize that I am this way ^^

My favorite game Phantasy Star Universe I had a character named Ayu the Master-techer(or just grand mage really :P) She was this short little Newman (elf) who shot meteors out of her wands >w< My friend and I were the go to girls when someone needed help hunting something :)
I always play either damage dealing mage or support mage. I have a new found love for healing magic in video games and keeping my party alive and buffed and the mobs status downed :)

Whenever I play videogames now I always play as a females when I can, simply because I know who I am now and feel more connected to a character who shares the same gender that I do :)

I do it too. Anything with a create-a-character tool, I'll spend way too much time making her just right.

Fable 3 is a great video game where at some point the character crossdresses as the other sex, whether you're a man or woman. It's my 2nd most played video game.

I don't automatically go with female characters. If they have different attributes than other characters and I prefer the other character's attributes then I won't pick one. For example, I would pick Ken over Chun Li in Street Fighter II because I prefer Ken's fighting style.

On the other hand, in one of my Guitar Hero games I hand-created an all-female band.

So it's rather situational for me.

Any game I really like I tend to beat the absolute hell out of, so I end up with people from both genders and doing every choice you can do. My girls are usually my favorites though. I had a pretty famous tank on WoW back a few years ago, a girl character named Studley. Seemed to fit pretty well lol.

Hah... but do you at least change it to "Queen me"? instead of King?? :)

I have played many MMOs. Ragnarok Online, Rose Online, Maestia, FF...er I ferget which number the MMO was... ,
Auto Assault (probably no one remembers...didn't last long), Guild Wars, Lord of the Rings Online, currently play Tera Online.
Probably missed one or 2. In all of them and in standalone RPGs like Skyrim, etc I've played the ladies. Probably only 5 chars have been male in gender choosable games. The rest female.
Just been sort of a "if I've got to stare at a char's backside all day, I'd rather it be female" thing.
And I like all the various outfitting some of these have.
I ofhand wonder if those that collect outfits and costumes ingame would have CD tendencies. Or at least be into cosplay.
Although most games tend to unfortunately not provide a good amount of storage to keep all the various outfits... or to
allow you to change to a different costume while keeping stats of a proper levelled match to the character.
Maestia was good for that...if you liked your starter outfit, you could use it in a costume slot while using proper gear in regular slot.
Gave you proper stats, but let you look how you want to look. Unfortunately, that game's closed down and not well made in other ways.
A few based on anime chars that I can "act out" a bit of roleplaying in game.
Never played PSU.. although remember Phantasy Star game on Dreamcast (have 2 of those).
Fable's I've "collected" but not really played much on.

I mostly play old games from the 80s and 90s, but whenever there is a choice of a party of characters, I always make one with my male self, one for my female self, and fill out the party with characters based on my old girlfriends.

It was XI c: But I didn't like that :P Being a tarutrau Dragoon was the most fun I had in it xP and ooh Phantasy Star c: There were offline variations for the dreamcast along with Phantasy Star Online Episodes I II, and IV (III was a terrible card game!) I played those too :) But on the xbox and PC since I don't have a dreamcast xP

It was the same story there with avatars :)

I do not exclusively, but primarily yes. I play a lot of MMOs and almost all of my main characters have been female. Final Fantasy 7 has a part where you have to crossdress in order to progress the story, and there are multiple levels to which you can take it. You have to have a dress and a wig at minimum, but you can get perfume, panties, makeup, 3 different levels of dress type, and 3 different levels of wig quality. This has an effect on the how the game proceeds. Also, it helps a down on his luck dressmaker feel like he has purpose again, as he goes into making dresses for men.

I only recently got into MMO's and play both male and female characters.
What I just realized is that all my male characters are classes that do massive damage and the females are all healers. Hmmm...
I guess it makes sense as I don't really want to put a lady in a position where she might break a nail. :)

What I find most amusing is that other players will actually hit on me when I play the female characters.
I know she's hot because I designed her that way but really, dude, she's an avatar...

:hugs:

Massively Multiplayer Online
Basically when you're online in the game and interacting with other live players in the game world.
Not just a standalone game where it's all just in-the-game ran characters or NPCs (non player characters). Most of the time termed along with RPG.. (Role Player Game). So you can have MMO RPGs (e.g. World of Warcraft,Lord of the Rings Online, too many other to count) or just plain RPGs (majority of Final Fantasys), Skyrim, and way too many others to count as well :). The plain RPGs are not outside connected.
MMOs typically will have thousands on a server playing at a time. well...unless it's a bad game :).
Then multiple servers are ran.. so some of the mega-games WoW,eg can have millions playing.

Really? We just got that free a little while back on xbox. I haven't played it yet but now I may have too :)

Yes, if the choice is given to take a female character, I usually do. I especially love the games that Krystalina mentioned, WWE, Saints Row, Fallout (you chose your gender at the beginning of the game,) and any other that has any creation or customization involved with it.

I normally play MMOs, world of warcraft being my mainly played, but I do play Tera, DC universe, rift, and all as female characters. I love to create and customize my character to how I feel inside. It is rare that I play a male character and it has to be a good reason to do so. All 11 of my level 90 characters in WoW are all female. It's who I am and at least in games I can show it.

i is a female avatar who says she doesn/t like being referred to as an avatar in a game. I tell them through the av of course, hey this is me...and also that anything in such a game is definitely rpg. Now i is on the having exhausted several hectic games- and am on the loose on the web, seeking something new, --so if you got one of those rpg with sexy female avs, lert me know about it....already have a list from those above.

At the end of Fable 2, there's a sex swap potion. I immediately started a new game with a male character just so I could experience turning him into a female.

Just picked up gaming again in the last few years. Haven't played to many that had gender choices. For Borderlands I played the Siren but for Borderlands 2 I switched it up and played the Commando. Those were more based on the attributes of the characters themselves though. My character in Skyrim is female. A dark elf named Diablo.

And I thought we were going to talk about cross-dressing in video games 'in universe' :heehee:

Cross-dressing obviously is one the most important things in Final Fantasy (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Crossdressing). Also, In Dragon's Dogma, there's a checkpoint somewhere on the map occupied by an all-female group of bandits. If you want to get past them peacefully and you play as a male character and/or any of your party members are men, you'll have to equip them a special dress so you won't get attacked. There's even an Achievement/Trophy (http://www.ps3trophies.org/game/dragons-dogma/trophy/47234-A-Queen-s-Regalia.html) for equipping the dress :D

Other than that, yes, if there's a choice I usually pick a female avatar. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, female characters have the much more useful 'Black Widow (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Widow)' perk, Jennifer Hale does a better Shepard in Mass Effect and Laura Bailey obviously is the best player voice in the Saints Row games, but I also absolutely suck at creating male characters.

Depends on if there are any sex attribute differences. Women usually get a point of sexy but a minus to strength. (In medieval RPGs) and also depends on if their outfits change :-)
Saints row has one of the best female customizers IMO, gtav my female looks like a dude except clothes, well and the fact she is bruised all the time from fighting. Ghosts, it makes no difference except the girl has a real shrill voice.

Awesome, awesome:)!

Thank you all for replying so far. I'm pretty much behind on MMO as I don't have the money to play the games yet, although I envy my best friend, who is always playing Guild Wars(of course, I never told him I'm a CD...he probably wonders why I create Neutron in every WWE game I've had so far).

I'm planning to get Fallout soon for my PS3, I've heard about the custom characterization...and I even considered getting Grand Theft Auto V simply for the Online portion, so I could create a female character(Actually, that's why I love the Saint Row series...Princess is a gangbanger leader, but she is the prettiest gang leader of all time:)).

Even when I play First person shooters, I imagine myself as a scantily-clad beauty, like Black(PS2) or Perfect Dark.

But I'm not well:).

Dont know if anyone is aware,
But the new COD title 'Ghosts' actually has a create a soldier 'feature' now (Dont know why because you only ever see your gun in game).
And you can even choose male or female, the names of the soldiers are locked, but theyre all pretty androgenous.

Yes! I did this in Grand Theft Auto 5. I was shopping in the one store, and some guys came in and started to rob the store, which meant I wasn't able to shop there anymore, so I shot them both (remember this is kind of the point of the game, so don't hate me for this.) and then I went to a different store to pick out some new heels!

Whenever there's a choice, I'm a girl. Like RPGs and prefer to be a girl. As others have said, spend an age getting the look just right. Dragons age 2 has a great shop where you can change your appearance when you want. Get a new hair do and make up regularly!

Well i for 1 put a whole new meaning to the cake is a lie. I been playing as a girl in games when ever i get the option. From nes (Barbie) to 360 (Bayonetta). When I was little i aways get my little to get the mom to by her girl like games and she just get me to play them for her. When we got older and my sister started to notice me not playing many male toons games and so did friends. When asked i just said i dont like lookig at man azz when i played games. I mean if anything when playing games we do spend a lot time just looking at the backside of toons when nothing is happening. In fact most my cding is just my games. In wow and starwars evey1 only knows me as a girl who is mute over vent. I can talk irl but if i did the dream would be over am not going to lie sometimes i do get special treats but i try to be as fair as i can. Am not gay or anything but i have had over 18 WOW BFs in the last 9 years. Many as of them were very sweet and some were just well... maybe i bit into the games to much. (thx u blizz for makeing same faction toons on same server) I even had some WOW GFs GG games well the smart 1s can tell some of the time. (Well in my experience)In fact some of them were F2m players that just cant play games w/out some1 hitting on them in raids when they speak on vent. I remember when 1 of my FGs made sex changed her toons to male and asked only to use pronouns like he. Idk if she will was a F2m trans irl, but she was very romantic.( she named a field in Shadow Moon valley after me). A few years later Blizz added cross server LFG then most of my server credit was gone by cata. People would always refer to me as she or her. but w/ cross server 1st thing most people think when seeing a fem toon its a dude (about 45% of the time) and as new people play no 1 knows any1 anymore ( w8 let me stop here i think and moveing off topic) Well what am trying to say am a Cyber CD b/c i cant do it all the time irl and i dont look right so this Shadow saying bye /kiss

... Well how much XP do i get for the post?

i always pick a female when its an option to create a player, My GTA 5 character is a girl although a rather ugly one ( the game developers could have made that better)
actually the other week my best friend asked me if i was a transgender, i almost told him the truth. my family and close girl friends know but no guy does.
read this makes me want to get Saints Row

I have played many games acrossed many platforms although only from around the PS2 up, which makes me realize how young I am ;).

I remember playing fallout 3 on a computer that I shared with my brother and he asked me why I always made female characters after that I made almost exclusively male characters(silly of me I know). I played WOW for awhile and I even got a my "online" friends to think I really was a girl xP. Those were great times.
I modded the Sims 3 to add the female clothes to the male wardrobe and that was the sole reason I played that for awhile.
Also in the many hours I have logged in the Saints Row series I usually start as a guy and then change into a girl or a guy who might as well be a girl :P. The Clothes options in that game are great and must be one of the reasons that I realized that I was into cding
I have never played it, but I have heard Fable 2 has a really in-def cross dressing element unfortunately it was never ported to the PC and I have recently considered purchasing a Xbox 360 just to play it(silly and expensive I know)

Oh, I've always been female characters in games. I remember playing Life when I was younger with my friend and his sister, and sometimes I'd put a pink person in my car and I'd marry a man. Usually, I'd be a man and marry a man. They got a kick out of this (I'm still friends with this friend today, and he is gay, out, and has a boyfriend).
I play Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat series from the 90s, and my favorite characters were always the female characters. I remember I used to play it on the arcade and be the female characters and beat guys. LOL.

Huh. I always play female game characters given the choice, but it has nothing to do with crossdressing. I don't see myself as the game character, but as a distant force or deity directing my chosen agent through her adventure. I guess. I don't think about it that much.

Also, in third person games I'd rather gaze upon a female instead of some dude's sweaty ass. ;-)

One of my Skyrim characters is a Khajiit. I have noticed no desire within myself to actually be a cat. I'm not a Furry.

The only recent exception was Mass Effect. I used the default "Johnny Spacehero" selection for initial games. Not sure why. I did use "femshep" for renegade playthroughs, though. :)

I am pretty hardcore gamer and I oddly "never" play a female character. With that said if there is any way to cross dress I am right on it. Saint's Row perfect example.

My fiance and I played World of Warcraft for a while. Our PvP team name was "We both look good in Pink" as I was a cross dressed Orc haha. Right now I am playing Animal Crossing and my little guy has some of the cutest outfits/wigs that can be found lol.

Given the choice, I ALWAYS play as female in games. I'm currently playing Torchlight 2, Path of Exile, and of course, Skyrim (over two years with the same avatar!). Thanks to great user-created add-ons for Skyrim, my female archer is STUNNING, if I do say so myself (and quite deadly, too...her stealth is so maxed out that she's all but invisible to baddies). I'd post a link to her pics, but I don't think it's allowed in this forum. I LOVE showing her off...

[/QUOTE]

I never had interest in the Sims games until I accidentally happened upon a site called Simmergirl five years ago that specialized in creating and modifying female clothing, hair, makeup, and accessories for use with male Sims. I met all my best online friends at that site, and eventually posted a "melodrama" about a bunch of teenaged "gurls" that worked out to be over 50 pages of text and dozens of screenshots. I got a lot of kudos for my hard work.

When the owner of that site lost interest, a few of us started "Transgender Sims" three years ago to continue our "work." I'm pretty much the most involved Admin at the site, to the point where we're trying to transfer the site's ownership to me. We still do clothing conversions, but there are freely available tools that allow any article of female clothing to be used on CD/TG "boys." It's so much fun for me to take the drabbest male and transform him into the ultra-goddess of her dreams, so much so that it once kept my desire to dress in check for over a year!

Yup, guilty as charged. I have pretty much always chosen the female character in games. I love it when there are a lot of customization options for the character. Not sure what it says about me that this is one of the few posts I reply to, but I've been trans-gaming since The Valkyrie was available in Gauntlet at the arcade. ;). Almost always playing some female healer since EQ days and I feel mildly pathetic to admit that I bought Saints Row 3 recently after realizing the clothing options were better than what I was finding in GTAO. I need an outlet somewhere I guess... at least in games, my clothes fit well.

Ha ha, yes, every game. Have so many female characters.
WoW, Tera, Skyrim. Loved the females in Kindoms of Amalur. Female commander Shepard in Mass Effect - awesome voice.

A bit embarrassed about it, so I accumulated a lot of male characters to "offset" them. In case my wife or a friend wondered about all the skimpy elves on the list. In truth, the femmes were my faves. If you look at the 'time played' counter, no contest, LOL!

Pet peeve: when a gaming company is unable to create an attractive female face to choose from. Fallout 3, I'm looking at you. Thank goodness for mods.

and I like to make sims on Sims 3.

Pretty much any game I can have a female character, ido. I especially prefer The Sims franchise, because of the level of control as far as wardrobe. I call it my crossdressing simulator...

As an admin/owner of a site that specializes in Transgender Sims, I'd like to point out that there are mods available that will allow you to convert almost any item of female Sims clothing for use with males, including an "accessory" that closes the "neck gap" after conversion. My Sims 3 mods folder is bursting at the seams with beautiful clothes and skyscraper heels...

I've been playing video games forever,I can't think of a time I didn't choose a female character. I remember one time spending a few hours making a diva on a WWE game. Of course there's the awesome moment in Final Fantasy VII were Cloud HAS to crossdress to move on in the story. To many examples to list in one post.

I have always always always played as the female character option. I have been asked why a few times by friends growing up and my response was always "I like too what's wrong with that. I personally don't want to look at the back of a guy for hours when I play a game."

I'll play as both, though I'll play as female characters more often these days.
Either way, I put a lot of effort into whatever characters I create in games where I can make a custom hero. Also, I thought of Final Fantasy 7 right off the bat when I saw this topic.

I only bought one game and that was the original American McGee's Alice.

I got it because I could do it alone and take my time. Work usually gets in
the way of stuff I'd like to have done, but I did like being Alice.

Haven't seen the newest version....yet!

This just reminds me of me and my SO. He always plays a female character. We play a lot of Skyrim and both write fanfiction about the Elder Scrolls series, so we're pretty invested in the world. He usually plays some pretty character...like a Nord. I can't help but play a Bosmer that is pretty terrifying looking...bear claws and tats all across the face. (Though I'm rolling with a Punch Cat right now). Anyway, with mods, my heinous looking Bosmer was able to marry Serana bawwwwww. Little did I know the "marry Serana mod" that I requested wasn't the only mod added. To have "sexy" armor, my SO added some mod that required him to have a nude female bodies mod. (I'm still skeptical, but I already know he's a perv lol). So, anyway, I'm killing my way through dungeons and grabbing loot...and, I find that when I take these girls' armor, they are very naked underneath. I mean, everything anatomically is showing. My SO explained the sexy armor mod and that he *had* to install a sexy female bodies mod with it for the armor to work. It was weird, but I got used to naked zombies following me.

Until my Serana glitched. Nooooooo! Something happened, and she would just get naked whenever she stopped following me. She'd just be naked as a jaybird, rolling around town. I was horrified. I never used the sexy armor mod... my Bosmer was a pretty frightening looking girl...and, she wears dragonscales armor (duh). So, the mod did me no favors. My SO just liked roaming the lands of Skyrim as a pretty Nord in sexy armor. I thought it was a good compromise since the mod I wanted allowed my character to marry the love of her life. (Serana love xxoo).

Let me just tell you that it nearly ruined my marriage. I could never look at Serana the same way again. I was quickly exchanging armor with her to get her covered. You can imagine all of the looks on the Whiterun guards. I had to kill all them in order to defend her honor. I was then thrown in jail...I got out to find her roaming around naked Again. After all I went through for her. I mean, she was just hanging around naked at home...It was actually nice after jail...but, it's just the principle of it all.

I told my SO, "I hope you're happy now...I hope your armor is really sexy and worth it... my wife is constantly naked, you nearly ruined my marriage, I killed innocent people/caused mayhem in the town that I love, and I got thrown in jail."

He said he didn't even like the armor. I called his character fat and felt better about my life.

Just think about how your CDing could impact your fantasy world. Think about my poor Serana, naked and confused...wondering around Skyrim. :(

We're still together...Serana and I...but, it definitely strained our marriage. She would complain about the weather and I would nearly snap...I used to find her constant complaining endearing. Instead, I was all like, "Well, if you hate the sun on your skin so much, WHY DON'T YOU WEAR SOME CLOTHES?!?"

Lol sorry about this post, but I just couldn't help myself. X-D It's a true story though. True story, brah.

There's a mod that allows you to change their outfits. You don't have to resign yourself to watching a pretty companion dressed only in utilitarian armor (or dressed in nothing, lol).

Google for "Change Spouse Outfits" by PrinceShroob.

Lol I fixed her finally. I like the regular armor...I mean, damn, I made us matching enchanted Dragonscale armor. What other armor would you want your spouse to wear if not the literal scales from a giant man-eating lizard? I don't understand. Blood, sweat, and level 100 smithing/enchanting went into that armor. Only the finest for Serana. Sure, she'd tear it off and roam around naked for a bit/refuse to equip it until I asked her to follow me again. But, we got over it. It's fine now. It's like it never happened.

What armor my SO wears is still up for questioning. Probably not as awesome as what I have. Does sexy armor stop a Legendary Dragon? Does the Dragon think you're hot when you crumble to the ground? Priorities, you milk drinkers. Go eat you sweet rolls in your tavern dresses, I'll be kicking ass and taking names while you're figuring out what to wear. :p Jk <3 #lol

On a different note, and to put myself on topic (still laughing over here... having a hard time typing), most any game that gave the choice my "main" was always* male. But I would always follow that up with a female character. Generally, I end up with a balance between male and female characters, sometimes more of one or the other if I think I like the look better with whatever class they are. Generally, though, my favorites were my "main" and all the female ones. :P But yes, if questioned, I've always used the "don't want to stare at a guy's backside all day" excuse, as sad as that may be.

*The biggest exception to this was the first time I played Star Wars Galaxies, back when the game was only a year or so old. I started off as a female character. Not long into it, I had some guy randomly propose to me in it.... I was so shocked by it, that the only thing I could think of doing was to delete her and roll a male character.... :(

Oh, the fond memories of that scene in Final Fantasy VII. I loved how Cloud to had make CHOICES as to the "disguise" he needed to wear: "Should it be something soft and shimmery?" (or words to that effect. I know the word "shimmery" was used).

My avatar in Torchlight 2 (best Diablo "clone" ever...and WAY more fun than "Diablo 3") is quite cute, but her face has been hidden behind a chainmail headpiece for half the game now because it steals hit points from baddies and adds them to hers. She's pretty hard to kill at this stage of the game...

I got GTA5 for xmas and was pretty excited to find out that there are crossdressing elements in the game. Too bad you can't try on stuff in the strip club dressing room ;) I also remember the famous FF7 disguise and how cool that was. What a great game. It would be tempting to replay the Mass Effect series with a female Shepherd but after that ending it has no replay value to me whatsoever...

I always play as a female... If any of my friends say anything online I just say that I'd rather look at a female character than a male!

In Second Life, my main avatar is a girl. I modeled her on me and me on her as we each "upgraded" our look. My profile in this online world has a place for your "1st Life" (ie. real life) photo and info. I simply dressed my avatar and posed her as near as I could to a real life pic of myself for my SL profile pic and used the real pic for my rl photo. I reveal no personal info on the profile and have had many guys tell me how sexy I am. *smiles innocently*... I have been called an attention ***** in the game. *shrugs* If the stiletto fits... ;)

For my avatars I tend to mix it up depending on how I want to play the Character. Although for St.'s Row 3 and 4 I usually play as a female. It has such a great Character creator. I have also noticed that its the only game I have seen that does not restrict female clothing to only female characters. You can quite literally cross-dress in the game. I sometimes like to use male voices for the female character (another neat feature of the game) it reminds me of those old sixties movies and shows where they had an actress play a man disguised as a woman who had their lines dubbed over by a male actor.
