Does anyone else have a crossdressing idol? Mine is cartoonist Vaughn Bode.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaughn_Bodē

I remember finding out he was a crossdresser and he even outed himself several times in his strips back in the 70's. It made such an amazingly positive influence on my life.

Mine would be Monika from the forum for her style and grace and Karren Hutton for her over the top humor and attitude.
Victoria Williams for her honesty, openness and class.
Jessica Who for pushing the boundaries and just being down right funny but conveying a message.
All 4 get 5 stars from me.

Eddie Izzard. He was really the first person I saw who was straight up honest about it all, and I find him incredibly funny as well.

Eddie Izzard, Dennis Rodman, and Ru Paul. All up front and unashamed of who they are. Of course, maybe sometimes it's easier if you're up at the top of your profession, I'll never know.

Knew about Berle, Flip, RuPaul (dance music connection). (forgot about Winters...) Later heard about Eddie Izzard. (Izzard I learned about more after I was starting to take CDing more seriously. Awesome comic...thanks Youtube :)

But oddly enough, as a DJ with early 1980's dance musics... even before Crossdressing it was Divine who I thought was incredible.

"Native Love (Step By Step)" was a mainstay in Chicagoland disco/house mixes in my high school days. (grew up in southwest MI but could get the radio from over there). So loved the music (still have several records-12" singles) and later found out more about the history (films like Pink Flamingos,Polyester,Hairspray) before I ever saw anything of them.

Back then for me, there was the common "didn't know for sure that was a guy in drag" (although the voice and the look on the records sure indicate so). Most I think knew Divine from the past history (acting, movies, etc from back to the 60's+70s even that stuff I never knew about at that time). But I didn't... and while I loved the music, I was amazed later at learning about the longevity and what all Divine accomplished.

So I'd have to say Divine's my "idol" although that was more full extravagant in-your-face drag.

I haven't seen Flip Wilson for years. Is he still around?

He passed 15 years ago to the day last Monday. Liver Cancer.
I miss his Geraldine and her " Devil Made Me Do It!" :)
Had forgotten that's where I heard that phrase before until looking Flip's info up.

Eddie Izzard. He was really the first person I saw who was straight up honest about it all, and I find him incredibly funny as well.

Agree, Eddie rules, super honest and open at a time where it wasn't as acceptable to be openly out. Love Ru Paul, although he is more a Drag Queen he is making dressing up classier and mainstreaming it to the general public.

I admire all of those people that have the guts to be themselves, most of all those who have the strength to go out in the real world.

How about an actual idol? Ardhnariswar (literally "half woman god") from the Hindu Pantheon would make a good crossdressing idol:

I would have thought Bugs Bunny would be on this board. :)

Christopher Morley and Michael Andrews
Saw Christopher first at 13 on tv in the movie "Freebie and the Bean"
Didn't know a boy could look like that in public when it wasn't Halloween.
Christopher and Michael were on a number of shows that I happened to catch.
Truly wonderful looking as women, dolled up to perfection.

Real life? Chiwetel Ejiofor in "Kinky Boots".

Anime? Ranma Saotome, Marron from "Sorcerer Hunters", and possibly thousands of "Pretty boys" that can and often have passed as girls.

Candy Darling. While there might have been many things in her lifestyle I wouldn't do, I was mesmerized the first time I saw her.
