View Full Version : Average Height and Weight for Men and Women

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the average American male is just under 5 foot 10 inches, weighing at 195 pounds and sporting a nearly 40 inch waist.

Stop laughing, GG’s. The CDC says you're 5-4, 166 pounds with a 37.5 inch waist.

So I’m the average height for a man, and the average weight for a woman! Where are you on the scale?

I am shrinking down to the women's average height (5-5 1/2 now based on my annual physical this week, down from a top height of 5-6 1/2), and way below average weight for a woman (139 per latest physical) with a so inch waist give or take a few fractions).

I wonder where I fit in with the average foot size for women, which used to be around 7 1/2 based on the size of the sample shoe out of the box on the store shelves or tables. I am 8 1/2 male and from 8 1/2 to 9 1/2 female depending on the shoe style and brand.

PS: Thanks Sarah, but you could have saved us some reading by not posting at all! LOL

I am 5'6" (still waiting for my growth spurt . . . seriously my Mom told me it would happen when I was 13 and moms never lie) and weigh 155 lbs (30 inch waist). So I guess I am below average.

Accorfing to the BMI charts I read I am on the low end of the spectrum for men and fitting in fairly comfortable in the ladies scale. I wont give out my weight because I always get yelled at when I do. But Im 5' 7"

5'10" (was 5'12" about 20 years ago), 182# (was 212# about 4 years ago, still need to lose 20#) with a 34" waist (was 38" about 4 years ago).

Based on those guidelines, I'm taller than the average man, taller than the average woman, weigh less than the average of either and have a smaller waist too.

I'm 5'8" tall and weigh 139 and have a 31" waist so by CDC standards I must be petite.

Just goes to show you how fat we are. In 1970, average woman was also 5'4", but only weighed 140, while the average male was 5'10" and weighed 170. That's also up from 1930, woman 5'2, 115 and men 5'7", 135. Or at least, that's what I remember reading back in the 70's. So in 80 years, we've gotten a little taller, but much fatter. Good nutrition maxes out our height; big macs max out our waistlines!
Me, I'm in the 99th percentile in height, as well as weight. Mensa says I'm also there in intelligence, but I usually feel stupid as a log, so I think as IQ's tests are made by people good at IQ tests, that's a lot of baloney. That's all I'll say.

I am 6' 1", 185 lbs. Down from 195 lbs earlier this year. Trying to lose a little more. I am between a 33" and 34" waist. So that makes me above average on height and below average on weight. Before I got married 34 years ago I weighed 145 lbs. I was a stick. Now I wish I could get back to 175.

I am envious of you shorter girls. Have never been comfortable w/my height, and of course it makes buying clothes harder and takes passing (especially with heels) off the table. I am 6'3, 205, 34 waist so broad shoulders. Would LOVE to have more feminine frame--but I have what I have and I am who I am. Nancy

Interesting sizings.
Mine is 5'9" height.. size 34 waist.
When I daily walk 3-4miles and keep away from Pepsi's,Mt.Dews, etc I'll sit at 165-167lbs and have an extra notch in the belt available.
(in fact some W34 shorts slide off if I didn't use the belt.)
Upper thighs, posterior, and gut all shift from just that.

Otherwise when more lazy or can't stay away from soda.. I'll get to ~172lbs (and the shorts stay up, loosely but it stays.

I need to keep up my exercising.. a bit too lazy lately.

(and lo, Thanksgiving Day appears... )

I'm not sure what my waist measurement is, but I need to buy some pants that are a bit more snug around the waist, my 32s have gotten loose on me now that I've been running 4-5 miles a day.

I guess I must be a martian! 5'8", 145 to 150 for now. After Thanksgiving, all bets are off!! I can't even find clothes my size. Sometimes I have to shop in the juniors section! I can't find a small in anything, and the smalls aren't even as "small" as they used to be. 36" chest with a 30" waist and a 32 - 33 inch inseam. Try finding jeans in that size! I do find them, but it seems that the waste always exceeds the inseam! What have we become?? :(

Candice,
You got it going girl! Good for you!

I am amazed by all the responses! We can't do anything about our height, but a lot of us are watching our waistlines...wondering if the road to obesity extends beyond our shores, since a lot of girls here are from the UK I did some research on the average man and woman there: according to the Office for National Statistics, the average man in England is 5ft 9in and weighs 13.16 stone (184 lbs) whereas the average woman in England weighs 11 stone (154 lbs) and is 5ft 3 in tall, so they're a bit fitter. By the way I neglected to mention my waist size: thanks to Spanx, I can be a 33

This thread is very upsetting to me! Now shrunk 2 1/2 inches to 5-7, and weight down to 153 (neither of my doing) I would fit into the
waist stats for GGs at 37 but the gals posting above are mostly where women should be to get those curves though some state they weigh a lot more --- and that has me troubled: how do you gals manage below 34 w/o corset and yet weighing more than what should be healthy?
Not including those at close, either way, to 6 feet as the weight of,say, 175 should permit a small waist. No fat left, well maybe a pinch, so how do I lose about 5 inches around the waist? Mad (at myself).

WOW! They let you ask this? And they wouldn't let me ask if you're left, or right handed. I wonder what's the difference? Said it had nothing to do with cross dressing. Hmmm. maybe they just don't like me.

In the medical field medication dosages are based upon a 150 lb adult...which I think is considered average. Really now? I am a bit bigger than that...5'9" and stuck at 180 lbs, trying to go down to at least 170. Womens size 10-12 skirts fit well, size 12 pants...depending on where the waist line is...

I wonder how the average CD weight compares with the average male. Do we care more about our figure? More important, are we more likely to do something about it?

I would guess that in general regular dressing MtF CD's probably below the average weight range for non-CDing males. We do have a lot of incentive to see the women's clothes that we wear fit and hang properly.

I'll second Allie's observation: it's kind of a self-reinforcing thing, where once you get your weight to the point where you can wear cute clothes, it's a real bummer when you let yourself go and they don't fit anymore, been there done that!
