The other day I was at a Target. I was doing some Christmas gift shopping for my wife. I found a really nice blouse for her. :) I went to the sales associate (SA) and asked a question about sizing since this brand was labeled differently. I was in the Womens section and it is directly in front of the dressing rooms. The sales associate answered my question politely. She then smiled a beautiful genuine smile and handed me a number for the dressing rooms. :) I believe that she thought the blouses were going to be for me. I was dressed as a male and she did not even bat an eye. :raisedeyebrow: She was a nice young lady in her mid 20's and deserves praise.

So did you take that number and go into the dressing room to try it on?

Sounds like the kind of SO that I'd always like to meet!

I don't think I've ever purchased female clothes at Target. I just never found anything I liked. I might have bought a skirt there yesterday but they didn't have my size (12).
We ended up at the mall where my wife picked out a skirt and blouse for me.

They are out there and some encourage you to try things on.
I have a lot of adventures at boutiques.

I wish all the sales associates were like that. We all just want to try on stuff and not get hassled for doing so.
Did you grab a bunch of clothes and go back to the same SA to let you into a fitting room? I think that's what I would've done.

Out of the hundred of SAs that I have encountered, I have only interacted with two that were kind of rude. Once while dressed as a guy I took a mix of clothes to the changing room and the lady said, "well, this obviously isn't for you," while pointing to a female shirt. I said "yes it is." She paused, looked at me, and said "okay," and opened a changing room for me. The second was once while dressed as a girl some lady was kind of rude when I went tot he changing area. I don't remember what she said exactly. She did allow me to try on my garments. And afterwards, I went and spoke to the manager. The manager was completely apologetic, informed me that they have had other concerns about that SA, and told me that she would be spoken to about her inappropriate behavior.
I think far too often people don't realize the reality of the situation. We have money, they are selling items. If they don't realize it is there job to make us want to spend our money in their establishment, then just go to someone who does realize what a retail store is there for. The best people in my experience are small business owners. They have always consistently provided me with the utmost in attention and service.
Really anybody that doesn't make you feel great for shopping there, regardless of how you are dressed or what you are buying, is an idiot.

Most retailers, especially the larger stores, are training their SAs to be non-discriminatory. If this SA had sneered at you and you walked out of the store, you lost the opportunity to buy something and the store lost a sale.
The SA does not have to accept you, just recognize you as a customer who bothered to walk in the door - which is the most difficult thing to accomplish in sales - getting the customer in the door.

That is so cool. Make me feel good hearing about you! Where you live, do you have Dress barn? They are all very friendly too.

Yesterday when I bought my pumps at Payless it was such a seamless purchase, she opens the box gives me the total and says thank you. Makes a girl feel good even though I was in guy mode.

I'm reminded of a time, probably 15 years ago now, I was looking for some back zipper pants and went into a store called NY&CO. Couldn't find what I was looking for but found some nice pull-on trousers that would work. I grabbed what I thought was my size and went up to the counter and asked the sales girl "I's like to see if these fit please?" - she looked at me and said "You want me to model those for you?" with a quizzical look. I laughed and replied "No, I would like to try them on please". She then smiled and said "Sure!" and led me to the changing rooms. She checked to make sure there was an open one and showed me in. She came back a couple of times to check on me, and offered to find a top that would match the trousers. I ended up buying the trousers, and knit top, and a matching jacket.

Ambigenderous I have had that happen a lot. Good sales people that do that.LOL.
I was at a consignment shop and found some cute items and walked back to the counter and told the SA I wanted to try them on and she said great follow me and when you get to the red skirt and white top let me see how it looks on you I love that outfit. I was in drab and she knew exactly what I was doing.
