So after a few month of my therapist finally gave me the ok to start with HRT. Yay!
Now I have to find an endocrinologist. I set up an appt with the Dr she referred me to, but his first open slot is 101 days away. Boo! Might as well be an eternity. Especially knowing that there's no guarantee he'll treat me

So I'm going to call around and see if I can find someone that can see me sooner.

My question is, when I call, should I mention or ask if the Dr. accepts Transgender patients? I don't want to be wasting my time and money with a Dr. that's just going to toss me out on my butt when I tell him what's up.

Have you discussed any of this with your primary care giver? He/she should be kept in the loop, and possibly could direct you to a good endo. Mine set up an appointment for me, got to see endo two weeks later. Same with a psychiatrist for that eval. Good luck, and congrats on the letter!

Thanks!

Probably a good idea..now what was the name of my GP again?..lol been a while
I've already got a psychiatrist that I already see every 6 months so I'm good on that end. Maybe she can help force the issue.

Grrrr - the waiting!!!

My primary care physician referred me to an endocrinologist, who prescribed me my estrogen. Since I was self medicating (which I do not recommend) the endocrinologist prescribed the estrogen and spironolactone without any letter from a psychiatrist or psychologist. It was only slightly over a month.

yes I would check and make sure that the endo will treat trans patients. Also you might want to ask about blood tests. I have mine done at a local lab for a lot less than what the hospital lab would cost. My last set of labs were only $100 with this method

Remember you don't have to see an endo. I see a primary care doctor that handles my hormones.

Like it isn't that hard to find an endocrinologist near Memphis http://www.vitals.com/specialists/endocrinologists/tennessee/memphis

Call them up and ask if they treat transgender M2F. Tell them you have your letter from your therapist in hand. If they do not treat transgender M2F, ask for a reccomendation for a doctor that does.
