I could use some fashion help. Quick

I got into his predicament a few weeks ago while shopping for my wife at Clearwater Creek.

I saw something that looked good. A new outfit: vest, sweater and the necklace.

As I was checking out, she asked about size, I said “ a bit smaller than me”. She said that I could try it on. I said no, but she said “go ahead, I am fine with it”. I still said no, the 14 will work.

As she was scanning everything, she commented she helped a number of guys at Dillard’s who bought women’s clothes for themselves. They were good towork with and one in particular looked very nice.” I could not believe she said that.

I let it go with “that is interesting”. As I leave the store, I see something Barb would like and it WAS Christmas; and frankly, I had day-dreamed about Barb getting clothes for Christmas.

I went out to my car and “why not!”, Ronda was pleasant but what would I say. I transferred 2 photos of Barb to my phone. I went back and ofund the sweater and coat that I thought would look great on me.

I caught her attention and said I think I wanted to look at something else. She said “14 right?” I said this would be for someone else. I showed her the phone “I think she is a 16, do you have it in 16” I said in a hushed voice “this is really for me” and showed her my phone. She looked carefully, twice and then looked at me and said these are very nice pictures, where were these taken? you look very pretty”. I said by the river a few months ago, “Very nice!”

"When you shared about your other men customers I thought why not for me today." She smiled a reassuringly. She said great, she said “We can do this” and was most encouraging, about 45 years old a bit heavy and seemingly very open.
Maybe a bit self-conscious since she brought up men dressing in women’s clothes. She got the coat, the sweater and said, ”I think we have a skirt over here. Would you be interested. What size?” , I said “14 or 16 hard to guess” “Well I only have a 12 any way and that will not work, maybe we have it in another store, do you want me to check” Sure I said.

So ordered it and Barb had her first Christmas gift. I did not put it under the tree. But I did put some tights in the stocking over the chimney, I had told my wife I was going to try those since it was cold.

When I got home, I tried it on. ‘rats’, The coat was a 14, too small. Maybe she was flustered, I know I was So I called Robin and told her of the problem and said, “let’s see if I can find a 16…. Sure can the same store in Branson that has the skirt, do you want to get that here too? When can you pick this up?”

“ Probably after new year’s but I think I would like to try in on.” “That is no problem at all I will happy to work with you and do what is most comfortable for your. I would dress as Barb and come in”

Today she called and has the order and I have decided I was going back tonight to get it and try it on there at the store and see if it works.

Now my dilemma, what to wear . I need to go as a Barb. It is 20 degrees here.

So what do I wear there? Jeans and boots with the new sweater or an old top just in case we go a different direction? A different skirt and top? Do I go with black hose or suntan? Boots or shoes? Do I go with a long skirt or knee length?

What is a gal to do? Help!!!
What should I do?

The SA sounds extremely accommodating. If you are comfortable with dressing in front of her, I'd say appear as your feminine side. The only other consideration is how you would feel encountering others who may not be so accommodating. As to the attire I suggest wearing something that would not be too difficult to change into and out of in the store. I do have a couple of wrap dresses that are not ones that slip over the head. Of course, if you wear a dress or skirt, wear a slip for modesty.

Jeans and boots work every time.
Too cold for skirts.

I like leggings, boots and a nice long jumper in winter, always a classy look

Next time tell the truth! It's for you! They will treat you much better if you don't start with a lie.

These sales girls have seen it before and some are totally cool with it. I took some boots back to Avenue for my wife this weekend. Of course I got to looking around and the sales girl picked up on it. She could read that I was looking for myself but I was pressed for time and could not really shop like I wanted to. I got her card and she was totally with it. I think the fact that I was out of town gave me more boldness. It shocked me that it was so easy.

Where is the clearwater creek in branson? At the landing? I never seem to get past the Vanity Fair outlet. I don't like the maidenform store but the Hanes Bali outlet is nice. the VF outlet is the best as far as I am concerned.

I also like Dillard's the SAs there are friendly too.

The jeans and sweater look great on you, and perfect for cold weather. :)

20F is about -7C which is still very decent for wearing skirts unless the wind is up. You would, however, not want to wear just a short skirt or just a thin skirt: you would want a long skirt with some wind-stop potential or you would want tights or leggings.

Such a great story! Thanks for sharing. I also will echo the cold is cold response. Best bet would be to dress to make yourself as comfortable as possible. Can't wait to hear the end of this story. :)

Great story. I hope everything fits well. Gives new meaning to the Beach Boys song, "Help Me Rhonda".

Now for the rest of the story.

I went back to Coldwater Creek 2 days after Christmas wearing the long black skirt and boots. And while it may have been cold; it was not too cold to deprive Barb an outing in a skirt. It produces its own adrenalin and that kept me warm enough.

Asked for Ronda (and yes the song: “ help help me Ronda”). She came out all smiles and said she had the clothes from the Branson Landing store. After telling me that I looked great, she escorted me to the changing room saying she would come back when I was ready. Well you have to take the wig off to try the sweater on and the new size 16 coat. So when she came back in where I said "I not quite ready". Too late, the skirt was up a little when she proceeded to pull my skirt up so she could get to the skirt lining down. I wish I had meant to do that, that was cool. Then she took some photos.

Then she said "how about a shirt that would go with it?" Well, I suppose, next thing I know we are walking out to the racks and picking lots of stuff to try on. Well the green stretch top might be ok but too revealing on someone who did not want to reveal much. Now the light weight purple shirt on the other hand, WOW! Now that opinion was shared by the store manager Terry who had just been introduced. Terry was unbelievably complimentary and said to call her if Ronda was not available. She also said “that suit looks better on you than any other woman I have seen here in the store.” Now how can I not like her and appreciate her fashion expertise. So what would a gal do in that spot? You would do what I did, I bought it all and added: “let’s try nice slacks so the outfit can be more versatile”. Barb now has her best Christmas present ever.

So $250 later, I was floating. They took more photos in the store. Any objective opinion who is not selling anything would be appreciated.

I then ask if there was a place a single gal would be safe to get a drink around here. They suggested a place a few doors down and since I now look good at 9 pm on a Friday night, maybe one of these gals would like join me for a glass of wine. They told me they were both tied up. Ok. I went alone.

Then the last chapter. I went to the place for a salad and wine. About 20 minutes later, I get a call from Terry, asked if I was missing a pair of earrings. Why just then I was putting my back up pair on. She would bring them over. Had I known, I would have left them at the store on purpose. Well 15 minutes later, enter Terry with a jewelry box in a little bag. Came right to my table between a lonely guy at one table and 2 younger gals at another and hugged me saying “ hi to Barb, wanted you to have this, they will look good on you." What fun!! A few pictures and she left, but it was great being affirmed in a public place.
Check please!

The waitress now thinks I am really a woman, maybe. I ask her to take some photos so I could prove to myself this was a memorable fun evening.
This whole thing was beyond anything I had hoped. I do love the outfit and now envision flying pretty to Florida later this month.
What do you think?
