...do you ever wonder what happened? who is that old woman looking back at you in the mirror? Just a couple years ago she was much more vibrant. Dressing and looking "age appropriate" is really your only option - which I do and try to appear younger than my 68yrs - it is still a thrill, but I think a trip back in a time machine would be sooo nice - maybe 40yrs or so, guess I'll settle for a trip to the mall and lunch. How about you? anyone noticing the older one staring back form the mirror?.........................Debra

Every time.I just attribute it to a bad mirror.

Karren and Alice have the right idea, but it's hard to avoid mirrors when you're getting ready in the morning, I'd settle for traveling back just 20 years ago. In my mid-40s, I was a lot slimmer, my face hadn't begun to sag yet, and my legs still looked pretty good. And yet, I still like the face that stares back at me from the mirror. She may be older, but she's okay in my book. :)

As I have "matured," I have learned to dress age appropriately. However, this does not mean one can not also be stylish. I have learned how to choose clothes that are figure flattering as opposed to figure flaunting. Although, I still like to flaunt occasionally. I also have noticed more acceptance in public.

Since I didn't come out til I was in my 70s, the mirror isn't a bad thing. I look in it and think "you ain't bad for an old broad".

I'm not sure. When I see pictures of myself in male mode, I think I look every bit of my age. My wife insists I'm too self critical. When I look in the mirror whilst en femme, i sometimes see a more flattering image, at least a slightly younger version. But I'm highly skeptical...and quite taking picture for fear of puncturing my illusions.

We're only as old as we feel Hon but none of US will age gracefully if you know what I mean, not being a spring chicken notwithstanding. ;):battingeyelashes::)

Older, maybe (I'll be 66 this year), but also wiser and more experienced, and infinitely more comfortable in my own skin - especially when it comes to going out in public en femme.

So what if I have a few more wrinkles? So do the GG's my age, and it just makes it easier to blend in.

Over the hill? Just try telling that to Barbara Walters, Joan Rivers, Dolly Parton, Raquel Welch, Bette Midler, Candace Bergen, and Betty White, just to name a few. Those ladies rock, and I intend to keep on rocking alongside them as long as I can...

When the mirror looks back and it is not to my liking, I simply remove the glasses. Voila!! everything looks much better. Too bad I can't do that for my friends, they just have to take this girl as she is.

Dressing your age??? Calendar age or perceived age? A lot of older girls still have a very shapely figure. What a shame to cover it up in a dress-tent. There will come a time when the miniskirts and short dresses no longer look good, but until then, if you can pull off the look, why the heck not??

Sorry, sensitive about her age older girl ;) Who still likes miniskirts.

Hugs, Robin :bunny:

You're two years older than me. I make a point of NOT looking in a mirror en femme. Or at least one of the bathroom mirrors. I still find acceptance in the full length mirror that reflects my image at 15-20 feet. And, there is no point of reference nearby to tell my manly size (six foot/190 lbs). I am comfortable with that image. I am attired attractively. Robin, if a person can pull off the look that's great. I see some very attractive women at the mall walking in front of me. The illusion is shattered when they turn around. And, you have to define what a shapely figure is. As a guy or a woman I have a nice shape. I do not wear clothes that may be described as a tent. I do not have a beer gut. My skin has not been ravished with smoking. Yep, I have lost a lot of my hair. A wig will do nicely. I see many many younger people, male and female, that do not give a damn about their health and physical appearance. Age has nothing to do with it. I think this subject has pretty much worn itself out.

At first I thought my mirror was dirty; I cleaned it and still looked the same.
Now I just stop counting birthdays, and it workers.

What George Burns said once, still sticks with me.
"You can't help but getting older, but you don't have to get old."

I see people now-a-days - men and women alike well into their senior years looking more active, as well as looking younger. Todays 80 year olds are yesteryears 60 year olds.
I may have some wrinkles, and my skin may not be as smooth. But I'll be darned if I don't try and look the best I can. If for nobody else but that old woman in the mirror!

Inside every older person is a younger one saying "What the heck?". I will not pretend to be aging gracefully but it has some advantages. I no longer worry about trying to as as a sexy young thing. As a lady of a certain age I don't attract attention or scrutiny I once would have. Passing is much easier just being another old lady. My body shape is much more acceptable as female as many older women have tummies that protrude as far as their boobs.
Some friends from my support group want me to start hormones and finish my life as a woman. I won't gain much female shape at 65 but being emotionally female might be interesting.
I find I see much more in the mirror now, a mature person who is free to be myself, whoever that is.

hugs rita

I am very happy to see any lady looking back from the mirror! Luckily do to the magic of a good wig and makeup, the woman that looks back at me is about 15 years younger than the man that occasionally occupies that mirror.

The passing of time has made me much more conscientious of the imperfections age brings (or exaggerates.) I can slow it with good skin care, but I know I can't stop it. If anything, I wish I knew in my 20's what I know of skin care in my 50's. Would have done some things differently.

As for dressing, cute shoes and panties are timeless :)

Partially I feel age creeping up on me. But what bothers me most is the years I have lost to staying locked in my secretive closet. I have wasted over 30 yrs of my life that I cant get back. My advice to the younger members, use every resource you have available to you and dont miss out on anything that you wish for.

I think the reason that I look in the mirror eight to ten times a day is just to see if that old women is still staring back at me! So far she has been able to keep up with my every move!

At 70, I see, depending on my mind set, either a rather plain older man, or an attractive woman who just happens to be on Social Security. I am now looking for some patching plaster to cover some of the road map on my face.

I've seen a lot of you girls on the net since it started. I wish I had started makeup and stopped getting married way back when. Now I have the un-accepting wife and an old face that just fights makeup that I've just recently delved into. Try doing the Cover Girl thing to these old wrinkled peepers. But, that's OK. I'm glad society in general is more tolerant.

I actually destroyed a picture about 2 weeks ago. Maybe I should of scanned it and posted here but I didn't think of that till after I had ripped it up. Both daughters were standing there as well as one of the grand kids so I didn't want them to see it and ask who that aunt was. The family resemblance would have been to great to try and explain especially since the oldest daughter looks just like me from when I was living full time...which is when this pic was from. Not sure how it survived the fire but there it was in a loose paper frame from the company Christmas party in 84. At that point I had been living full time for just over 3 years, off hormones for just over a year, and with the hair and dresses my wife and I were wearing there was no mistaking there were two women in the photo.

I did look quite longingly at it for about 30 seconds before the kids came out the door....

I am 67 and dress as if I was at least 10 years younger. I wish I was about 22 now and in good shape so could dress that age.
I am sure I could pass better if I dress up and did my makeup as my age but I do not want to dress that way.

I think the years have been kind to me and with the help of makeup my wife says I still look about 45.
Since Jack Benny took 39 I'll stick with being 45 from now on no matter what that mirror says.

I was very cute when I was young… and thin. Didn't know anything about makeup or outfits back then, so it would be exciting to go back with the knowlegde I have now. Or how about if I were the same but just born in 1993 instead of 1953? The Beatles? who's that?

being 39 again for the 21st time, i've stopped looking in the mirror as they seem to crack and break everytime i do...
starting to regret the fact that i remember the beatles on ed sullivan, where i was when kennedy was shot, the landing on the moon,
and actually watched mantle and ford play for the yanks. was so excited with the invention of the 8 track player, microwave,
color tv, and vcr...but the best invention ever was the remote. :)

Leslie I think cding makes you feel younger, on a good day It take 10 years off you, it obviously works for you. I didn't start skiing till I was 55 I was the oldest in the group but certainly not the worst skier, you come alive in the mountains. Think old not me Teresa has some living to do!

I'm with a couple of others on this one. Looking in the mirror as me is a thrill every time. It's him looking in the mirror that deflates me. Gets older looking every day. If he didn't have to shave, he probably would never look into the mirror. Ah, and since she didn't start taking this seriously til about 15 years ago, I often wonder how she would have looked back then as the dressing was hit and miss, with very little make-up and usually an ugly looking mustache.

Now I have....an old face that just fights makeup that I've just recently delved into. Try doing the Cover Girl thing to these old wrinkled peepers.

As an older girl with lots of facial sun exposure, filling in the crevasses is a challenge. I recently learned of face primers that bridge some of them providing a smoother canvas on which to place your foundation and color. While there are some expensive MAC products, the Monistat Powder Gel works for me and is quite reasonable in cost.

Just some ideas on getting our faces up to the same standards as the rest of our physical selves.

Will be 71 in the next couple of months. And am in good physical shape.

Since I do have a young looking face, I tend to look much younger when dressed as a woman.

If not, then bald with a piece of gray fuzz which makes me look much older.

I don't think I am old yet but thanks to cross dressing I am eating healthier, at the gym 5 days a week and learning yoga for flexibility. Cross dressing has given me the drive to be the best looking lady I can be. About that makeup stuff though, I have improved to just resembling Alice Cooper.

I will be 65 in four months. I am already on the Social Security and my other pension. When I get on the Medicare, my wife is going to retire and we are going to take our Airstream and travel for as long as we want.

I like dressing androgynously and of course, underdressing, but wigs, forms, heels, etc, aren't in my playbook. but I just can't believe that I look that old.

Having said that, on Tuesday I went to grandson's basketball game with my wife and the ticket seller said I get in free, why I asked, because I was over 65.

I asked my wife if I really looked that old. And then I was reminded when I get my hair cut and I look at all the hair on the drape and its almost all grey...is that really my hair?

Sigh, elastic waist jeans, smock tops, full brief panties, sensible shoes..... remember that website called http://menwholooklikeoldlesbians.blogspot.com/

Wow, I'd just love to look like an older lesbian! Is that website meant to be a putdown? Because, mostly, that's a bunch of really attractive older guys. A few look a bit haggard but that looks like bad lighting or crappy make-up or both. Anyway isn't the great thing about being over sixty that you can so much more easily blur genders because both men and women look, well, old? I was quite beautiful when I was young but I never smiled so I was kind of scary. People would abruptly look away rather than meet my eyes. Now I smile all the time and I'm even developing those happy wrinkles around my eyes. What's more, people smile at me! I just love being an old queer something or other!

I first donned a dress at age 59 as Charley's Aunt at a costume party.

I wore a 115" hoop skirt, wig, bonnet, string purse, lace fan and satin lacey pantellettes with makup.

So I really don't know what I would have looked like years ago.

Here is a picture of me at age 70. Wonder what I would have looked like at age 20?

At that time I was a slim and trim 128 pounder with a slim waist!

And could cross my legs knee over knee!!!!

HOWEVER THE PLUS PART IS THAT I LOOK MUCH YOUNGER DRESSED AS A WOMAN THAN AS A MAN!

Think Youthful!

True. I don't look the same as when I was in my thirties, but the fact remains that I look much younger as a woman than a man.

And as stated, it beats the alternative.

I will be 71 in 60 days.
