Today I went in for my annual physical at the VA. Back in February I had gone in to Long Beach VA to have records moved. They were going to set me up with a therapist/psychiatrist then but had told me it could take a couple of months.
Today I went to my appointment at the Whittier clinic and mentioned it to my general practitioner. She had the front desk set me up with an appointment at the end of the month to see one of the psychiatrists here in Whittier about she referred to as a gender change.
But for some reason, I feel nervous now. The appointment is for three weeks from today.

Relax, it isn't like they are going to push a button and "poof" you are going to be a woman. Allow them help you help yourself finding out who you really are or what you really need. Maybe your not a woman and it is all just a big fantasy. Either way you will know for sure and be able to get on with your life.

Just be honest, it's that easy and the only way they will be able to help you help yourself.

I dont have any experience with the va specifically so I dont know much about that. I can tell you though I have been to see a gender therapist a couple times now. Its not that bad really.

Should I go as Bob or as Rebecca?

I did my first visit with my new therapist in male mode, it seemed the easiest way to break the ice and start talking.

Go the way you feel most comfortable, vetobob.

I came up with multiple reasons to go as Sue or Steve. I settled on Sue as I figured the therapist wouldn't care and if anything, I should go as I am most comfortable. Either way is right in my opinion.

right now I am seeing my therapist in male mode. I plan on changing that real soon. We have already talked about that also. I was told whenever I felt comfortable doing so I could.
