It is done. I came into the judges chambers and he asked 3 questions, said "done" and handed me a paper to take downstairs and get my certified copies. All told I wasn't there at the courthouse a half hour.

I also went to the Social Security office and changed my name and gender there. Tomorrow it is the DMV and a new drivers license.

It is official my name is Angela Campbell.

That's right Angela, I forgot. I haven't found a way to get out of court in less than a half hour from where I come from(wink). Regardless, when the DMV is done, you are official, at least with something that resembles you and looks more like a happy person with a whole life ahead of her.

Congrats.

Remember us small people who are trapped in our closets....although if you ask many, I am sure that is where they enjoy being the most whilst they dress up and look at all their shoes.

We are so vane! now pass me my pumps, the 4" stilettos over to the left.. if you want humor, just watch me take 6 steps in them by 7 steps I can guarantee my ankle will give out or my legs will start wobbling...

Congratulations Angela! Hey hon, can you believe this is all really happening? A year ago, you thought there was NO WAY you'd ever see this day. I'm so happy for you!

It's simple, the judge took one look at you and asked himself "How could this be anyone other than Angela Campbell?".

So when do we get to  :Party2: :rave:?

So day two today! I did the court thing and Social Security yesterday so I can go to get my drivers license today.

I looked up on the DMV website and I am amazed at all the info I have to bring. W2 (to prove my SS number), utility bill (to prove my address), car insurance info, birth cert, court order, letter from Dr, voter registration card, car title and registration, and I guess a fair amount of patience.

After that it is off to the bank to sort them out, then some stuff to do with American Express (yah the money stuff is pretty urgent) and if I am lucky lunch.

So I am sitting here staring at my new drivers license. Nice pic on it and a big F....

It took them almost a half hour to figure it all out. I checked on line at their website for the info and documents I would need and I had all of them. They went through all of it with a fine toothed comb 4 times. Then had a supervisor check off on it.

But at the end they took my picture, showed it to me and asked if I like it or want to take it again, asked for money....then I walked out with a DL, vehicle registration and a voter card.

Then to the bank who changed my info and made me a new card in about 10 minutes.

Only a few million more to go!

There is all the fun of changing everything but once you walk out of court with the notorized name change docs, it is a done deal so the rest is just piddly junk. It is also the biggest form of validation a TS can experience.
Even a few years from now you will still enjoy it when you sign or tell someone your new name.

One thing though - do not share your old name with anyone who does not need to know it.
It will take old acquaintances a while to get used to the new name, count on constantly reminding them.

Congratulations Ms Angela Campbell. This seems like one of those times when getting an F on an exam is the goal.

Do you mind if I ask what three questions the judge asked? (if it's not rude to pry)

Yes I really do not want someone slipping up and calling me Ellen.

Do you mind if I ask what three questions the judge asked? (if it's not rude to pry)

1. Are you currently in bankruptcy proceedings?
2 Are you attempting to avoid debt?
3 Why do you want a name change?

my answers

1 No
2 no
3 uhhhhh

Thanks Angela for your reply to my query. Just starting on my journey and hoping to learn as much as possible from all you brave ladies who've gone ahead.

I'm so happy for you, girl. That is the second item on my list of priorities. Would you PM me the cost of the paperwork to see your crossdresser in that black moo-moo.

Wasn't much. $30 for the fingerprinting, and around $450 for the court costs, then $12 for copies of the court order. Will likely be higher in WPB than in Hillsboro county. You must do so in the county you live in.

LOL and he was wearing a suit, no robe. Did it in his chamber not in open court. From the time it was filed it took me 2 weeks to get a hearing.

Allison, all it requires in the state of Florida is a letter from a Doctor stating you have had a surgical procedure or are under a doctors care and being treated for a gender change. Then just apply through the court system.

The best place to start is by seeing a therapist.

Strange..... I keep hearing someone by the name of Angela Campbell being called over the PA system. I wish she would answer them already. ;)

Congratulations on your name change Angela !
