Dressing as a woman in another culture

In all the time I have been in forum's, I have never come across a CD that dresses as a woman of another culture...


Thinking that we did not know these other cultures early on when we were modeling and developing but you must admit, women from around the world are uniquely dressed, are stunningly beautiful and should be emulated..

I really like oriental chong-sams - high-collared, sometimes silk, long dresses beautifully embroidered and with a slit skirt right up to your artificial hip joint (for some of us..:)) and worn with nicely high-heels, of course.

But that's just me.

I have a cheong-sam, several Mennonite bib-front dresses with bonnets, and a 1960s white bellbottom trousers with cropped bolero top, like sonny bono or cher. And I would love to have a burka.

This is a very good thread!... I tend to dress and try to dress to suit my immediate environment/culture..... but I have also 'dressed' when abroad...OK maybe judt in the hotel room LOL! But shopping abroad it has occurred to me to buy more local dress.... and I have... but Karren is right to a certain extent.... most places dress much the same? Except extreme Muslim places.... I don't own a Burka... yet

I occasionally dress in the garb from Drablandia, especially when meeting with opposite-of-left feathered appendage clients. Although I do embellish a bit with painted nails, rings , earrings and light makeup .

I have to cross a few local culture boundaries 'round here.... I have a special outfit for when I go to wallyworld.... usually flats, jeans, sweatshirt and mess my hair up.. Then I've got a mall outfit, quiet heels, black skirt, dark top... just to blend in..

I know this isn't what you're asking about, but think about it. Aren't these other places cultures in there own right?....

When I was overseas in an Arabic country I went to one of their malls and saw a HUGE "Women's Secrets" (their version of Victoria Secrets) store, and it was packed with burqa-wearing women. Later I stopped by a mosque and talked to a lady that ran their cultural center. When I asked her about the burqa, she said "I love it. I don't have to worry about what to wear, I just throw on some clothes and a burqa and it covers it up. I've walked out with very little on, but the black burqa covers it all!"

I was rather surprised at her honesty!

So, if you go with the burqa, wear something sexy underneath!

But had thought it'd be great to get a belly dance outfit and take classes...
(Be a good way to get rid of a bit hanging around the belly too...)

Hi Everyone

I do both another culture but also another time. I am a member of a historic reenactment group and I do a 13th century Russian Lady Sarafan and underdress and fur trimed cap and silver turtle broches .
It is fun to do clothing from the past it gives an appreciation of the modern.

Because of these revelations, I am going to buy a saree and possibly a burka. Can we see pictures of you dressed in these clothes. I may be doing the same. Thank you all for posting on this subject. I love how many of you have already done this or wish to do this. Makes me feel not so alone in this thought.



I went to a women's shop in India that was all saree's and high end accessories. I wanted one so bad. On an aside, whilst there, I still regret not getting one particular photo of a large group of women standing and waiting for a ride. It was spectacular. The vibrant shades of material, darker skin and the magnificent beauty of women and their cultures dress clashed and contrasted so wonderfully against the devastated background. It was one of the most stunning sights of my life and I will forever not forgive my camera for missing the shot.(wink).

I did take belly dance lessons with about 10 girls. I went strictly en male. I do have harem pants and a belly dancing skirt, but I was too chicken to wear them.

I also have and have worn Chinese Cheong Sum dresses (in the house only).

I've seriously looked at Geisha costumes and Saris.
